I had an idea... for a 1,000 card set

That was the easy part. Here is the hard part:

All ten stories have been claimed by Cardsmiths.

At the moment, @Ranshi has reported that he doesn't have time to realize his vision for the Grixis vs. Selesnya island. He has a strong premise and has made a very few cards. They are all good cards in my opinion (but I am not the final arbiter).

***WITH THE HELP OF EVERYONE HERE*** we need to decide how much editorial control to give to Ranshi and how much to give to the eventual executor of the cards.

I do not know how we will dispose of the Grixis/Selesnya story situation to be honest. We all need to decide what to do.

I fear that hurt feelings are near on the horizon.

We DO want you to help, @Dom_Rocks but I can't think of an easy answer. I'm listening everyone. Can you help?

    Current Assignments

@Scott_Anderson No, I looked on my profile and it didn't tell me.

Was it you? I figure it might be, but I just want to make sure :D
  • Could I help?

I’m fairly unhappy with my blue cards on the whole. The longer I look, the less I like and the more the color looks like half of it is filler.

There are not a ton of memorable cards and the commons are underwhelming. On the other hand there are some flavor all-stars in the group.

So I’m going to carefully review each slot and then present those cards I am happy with.

EDIT: I just knocked out 5 of my 12 monoblue cards. I’ll keep thinking. I do have an idea for one of them.
  • @tookie1 right now we have one more Cardsmith than we have assignments and we’re trying to get that sorted out.

There may be a Cardsmith who is looking to collaborate on their assignment because each one is fairly expansive and therefore a lot of work.

What we do need is more folks to seriously critique cards as they come up. “Killing your children” is hard for a creator!

Ummm... @Scott_Anderson? I've only made 3 cards because I don't have much time to do so.
(And I don't think the cards are too good)
    I'll try to make more.

Cool. Hold on just a second...

    Ah, here's my card!

    Can this fit in?

    (Thanks again!)
  • @WarriorCatInAhat Maybe Dom_Rocks can help? Or Tookie1?
  • @Dom_Rocks, how long does he keep control of the artifact?
  • @Dom_Rocks, the syntax on that is fairly off...
  • @Scott_Anderson, until the game ends.

@Ranshi, what does that mean? (I don't mean to sound rude, I just don't know)
  • @WarriorCatInAhat, if you need help, I think I know a little about making them to help.
  • @Dom_Rocks, I would've provided a corrected wording, but I was out of break time.

    Dom, Theiving Survivor | {3}{u}{r}
Legendary Creature - Human Rogue | Rare
    First strike
{3}{u/r}{u/r}, {t}: Gain control of target artifact.
Whenever Dom, Theiving Survivor attacks and isn't blocked, destroy target nonland permanent.
    3/2

I provided some balance and title changes, as well as fixing syntax. If you want to know why things were changed, if they were, let me know.
  • So he can grab an artifact for four each turn and keep them for the rest of the game?
  • Yeah... at the time it felt a little more balanced...

    Sorry about that.
  • @Dom_Rocks don’t worry about it! Make the cards you want and we will all critique each other. If you look a couple of pages ago Potato13 savaged me here. It was the right thing to do and it made my collection better.
  • Hey everyone,

Tell us a little about your story and maybe show us some main characters! Let’s see what folks are brewing!
  • Well, I was thinking mine was going to be something along the lines of: Jund Dragons vs. Azorius horses

-basically, the horses have crossed over to a jungle realm and are in war.

-There are random tribes and mercenaries that are neutral. They have either sided with the dragons, whom they prefer, or rebelled alongside the horses, or stayed completely neutral.

    Something like that...

    One character I have:

  • Dragons and horses!!

Horses are prey animals. They wouldn’t go to war on their own. Are they special in some way?
  • edited January 2020
Yea, they are supposed to be magical horses.

Strong in numbers. Kind of like that.

I still need to make their legendary creature.
  • Hey guys is everyone familiar with the mechanical differences between hybrid mana cards and multicolored cards?

I don’t want to tell you something you already know but it’s good to have a refresher once in a while.

Can someone tell us what’s up with one and the other and what’s the difference?
  • I’m making my islands based off of spirits and elementals.

@Scott_Anderson I’m pretty sure most people know this, but hybrid cards must use effects that fall into both colors’ part of the color pie.
  • Here’s my island set. I have not finished yet. I’m just posting it so people can see:

  • Great, @Shadow123 ! I’ll look and let you know on the card pages tomorrow.
  • @Shadow123

Excellent constellation of spells there. Very pretty top to bottom and some nice innovation. I left comments on some of the card threads.

Dream's End feels white to me.

Storm Elemental is the name of an existing card.

I'm a big fan of the rest. Good job.
  • @Scott_Anderson Thanks a lot! I read all of your comments. I’ll edit when I get more time!
  • I've made another error, but this one is a happy error: We each have FOUR Mythic slots.

So the total number of cards you should prepare is 85, but you get two additional Mythics.
  • Nice, sounds good.
  • Yay! More mythics!
