Technically, this doesn't include any colors at all, but the design is supposed to allow him to Rank up into different forms, which are all different color combos. Just to clarify, if you cast a red-green spell on him, you may rank him up into a creature that has at least red, or at least green in its color identity (I probably worded it incorrectly, but I hope you can see my intention). I know that you don't get a sideboard in commander, but I think that at least a few playgroups would be fine with it.
Hey @Jadefire. that's a super sweet design you've got going on there! I might be willing to bend the rules slightly if you can do your best to make it in MTGCS. You might be able to fit the static abilities in with the -3 ability.
@Fallen_Lord_Vulganos unfortunately, flash is a keyword ability. You could technically call it a mechanic, but it doesn't count for the sake of the challenge
Also, @Everyone I am removing the requirement for MTGCS links ONLY for Challenge #23, as MTGCS has a terrible planeswalker creator. Loving the entries so far from everyone, keep it up!
Just to be clear, how do you define a mechanic as different from a keyword ability? If it's the existence of an established one- or two-word name representing a larger set of rules text, does Foretell in the above example fall into that category?
@Jadefire good point, thanks for pointing that out. There are some mechanics that do use keyword abilities. So yes, Foretell is a mechanic. Flash on the other hand is just "You may play this card any time you could cast an instant," which isn't really a mechanic like Foretell or Landfall in the same sense. It's like scry. scry is technically a keyword action but you get what I mean
I think I see what you mean. A keyword is something that describes a characteristic or property of a card while a mechanic may have costs and choices involved and isn't "in effect" at all times. Thanks for the clarification.
@Usaername Is there any chance that you could clarify a little more on that? According to the blanket concept of mechanic, flash is a mechanic, as is literally any term used to simplify an effect, or anything like landfall that groups similar effects under one metaphorical banner without actually having a game effect itself.
It's possible that what you mean is along the lines of "mechanic that isn't an evergreen / base mechanic", in which case it might be good to specify.
You can find a bit more of a spiel on my inspiration behind the mechanic at the card page, but here's the extended rules for Faction:
-Faction cards start play and remain in the command zone, similar to conspiracies. -You may only have one Faction-type card in your deck. -All creature subtypes in this card's listed subtypes are your Faction members. For Gorefang Clan, "whenever you cast a faction spell" means "whenever you cast an Orc, Goblin, Ogre, or Troll spell". -All creature spells in your deck must include one of the listed faction subtypes, though they do not have to have only the listed subtypes. You may have Goblin Shamans and Orc Beserkers in your deck, but not a Dwarf Beserker. They make for fine eating though. -A faction card's abilities take effect and can be activated while in the command zone, similar to an emblem or conspiracy. -If an effect of a spell or permanent you control would refer to one or more of your faction members, it refers to all of them instead. For example, Goblin Chieftain has "Other Goblin creatures you control get +1/+1 and have haste." With Gorefang Clan, this would now mean "Other Orc, Goblin, Ogre, and Troll creatures you control get +1/+1 and have haste." -The effect of a Faction card does not alter the subtypes of creature cards in your deck, it only alters effects of spells and abilities you control. -This effect does not apply when determining the characteristics of a token you create. For example, when you activate Krenko, Mob Boss to "Create X 1/1 red Goblin creature tokens, where X is the number of Goblins you control." you would create only red Goblin creature tokens, not Orc/Goblin/Ogre/Troll abominations of nature. You do however, create X equal to the number of faction members you control, not just counting Goblins.

This kicks something out of almost every zone it enters to either neutral or positive effect. Too bad there's no established order for the zones so that it can simply be stated as moving the thing to the "next zone."
