  • Just had an idea, what if Rat from WOTS starred as the main character, as she is gateless and wouldn't be influenced by the guilds, and this would allow us to use Teyo as one of our planeswalkers.

  • @LordTachanka123 You suggested an anti-enchantment theme, but that feels wrong. Enchantments are by no means anti-tech, and while artifacts will obviously take precedence over enchantments in a future-tech set, enchantments can easily be used to show a huge number of tech-related things that no other card type can.

  • @LordTachanka123 If your goal is to actually create or community-create a proper set, even if it's just a small one, then I'd recommend that you do some proper planning of things like mechanics, themes and flavor before you start making cards, rather than making cards, then doing that planning and realising that none of the card ideas work.

    Actually, that fits into a more general question. Are you trying to create this as a proper set, or is it just going to be a pile-of-cards-with-a-sort-of-theme kind of thing?

  • To memoryhead's question, I have no idea, but I know that I'm not nearly as talented as Rezatta's creator(who I have no idea how to spell), but I do want some resemblance to a real set.
    And yes DM, you can join. But BTW, Lavinia may or may not be dead.

    But on mechanics, while HeroKP probably knows more than me, here are some ideas:

    Some sort of hacking

    Catacombs:
    Maybe a firewall mechanic(?)

    Boroselesnyia:
    Reporting(?) This one I'm most unsure of, but I want it to fit with their whole thing.


  • @LordTachanka123 So does that mean that you should currently be trying to do a planning stage or not? Don't worry if you aren't the best set-maker in the world, that's why working with the rest of the community to get other people's contributions and viewpoints exists.
  • I am going to try to do some planning, but since it won't be top tier, you guys can feel free to point out all 99 of my flaws, and then help me fix them.
  • And by the way, I'm going to basically base the planning off of Rezatta's. 
  • Oh, And MemoryHead, HeroKP has posted most of the current story already, and unless something about it is awfully wrong, we're probably going to be using that.

    Definitely Elementals due to Izzet meddling and Simic mutations.
  • @LordTachanka123 Do you think that we'd be able to represent AI with preexisting creature types like Construct? It tends to be worth steering away from making new creature types if existing ones will do the job.

    @The-DM Not sure how I feel about Werewolf. They're basically exclusive to Innistrad (the only ones that aren't are extremely old and therefore not really worth mentioning) and the expectation for them to be transforming (all of the not-incredibly-old ones do) is their overriding identity. Unless we intend to do transforming then we certainly shouldn't use them, and because of the whole Innistrad-only thing then we should probably avoid them even if we are.

  • For Gruul, I think we want enchantments theme. We wanted them to interact with the spiritual world, but without blue, and I think enchantments are the best way to do that.

    We could even bring back curses!

    Artifacts, definitely, but this is a new and changed Gruul, in a time where things get harder to smash, so you might as well get some help and smash harder. They don't understand the spirit world, neither do they seek to (notable absence of blue), they just go where it leaks soul essence and push a metaphorical bucket under it, then do the metaphorical ice bucket challenge and get superpowers the limits of which they have no idea about.

    This does cause to abandon some of their inner chaos, which is why they are based White-Green this time rather than the traditional Gruul colours.
