Theorycrafting Challenge: Gwen, Daughter of the Harvest (Deck w/ Custom CMDR - Cancelled!)

Hello fellow cardsmiths, myself am building a proxy/custom deck featuring one of my custom commanders as the leader of it. The question is, "How shall myself design the niche aspects of this deck?"

So myself need inspiration from the community and thought we'd do a breakdown of this commander and its quirkiness so you can recommend things for the deck or post your own deck list that myself can be inspired from.

Now with that said, myself am going to discuss the commander first, after showing you the card...

So what is the goal of this deck?

It is to play as many noncreature spells as we can. Of varying mana cost to tutor up creatures that we can mash together for massive value. This means that our deck must use a variety of mana costs to attain the right puzzle pieces.

Now onto describing the mechanics...

The non-custom one originally seen in unstable, listed below.

Combine two cards (Its power is equal to their total power, its toughness is equal to their total toughness, and it has their names, mana costs, types, text boxes, etc.)

Here is where myself made a change. Now creatures can be combined monstrously for additional benefits.

Combine monstrously two creatures. (To combine monstrously two creatures, combine them, then if it's tapped, untap it. For as long as they are combined, it has trample and “This creature can block an additional creature each combat. You may have it lose trample until end of combat. For as long as it doesn’t have trample, it deals its combat damage to each creature blocking or blocked by it separately.")

Basically this combined creature, is a behemoth. So it can attack in two ways and engage with many creatures.

So now that we discussed the custom mechanics, it is on to the first ability's new wording format.

To put it in the simplest way possible, it is an activated ability that can't be countered/affected and has no activation cost.

--------------------------------

Here is where you come in. The deck is a toolbox theme that has too many niche interactions for myself to handle alone. As such, myself need your recommendations a ton.

So here are my three requests from you, the community...
1) Post comments thinking of individual or group of cards that could help the deck.
2) Post a decklist from your thoughts on the custom commander card.
3) Leave feedback on anything discussed in the comments.

Note: Feel free to put any card in the deck that is legal in commander and that color identity. We won't judge if you use demonic tutor! :)

Lastly, there will be a to be decided prize for the deck list portion and a premium subscription being given for one of the other comments posted.

Happy smithing, and tell myself if this is a good or bad idea for a challenge!

  • I thought Gwen was a transforming card.

Now myself will head off to sleep. Then check in on the feedback in the morning.

If you dislike this challenge or have any critical opinions, please comment! All feedback is helpful in my pursuits to making a fun commander deck w/ a custom CMDR.
  • @KorandAngels
It was in one of the iterations, but it seemed too complex for one card, given feedback. Myself agree to those statements and was experimenting with what myself could get away with on a mythic rare.

Keep in mind, myself am still new to cardsmithing compared to the pros! ;)
  • @murkletins We’re in the same boat then :) My cards aren’t ever as good as cards from the older smiths.

I feel like the combine monstrously two creatures is a little confusing and over complicated.

Due to feedback, myself will close this challenge if it doesn't garner interest by tomorrow. The main reason for this possibly happening is that the commander might be not favored by the community. The later is myself don't want to offer premium if this isn't going to get entries.

As such, myself will attempt to continue this challenge concept with a different commander pairing. As well as, offer the premium prizes only if there are a minimum amount of entries for the respective part of the challenge.

Myself will still likely be building this deck for myself, but will instead make it among a smaller group of people unless feedback varies or entries are made.
  • I would like to help, but I have no idea what to do with this.
(The wooden-looking frame looks good on the card though)

May you please close this thread, when you have free time?
