  • UNFORTUNATELY, we have no more time. This leaves us with two eliminees.

First of all, @SteampunkDragon. We are sorry, but for whatever reasons, you had to leave the contest, and a skip in point gain left you behind. Say one last prayer to the eldritch gods, finish slurping up the spaghetti that is actually intestines, and HEAD HOME!

Then, second, sadly, this is where we have to leave @ThatOneCat behind, which is a huge loss. Your cards were extremely whimsical and joyful, but unfortunately, you didn't get enough bonus lore points to stay competitive. I would tell you to HEAD HOME, but in the lore you did write you mentioned the astrals don't have one, so good luck on finding it.

Both of you made great factions, and if you ever decide to compete again, you will be welcomed with open arms.
  • That would lead us to the PENULTIMATE CHALLENGE!

It is customary that every odd-numbered season ends in a free-for-all brawl, and every even numbered season ends in a duel, so we will have two more trials, one to cut the third place, and one to distinguish the first from the second.

    @AxNoodle @Lujikul @SammySammyson
So far, all of you kept peace with each other, focusing your conquests outward, but it is time for you to CLASH!

For NEXT TUESDAY, make us a card that shows you attacking BOTH YOUR RIVALS!
  • @HeroKP Would you be so kind as to summarize what the Eldrazi are up to right now? i.e. Did AxNoodle's Titan Destruction clear Eldrazi from their region? Did Gnash succeed in controlling a chunk of the brood? Etc., etc. Thanks!
  • @SammySammyson The idea was to claim the Eldrazi in my region while leaving others leaderless.
  • @AxNoodle I wasn't suggesting that's what you did, I was just clarifying what I meant is all
  • I'm satisfied that I came seventh.

@HeroKP Will you tell us during this challenge or after it? Is there a MÆPP?
  • @AxNoodle During the challenge! Just waiting on the free time
  • Tied for 4th! Sweet!
  • 48 HOURS!
  • @HeroKP So what did happen? I am not sure what to do depending on the current situation.
  • @AxNoodle Make a card for attacking both of the other players.
  • @KorandAngels I know, but the details of attack depend on the current situation.
  • Well no-body else has posted, so you wouldn't have to respond to them. I can't really help.
  • Writing right now, my entry'll be ready by the due.
  • For the first time in what felt like ages, Marigold finally had some peace and quiet. Sort of, anyways. There was still the usual nonsense (business) Duke was dragging her through: Constant studies, his terribly boring meetings, and personal practice were still a constant factor in marigold's life, but they've become less hectic, and more part of routine than a hindrance. Reading the Tome of Stars had become part of her routine, too, though 'reading' was putting it generously. It'd be more accurate to say she'd been decoding it. Each Grand Stargazer before her had written in it in their own archaic shorthand, each unique to the writer. Serise's entry was the largest, spanning over several hundred pages. In contrast, Chulane's was the smallest, just several paragraphs on a page.

Figuring out who wrote what wasn't hard; the handwriting itself was often telling of the author's personality, as though they'd put a piece of themselves on the page. Each author also often wrote on different things. The writing of the first was mostly philosophical in nature, while the second's was almost textbook in style, describing spells and the state of the empire at the time in almost daily entries. Serise's was filled with diagrams of the night sky, and descriptions on how to best wield it. And Chulane's had yet to be deciphered. Marigold had found the others easier to translate, why was this small section so difficult? Whatever he had to say must've certainly been something of vital importance-

Her train of thought was interrupted by a knock at the door. Was it that time already? "Come in!" Marigold shouts out as she shuts the Tome of Stars. Duke and the others file in, taking seats. The fact the meeting had come already was surprising. Had she really been that distracted? She sits up straight to maintain her composure. Something wasn't right, though. The air at this meeting didn't feel as stiff or, frankly, boring as the others. As always, though, Duke was the first to speak.

"It pleases me to see our leader is in good health. Unfortunately, the time spent on pleasantries today is time wasted. Formalities will need to fall by the wayside for this session." The others murmur in agreement. "I'm gonna put it simply: This world is nearly ours. Only two remain: the Poets of Saklinan and the Army of Gnash. Both are strong and worthy foes to have made it this far. We must err on the side of caution."

    "But why?"

Marigold's question causes every head to turn in her direction, as everyone looks at the small girl at the large desk. "Why should we be careful? If we are nearing the end, then it's the best time to redouble our efforts. Everyone's growing tired and weary, and that's when they're at their most vulnerable. It worked during the Seige of Ursai Ridge."

Her statement left Duke clearly shook. After an uncomfortable pause, he cleared his throat. "That may be so, but we cannot throw caution to the wind. Besides they have been conquering, just as we have. This is not a battle of attrition, not by a long shot. Our foes have plentiful resources."

"Hmph." Marigold crosses her arms and leans back in her seat in a slouch. Even now, with her effectively being the Stargazer's Leader and the leaps and bounds of progress she'd been making, she was still treated like a child. She'd show all these boring adults that she was just as capable as them. Perhaps more capable, even! That'd earn some respect, finally. Thoughts like these bounced around in her head for the remainder of the meeting, drowning out what anyone else said. Not that any of them could care what she had to say, anyways.

That night, she was sitting cross legged on top of her cabin on the Red Giant with the night sky glimmering overhead. In her lap was the Tome of Stars, open to a page written by the fourth owner, someone who was seemingly obsessed with spells of quite literally world-shattering strength. The opposite page was covered in diagrams and warnings regarding a spell. Marigold takes a deep breath, and shuts her eyes.

If she was found doing this now, she'd certainly be in quite a bit of trouble with the others. She begins to chant steadily and quietly. A minute passes, then five minutes, then ten, filled with continuous chanting. When she finally finishes, she's left feeling exhausted and out of breath as monstrous streaks of lighting race through the skies to their destinations in the lands of the other surviving nations. Unsteady, she stands up, carrying the book under one arm as she makes her way back inside to sleep for the rest of the night.

  • @SammySammyson @AxNoodle now have the eldrazi in their army! (This is only to widen creative freedom. You don't get any more net power than @Lujikul because of the effort it takes to control them)

Submission being worked on. It will likely be up around 5 hours from now, though perhaps earlier if I'm lucky.
  • We communed a time ago with the great skies of Turmoil.
We built up a relationship with the gold dragons of old,
And now that friendship shall help greatly as we work and toil.

We call upon the great sky beasts.
    We call upon defence.
We call upon their majestic power.
    We call upon Turmoil.

  • *vibrates* am just finding art for my entry now uwu

From a moon, planes away, the whispers of Emrakul reach Gnash's ears. Perhaps her power lust and control over the Eldrazi made her a target. Perhaps Emrakul has started to loosen her self-imprisonment, and found Gnash a mind easy to tap into (a mind that is constantly open to others). Perhaps the titan is already free and plans to ravage Turmoil and reign over its brood. While Gnash is unsure—and barely knowledgeable of Emrakul's existence to begin with—of the specifics, she does know that she will not become a warped, writhing abomination.

As her body twists and contorts, Gnash resists the mental bombardment, pushing the Eldrazi out as much as she can. Shivers courses through her body as she slowly warps, tentacles breaking their way out her flesh in a painlessly painful manner. Emrakul's whispers develop into conversation—her will mixing with that of Gnash. Conversation morphs into screams—her will overpowering that of Gnash. Screams claw out of Gnash's mind as her entire body writhes, rejecting the unnatural Becoming. She weeps, and is soon met with...silence. Her own will has beat that of the titan. Gnash refuses to look at what she has become, but she knows one thing:

Her mind is her own. Her will is her own. Her ascension is her own. Silence in her mind has brought her power, peace, and Becoming. Now, rather than battle with the murmurs of her drones and the newfound Eldrazi, she is purely harmonious with them.

Gnash appears to glow with...white. Well, to herself anyway. Now she is a god. More powerful than the fallen gods of Amonkhet, the weak things. More powerful than Nicol Bolas, dare she think that. More powerful than Emrakul, who overpowers the multiverse herself. Of course, this is merely her ego speaking, but it remains true in a small part.

(A lore card that is linked to its Cardsmith equivalent. Gnash's ascension has caused her to dip into Esper due to WB's ability to deal with, and especially exile, any permanent. Hence the white glow!)

    image

With her newfound power, Gnash's confidence rises to a level where she decides to swing almost blindly at her enemies. Her writhing being, now able to command her drone army once more, sends them alongside Eldrazi into the Stargazer Society and the Poets of Saklinia with one purpose:

    To reduce them to dust.

@AxNoodle On another note, if I may, I personally suggest you format Tales as such:

    image

I love the card type, and I think bringing them to life in an artifact block or set would be magnificent. Of course, untap shenanigans could make them very fun, but may also require slightly toned down power levels as opposed to Sagas due to that.
  • The time is now. The time has arrived. And the Hero of the Capes strikes down one more empire. Each of these eliminations is more sorrowful than the last, but this one is especially personal.
@SammySammyson... I remember the first time I saw your faction and you announced your standing for this season. That second I knew you would come far. I just didn't know how far. Gnash's journey has been amazing to watch, but, as unfortunate as that is, this is where it ends. You will be missed. Churn out some carrier drones, feed up the skywhales, and HEAD HOME!

    @AxNoodle and @Lujikul
Do I really need to say what comes now? Till next monday, BATTLE TO THE DEATH!
