Website Bugs

Recently I have had to delete some cards because they were receiving comments made years ago about a completely different card made by someone else. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

  • @Deathtouch115 Yep, that's a thing, and I guess it counts as a bug. It's been around for a long while, and it'll probably be around for a while more.

It happens because the nature of card storage on the site is such that cards with the same name will end up sharing comments with other cards throughout history that have had the same name. It tends to be kind of rare, since there are a lot of names for people to think of and use and a lot of cards will never end up with any comments even if they do share names.

There isn't a way around it, in case you're wondering, but it doesn't have any negative effects on your cards or anything. My recommendations are either "Hope like heck that your card names don't end up overlapping" or "Just live with it. It isn't doing you any harm". Or both, of course. Deleting cards doesn't seem like it'd have any real purpose (unless you want to change card names, since even premium card editing doesn't actually get around it), but you do you, I guess.

    Hope this helps.
  • It happens to me... I was confused at first too, but just decided to ignore it or edit the cards so that they didn't have the same name.  Oh, by the way, it needs to have the same number as the card too... for instance "Vigilant Warleader-3" in the adress bar.
  • It’s a result of the shortcut where the site will sometimes use existent urls from deleted cards. This results in miscommunication between the site and disqus because as far as the program for disqus can see, it’s the same page.
  • This issue will likely be fixed in an unnamed update in the future. That's what we've gotten the impression of.
  • I think the problem lies in disqus itself, not mtgcardsmith. I still hope it could be fixed, but it’s been an issue for a long time. I’m not sure that is going to be their main priority.
  • Ha, I remember making a card and someone said something in the comments, and I was so confused at what they meant. Anyways, I've just dealt with it.
(Or you can make super obscure names like Froghopper Goliath of Asterville)
  • Bah... IT'S TIME TRAVEL!!!
shadow123 is partially correct, it is a Disqus thing, but it relates to how our card names function. As a card gets removed from the site - not deleted, removed - it's name becomes available again, and MTGCS starts filling in the blank spots when new cards are made with the same name as the removed card. We discovered it a while back and took great advantage of it...

There is a site overhaul going on that may end up correcting that, but I can't guarantee anything. If it's irritating, just make the card again and delete the version with comments. You don't always get awesome old comments, but every once in a while, you get a gem!
  • Also of note -  The comment by "Community Coordinator Eva" is the most upvoted comment I've ever seen on Cardsmith!

One of my first cards I published 2019, right? Well only minutes after I posted the card, I received a comment that was apparently posted 5 years ago that said my card was awful, and the wording was awful. I was very confused, and I responded to the comment, but obviously there was no response lol
