Varu, Land of Dinosaurs

  • Am I the only one thinking that Dual-Burst is actually busted? It's a better Rampage ability, and +4/+4 until end of combat is ludicrous imho
  • I just think Dual-Burst is a strange mechanic, doesn't fit from a flavorful stand point, and would never get anywhere @Scaccogaming

  • How about +2/+2 instead?
  • It's still too similar to Rampage (if the card is blocked by 2+ creatures it gains +1/+1)
  • I suggest scrapping Dual-Burst totally. @Scaccogaming has proven that it won't play to fun and doesn't fit very thematically.
  • If you want a temporary boost mechanic, what about:
Whenever this creature attacks, you may discard a card. If you do, this creature gets +N/+N until end of turn.
  • Yea! Alright, I'll make changes as soon as I can.
  • @SNAPcreator7
Alright, I was bored and have now fully read over this, so I'm going to give my thoughts in one big dump:

    - I like Hatch a lot. It's very interesting and reminds me of persist. However, if you use -1/-1 counters in this set, I would strongly advise against using +1/+1 counters.
-Dual Burst and Survival don't work the way you have them right now. They need to be ability words (Mechanics italicized followed by a dash, e.g. Landfall) rather thank keyword like you have them.
    - "Dual Burst" is a really weird name for a mechanic in a dinosaur world. I'd suggest calling the mechanic Amok.
    - Survival as a word doesn't fit the mechanic, and I honestly don't think it needs its own ditinct keyword/ability word.
    - Stampede is a super interesting keyword, however I think it should only be tied to creatures. Here's how I suggest you word it:
Spampede [Cost] (Whenever this creature attacks, you may pay [cost] any number of times. Create that many token copies of this creature. The tokens enter the battlefield tapped and attacking. Exile them at the beginning of the next end step.)
I'll throw out the suggestion that you make this plane Muraganda, just because Varu might not end up distinct enough from it
    - Vivien should 100% show up in this set. This is a story written for her character all the way.
    - I know you're just in the early concepting phase, but you'll probably want to start getting a proper Set Skeleton in mind once you get all the mechanics ironed out.
  • Ok! How does this look?

Amok - Whenever this creature attacks, if it is blocked by two or more creatures, it gets +2/+2 and haste until end of turn.

Carnivore - When a creature you control dies, create a food token.

    Your stampede idea is good.

    Vivien, Explorer of the Wilds {1}{g}{g}

    |+1|: Dinosaurs you control get +1/+0 until end of turn.

    |-3|: Create a 3/3 Green Dinosaur creature token with Trample.

    |-6|: Destroy all dinosaur creatures.

  • Amok is a redundant ability. Haste makes a creature able to attack right before entering the battlefield. If this card is already able to attack, gaining haste is...pointless, you get me? You could just use Rampage.

from the official wiki: Rampage N (Whenever this creature becomes blocked, it gets +N/+N until end of turn for each creature blocking it beyond the first.)

Second, I like Survival more, it gives you more space to play with.
  • If you want a blocking mechanic @SNAPcreator7, I'm gonna have to go with @Scaccogaming on this one.
  • Amok should just be
Amok--Whenever CARDNAME becomes blocked by two or more creatures, [effect].
