Dah... crap. I accidentally made 3 entries. I'm not sure which one is worst, so just remove Xaalithraq from the runnings, since he was the last posted.
@Tomigon (93/100) Is this card insane? Yes. Is it awesome? Yes. Is it practical? Maybe. Let’s say your cards were mostly sorceries and instants, with maybe a few haste creatures in there and 19 mountains. Usually, you might get one mountain, which you could play then cast a bolt or shock, 0-1 haste creatures or a planeswalker with a damaging ability to swing for damage, and a sorcery or instant, say lava axe for 5. Would that combined with the mono-red burn and dragon token deal enough damage to finish your opponent? Maybe. Never use this in multiplayer, that’s obvious. It’s definitely a Game-Changer, and I like the art. If there was flavor text, I think a quote from Sarkhan Vol would fit well. Very nice.
@WitchDoctor133 (Overall: 85/100)It looks like you’ve got 3 cards here, I’ll do each separately. Runeward Spellbook (84/100) This card isn’t bad, I like the game-quickening effect, but, there are some nitty-gritty details that I don’t agree with about this card. First, the mana cost. I think this card is mainly a blue card, maybe red thrown in there signifying the chaos it would cause. I don’t think any of the other colors work as well in there. In addition, I feel as if 5 mana is too little for huge cards like this. Say, maybe 7 or 8. I do like the art, and the Scrying + draw effect. @WitchDoctor133 Next, Awaken the Earth (75/100) I like convoke, I like alternate casting effects. But, I feel this is tipping the scales a little (just a little). 8 mana for 4 5/5s with pseudo-haste, even just for 1 turn, is devastating even without trample. I think upping the cost to maybe 9 would work better. Also, I don’t think this is very “game-changing”. I think this is just more of a smasher ramping card than a shifter. I mean, say you’re at 3 life, and your opponent’s at 14 with 2 chump blockers and a Ral Zarek that can activate it’s -2 next turn. This wouldn’t do a whole lot. I like it as a card in general, and I would love one for my new ramp-awaken deck but I feel as if this card wasn’t meant for this challenge. @WitchDoctor133 Saving the best for last, Sunder Armies (97/100) This was the card I was looking for. I don’t get how it combos with Awaken the Earth, but I don’t even care (that wasn’t the point of this challenge anyways). It works wonders by itself. A spelling error, loses is spelled looses, but that’s small. This card is uber-versatile, 4 mana can grab you 1 destroyed permanent, 1 life gained and 1 damage dealt. Of course, the sweet stuff comes in the late game. Say we use the same scenario that we used last time again. Only this time, this comes into play with 8 mana on the block (5 for X) You’ll come in with 8 life, your opponent down to 9, and all 3 creatures down! Definitely one of my favorite game changers.
@MrRansom (98/100) Love it. I don’t think bounce can get any better than this. Recycling everything then cheating another permanent onto the field is fantastic. Maybe {3}{u}{u}{u} or maybe upping the cost a bit more for an instant would work a bit better but I don’t think I can criticize this card any more. A+
@Damnation (Overall: 96/100) First, Elesi, the Weaver. (96/100) Now, I know I said it wasn’t very game changing at first. That was before I printed it out and proxyed it in my esper control deck. I was curious to see what effect it could have. Apparently, more than I had thought. The first effect is stackable. I literally never realized how much this could affect the board. I play a lot of fetchlands and dual lands in my esper deck, so I had a lot of black mana to spare. The -1/-1 counter really neutralized threats and the last ability is a temporary board wipe, then you attack with everything. Next, Kythera, Blessed Ascendant (96/100) This is a beater. Multi-blockers are always some of my favorite cards, and this is no different. It half of Baneslayer and Guardian of the Gateless, two of my favorite angels. I think I’d like it a bit better if it was {3}{w}{w}{w} honestly but {5}{w}{w} is honestly fine.
@Corwinnn (90/100) Creative. I think maybe the name Incarnation of Time with an avatar type might be better. But, lots of pros: the time counter to cumulative upkeep is definitely creative, but cumulative upkeep just isn’t that great in general. I think a cost of {u} for a 1/1 may be better because “time” and an uneven p/t is eh to me. I really like the idea though, and the activated ability is a neato addition!
@Biblio (Overall: 90/100) First, Ego, the Living Planet (89/100). I love the bounce and what I love most is the casting from library, but I think that {g}{g} shouldn’t be there. I think {2}{u}{u}{u}{b}{b}{b} would’ve worked better. (Though you probably couldn’t fit that). Next, Bejeweled (91/100) Very creative. I like the Soul Conduit effect and the Leyline starting effect but I think the colors don’t really match. I get the flavor with being Bejeweled and all but it’s just a side note. The non-land permanents are legendary part could go in my opinion, though. Good job overall!
@CrucibleOfHate (Overall: 98/100) (96/100) I love the game changing chaos this would create. I can picture the players rummaging through each other's’ libraries in my head. I think 3x{u} is a bit too color-orientated and {2}{u}{u} would work well. I also don’t get why it’s legendary but, it works. Very nice. Next, Xaalithraq, (100/100) I had my fingers crossed that you would change Sudden Death which got a 69/100. Xaalithraq is just too good, but it’s balanced. Stealing creatures then stealing other creatures is great, and it’s balanced because your opponent could use a sac spell (like exploit). I love it, the colors are perfectly matched. Nothing else to say, moving on!
@Animist (Overall: 98/100) Now or Never (97/100) Love it. Really fits that title, but maybe both black and white? I also think that it should be bumped to 6 or 7 mana, as I said before, 5 is just too low for a game ender but other than that, this is near perfect. Point of Pandemonium (99/100) Oh no, this was sooooooo close. The art was great, the cost was just about there (7 mana seemed better to me), and this is a huge chaos inducing game-changer. The one thing, ONE I thought got this card -1 was the wording and missing effects. If all cards are put into a pile, there’s no need to shuffle the 0 card libraries! If something did need shuffling, it would’ve been the pile. In addition, since you’re casting at random, there’s not really a need to put the pile face-down. That’s all. Great card, I’m going to proxy this and troll everyone by putting it into my Boros Deck ;D
@TheCopyrightContinuum (Overall: 94/100) End of the Old Ways (99/100) Everything about this is like WOW. Perfect. I love your corrupt mechanic (lol), and I love the black orientation. I think {b}{g} maybe might work, but that’s for another discussion. The one tiny problem with this is, the Demon Shade token doesn’t specify a creature as it spawns. Next, Death Grip (89/100). I get it, you lose stuff and gain stuff, but the ends don’t really meet the odds. 5 life and a 6/6 flyer against you is pretty big. The enchantment itself isn’t indestructible, maybe an emblem would be better? I love the art and name though. Pretty sweet.
@Gelectrode (Overall: 95/100) First, Endless Peace (92/100) I like the card but the mana cost of colorless mana confuses me. Why not 1 of each color? In addition, creatures can’t attack, but why can they block? (I know it doesn’t make sense but I think you should complete the two anyhow) I do like the flavor reference, the art is neato. End of Days (98/100) I love it. imagine picking 0 on your first turn with this so an opponent can cast a pact. The flavor text is epic, probably my favorite in all of MTGCardSmith. The card itself it epic but why 5 Xs? If each player is reaping the benefits I personally think 4 Xs is fine, maybe even 3Xs. I love the card though. Epic!
@Beeswax (99/100) Oh gods. Oh no. OMFG. My head just blew up with the possibilities of this card. I can’t even state why it’s so good. Probably just everything working together. That 1 point probably came from the fact that I’d want this to be treated as a player. i.e. Withengar Unbound.
@JudarDuBarbarian (70/100) Unplayable to the point of frustration. I feel like this wasn’t really a card meant to do anything, much less enter a challenge. 70 points for ridikulous laughter if you get this out, but otherwise… no.
@BellBOY_d (88/100) I love it, it’s OP as JaceTMS but I love it. Specifically, I like Curtain Call, one of the sweetest abilities I’ve seen. The card itself is way too OP. Like @Corwinnn said, “What? Two Eldrazi at a discount seems OP? How is this possible?:::doing math - pretending MrRansom just played it::: Oh yeah, that might be a bit much!”
@seaspray4TF3 (97/100) Amazing, but confounding. I imagine most cards will be turned upside down and combat modifiers won’t exist anymore. It’s confusing though, most players are gonna have a wild time with this. I don’t like how blocked creatures must attack, I think maybe the defending player guesses what creatures the opponent attack with? But to answer your question, yes, that changes the game a ton!
@citizen66 (Overall: 86/100) First, Catastrophic Eruption (80/100) I like the concept but there are a lot of syntax and grammar mistakes, for example, it should be “discards down to one card”. Another thing: Cards aren’t “destroyed” when they are discarded, so no phantom lands will enter the battlefield. Other than that though, the concept is great! Next, Demonic Activity (92/100) I love it, I love just about everything on this card. There are a few things though, for one, I think the mana cost is high for a sorcery and if each player reaps the benefits. Maybe {4}{b}{b} for an instant or {2}{b}{b}{b} for a sorcery. Other than that my friend, this card is sick!
@Dbishop002 (85/100) I like the simple name, concept and design, I really do, but this is the definition of overpowered. I know it’s 8 mana, but consider most other game enders, Door to Nothingness for 10, 2 of each color. I like the fateful hour, but again too overpowered. With a few tweaks though, this can be the next Heroes Remembered!
@koover (91/100) I like it, it’s could be considered a good opposite to In Garruk’s Wake, but I think it’s a lot OP for the mana. A lot of people don’t get the power of manifesting, but obviously, you do, so +91 for that!
@lookingupanddown (90/100) It’s a great card, but a bit OP. 9 mana is ok for a game-ender, but this is a multiplayer game-ender. Exiling EVERYTHING (creatures) you don’t control then dealing a ton of damage to your opponents is overpowered. But I love the card and art.
@Nightmare_Boss (84/100) So Karn’s last ability, basically. I like it, but the mana cost has me weary. Also, it wouldn’t be an Instant-Interrupt, only an instant.
Congrats to everyone who entered! I feel like I gave a ton of 90+ scores! Next one coming very soon. I was really surprised that no one made a planeswalker but… eh. Congratulations to @Beeswax for winning! Your Hall of Fame trophy is coming soon! Also, kudos to @CrucibleOfHate for being the first to get a perfect score! Your Hall of Fame trophy is also coming soon!
@King_Devil_II, thanks so much for hosting the challenge. It was a pleasure to see all the game changing cards people developed and also to read your concluding write-up! Cheers!
