Merchants of Alara
I want to make a new Card-Set. I already have about 70 cards and now I ran out of ideas...
The Merchants of Alara are clever, charming and rich. They live in every part of the continent, but they are most common in Bant. Most of them are humans and dwarfs. They sail on ships (sometimes they are flying) and live in rich towns. Most of them pray to the goddess "Inelis, the Goddess of Wealth". She has plenty other of names, but every merchant knows her (...even the Demon Merchants).
The idea behind the merchants, was to give an opportunity to interact with your opponent in a new way. For example, you can give them abilities like this one:
"Choose any number of permanents you control. Target player does the same with permanents he or she controls. Then you and that player each may gain control of all permanents the other has chosen."
—> "Any number" can also be 0. So in fact, this ability gives you the possibility to exchange permanents with another player or even to give away permanents you control.
Then I thought of the "obtain"- mechanic:
Obtain silver.
(Put a colorless artifact token named Silver onto the battlefield. It has "Sacrifice this artifact: Add (1) to your mana pool.")
Obtain gold.
(Put a colorless artifact token named Gold onto the battlefield. It has "Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.")
And last but not least, the "merchant" - mechanic:
Merchant - Any player may activate the abilities of this card. If an opponent does, (do something nice, like "obtain gold" etc.).
You can invent any ability you want. I already have some cards in my library, so you can get some inspiration there.
I will look at any post, and "favorite" each card, which I like, and give comment.
Please watch for the balancing.
