I had an idea... for a 1,000 card set

  • Oh. My other idea is possibly floating islands, so that we look less indecisive.
  • What about an actual sort of metaphorical representation of the forums -- Cardsmiths are a race/kingdom/academy/other group of mages that are responsible for creating planes and the magic within them. They live in a chaotic, ever-warping plane composed of floating islands, on each of which there are different trials for training Cardsmiths who prepare to take their place. So basically each island is a contest thread.

    Thoughts?
  • I like that.
  • So do I. The only problem is that there isn't another kingdom/academy, so ours being one is stretched.
  • I was thinking the plane could be like a weird Alara/Zendikar/Shandalar thing. Like a mecca of wild energy that draws in various planeswalkers that have managed to coexist.
  • That, or it's not a plane at all, but lots of small artificial planes that are connected by portals.
  • If it's the island thing there is a set symbol that was made to represent floating islands!
  • it could be islands floating in the aether.

-Deleted- long unneeded text was here :D
  • Okay, I like where this is going, but there's still some stuff to discuss --

For one, are "cardsmiths" planeswalkers? I like the idea, but it seems like this would lead to a War of the Spark type set, which was a bit divisive. I also think we should delve deep into what a cardsmith is/does in the multiverse.

what happened in war of the sparks? I'm a little out of touch with magic.

Also, I guess the rest of the members can decide what cardsmiths are going to represent.

But, one idea I just got is that cardsmiths are just legendary creatures; their may be some exceptions though for diversity. There is a mtg god, which is an embodiment of the MTG cardsmith site itself, basically a large, powerful entity. This god created a large void in which random, small planes (the small planes part can be discussed and delved-deeper into by other members) spawn out of. It is infinite. Then, maybe some other characters that help the god kind-of like the angels and archangels (these characters can be made by other people contributing to this set). They will also be strange entities, like the god, but weaker and different. We only need a couple; they will be the planeswalkers. I guess the legendary creature you make will be the leader of your plane.

Also, can we put in some of our older cards to the set, or do they have to be brand new?

Also, I think people should have freedom over the theme of their plane. I think this will allow for more creativity and diversity. It can be as straight-forward or as wacky as they want as long as the cards are balanced and fair. From knights and wizards to Alien Bear Frogs and three-legged Centaurs, etc. But, it should have a creative element that represent them. What I mean by this is that someone could make a complete mario set, but it wouldn't be as interesting if they just used the same characters already existing. They would have to do some kind of spin off like a new kind of mario like "Dragon Mario" or "Yoshisaurus Rex", or something like that? Not everything has to be a new form of an already existing idea, but at least contain something new if you are going to do something like this . References to other things are fine as well. You guys get me?

Sorry for the long text, it might not be the most fun to read :D
  • I just thought of something else too...

We can have seasonal/festival planes. What I mean by this is that everyone can submit a card or two on a holiday that is happening currently. It can be any holiday and it can have any amount of cards, even if its just 3 or something from only one person. They will be on their own separate plane or you can apply them to your plane if you want. They will not only bulk up the set with quality filler to reach 1000, it can apply a greater sense of community and will be something players/card makers will relate to. Since people live in different parts of the world, any holiday from their culture or country is welcome even if they are the only ones who are making cards on it.

Also the seasons can be used in the same way. We will have 4 extra planes; one for each season. Since (like I said) other people might live in other places, the seasons may be different; this means that seasonal cards can be made any time of the year I guess.

Either way, make the cards good and have fun with them!

When organizing the cards, there will be somewhere who will put together the list at the end; probably someone with gold membership (this part is obvious). But, everyone must make a set on their profile with the planes that include their cards. This will make it easier to put the cards together at the end, since we are hoping there to be a lot. So if you contributed to the, let's say "Summer" plane and your personal plane, you will need to have two sets that include each card in its proper plane. Obviously it is not required, but I think it should be recommended to everyone if they don't already do it.

This way instead of the person organizing having to scroll through the thread's pages for cards, they will only have to go on the cardsmith's profile. There might be some loose cards here and there, but I think this might be more efficient.
  • some lore I thought of while I was going to sleep last night:

In the beginning there was a God (MTGCardsmith's embodiment) floating in a void. He was sleeping in eternal rest until one day he opened his eyes. This sent out waves upon waves of aether out (you guys mentioned the planes were going to be islands floating in the aether, which I think is a good idea). There was so much and it was overpowering; the light was too bright and it hurt the god's eyes. He couldn't tolerate it, but he knew that this aether had a mysterious power; he sensed it. So to try and control the aether , he ripped of parts of his body/limbs to sent them floating into the distance; these limbs were supposed to absorb the overpowering energy. Eventually as the light dimmed and the god could finally see, he saw 5 entities standing before him. They had mutated and came back each with a different element: the five colors of mana. (There was a white/blue/black/red/green one, which will each have their names when we make them.) Each one had the power to send mana of their kind into the aether, thus being able to create an infinite amount of floating-island-planes . The god saw them having fun creating planes and tried to send mana of his own; turns out, he colorless. But, there was still a problem. Within seconds of creating planes, they would turn unstable and explode. The god, curious and eager to be able to create islands like the others, added his colorless mana to one of the newly created planes. To their surprise, it didn't explode and thus created the first stable plane. The colorless mana neutralized the colored mana, which stabilized the energy of the plane.

But, they weren't the only ones alive. There were other being out in the aether with intentions unknown. They had different kinds of mana like:snow mana, phyrexian mana, energy, etc. Some of them would help create islands by involving their own mana into them. But, who knows what other malignant being were created delving out in the farther parts of the aether...

Something like this. The storyline can be edited if someone has a better idea.
  • I'm down with the story.
  • edited December 2019
    Me too.
Which colour was the first stable plane?
I guess there would be one really big island for each colour, one that's all colours and one that's colourless. Apart from that, there's islands of some of the following, but not all: Original colourless, snow, purple, phyrexian mana, machine or void ( @Tomigon ), split multi-coloured mana.
  • edited December 2019
    True.
My original intentions were that the god created many different planes with mixtures of colors and you people (cardsmiths) make the plane you want. Basically, every player has their own plane to make lore, characters, creatures, guilds, ect how ever they want.

But...We can have a plane for every color like you said which contains of cards people make; I think this could be good.Everyone would be able to make cards for these planes as long as are only that specific color. They would the first planes of their color in the story. Then, we can have the personal, holiday, and seasonal planes as well. People can make as many planes as they want. A giant multiverse :D

Also, have you read my previous posts above? I know its a lot of text, but I think some of it is useful information to take in. What do you think of it?
  • Plane is actually a card type, so we might be able to use that mechanic.
  • edited December 2019
Yea, that could be cool. Everyone makes a plane card for their plane, as well as the color, seasonal, and holiday planes. I like it.

How about for the god/ creator we just use their mana name as their name to save us time. For the god it will be like "MTG Cardsmith", but for the white creator just "White", blue is "blue", snow mana is,"Snow", etc. It is so basic, it's original and, it explains that the colors of mana are named after the gods or vice versa (the gods are named after the colors). I feel like making new names for them can get confusing (Unless you memorize the characters) and we can instead use the names we make for our legendary creatures.

    Thoughts anyone?

alright cool. We can definitely make some later. I guess first let's start with the leader of our plane or the 5 colored planes? I guess we can be the leaders of our planes. For example, my will be "Leaf Juggernaut" and will be green/white, etc. Or you can make your own character. I'm not sure but we need a starting point. We can add anything we want to our plane, including more leaders/legendary creatures.

Our personal planes won't be included into any hybrid mana plains, if we do them. In other words, the colors on our planes don't matter and won't replace anything.
  • @Leaf_Juggernaut, could you summarize what your idea for the geography and building process is?

(Whether I know the artist or not is underneath the image, not on top.)
You know, this "Make your own Demiplane" thing would make a great contest.
  • edited December 2019
@Ranshi A group of island-planes floating in the aether that are built by the creators to have a set amount of colors (your island can have any amount of colors you want. You most likely will want all 5 colors. The original-color islands will be color specific.). They will be next to or near each other like a galaxy. They just spawn and life forms (you will decide what the plane lore/characters will be) will emerge. They can go to war, trade, be isolated, do whatever. As more people join the set, islands/planes will spawn as they create their land. In the end, we will have a bunch of functioning islands grouped near each other in the aether. We need to build them one by one so it's not overwhelming.

It's a big summary, but it's out of habit at this point :D

@korandangels I have a question. I'm a bit confused. I've seen them but never used them.

There can only be one world enchantment on the battlefield, but this doesn't affect the rest of the enchantments right?
