Im sad

Hello my name is Paul-u and as you can see, I am sad.
I have been an active member for the past few months, liking, commenting, and creating cards along with getting along with all of the other members.

But no one seems to take interest in my cards :/

Im serious, like no one has even commented on a signle one of my cards, except for some typos and stuff like that.

No real effort has been put into seeing what I have to display in magic cardsmith, and that makes me sad

My profile is here:

I really appreciate it if you would take a look at it (I dont reccomend the Revel cards, they are very faulty).

If you still don't want to take time into seeing my talents, that's fine. I'll just continue my activity until you do.

~Paul-u

  • Lol stop whining.
  • @Daragonion

Ok, if this is considered whinning, then I will stop.
  • Dude there is a considerable amount of good card makers on this site, which makes you nothing special. If you want your cards to be noticed, enter contest and stuff. Get involved in the community or such.

@Daragonion - You are right. This has been suggested by the mods, and the most prominent members that a good way to become noticed is to enter contests, give good feedback, and go with the flow.

Edit : This might be minor, but good grammar and capitalization can help. Also be careful with your choice of art and use of language.
  • @Paul-u It's not whining :) I think you should just say I want some feedbacks on my cards.
  • I agree with @Tomigon... @ChargingBadger and @MrRansom... who are both long time and favored members... are always asking for feedback on their cards... so don't be shy about it. When I'm working on sets or busy IRL, I don't get the chance to look at all the cards I want to... and I'm sure other people are the same. @Damnation and @Daragonion are correct as well... A challenge is basically someone who wants to see some cool cards and that guy (or gal) is definitely going to look at your cards, because they asked you to show them your mad skillz!
  • Yeah, I'm a long ish time member and I ask for assistance on my cards and still receive little aid. Doesn't bother too much, I usually make my stuff at inopportune times. It's just a matter of luck, mostly, if you're really in dare need try to find a decent smith and specifically ask them for help on a card. Don't overload one smith though, don't pester or insist, just ask politely and be patient, people don't mind helping.

Just gotta ask, all you can do.
  • @Daragonion You should stop being a pr***. @Paul-U Seriously. Ask for feedback, and you'll probably get it. Probably.

@Suicidal_Deity makes a good point. Timing is important. Making a card when other users are inactive tends to result in a card that gets little attention. I think this is an interesting "issue".

@Corwinnn is definitely right. Haha! I constantly ask for help with my cards. Sometimes people are kind enough to reply to my call for assistance. Sometimes not.

@Daragonion, you seem to have a bad attitude. No need to be acting like Paul-u's concerns are any less valid than any other user's concerns.

@Paul-u, be sure to reply to whatever feedback people may offer you, and, if you see fit, redesign some cards based on that feedback.
I can't speak for anyone else, but when people alter their designs based on points I have made, it makes me feel valued and more likely to offer input on their cards in the future.
  • Hi, Paul-u.
How I normally get my cards to become favorited, commented on, or both is to make them controversial. For example, I made a card with 5 Xs in its mana cost, which was very unusual for a magic card.

    http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/end-of-days-14?list=user

Once I created that card, it was no longer End of Days to some people. It was "the crazy card with 5 Xs in its mana cost" card. If you ever try and blend in with anyone else, your cards will be overlooked because nobody will distinguish theem from any other magic card.

Like what @Daragonion and @Damnation said, try and enter and/or host contests. That is normally how I get most of my cards noticed, not only because you can get your cards favorited through winning, but also because your cards are not swept away from other people creating their cards. On the other hand, I created a parody card of @Corwinnn that I intended as a laugh- when I checked back a couple of hours later, it had 16 favorites and 11 comments! Surprise!

Do not worry about not being noticed at first- when I first joined MTGCardsmith, I was very self-conscious about this. Now, I provide many challenges, win contests 40% of the time, and am deeply ingrained with the social aspect of MTGCardsmith [verification needed]. If you are not noticed now, you may be noticed later as long as you keep on 'smithing onward.

First off: don't let a flame war happen on this forum, @Daragonion or anyone else.

    Okay - @Paul-u
You have good, interesting design ideas. Your cards are a lot like mine were a while ago, good ideas but bad art choices and finicky wording. My biggest advice to you would be my biggest advice to myself right now as well: Simplify.
A lot of users (myself included) like to make flashy legends and cool, synergistic effects. Nothing wrong with that, its just important to get back to basics once in a while. For example, I love your Dissolve Will, maybe price it down to just {W}. But stuff like Bloodoath Jury and Greak, Unbroken, or Fido, the Selfish? I don't want to read all that text. Remember to keep going back and editing until you find the right templating, art, and wording for your effects. Try especially to get good art for your cards; read this: http://forums.mtgcardsmith.com/discussion/441/tutorial-selecting-artwork#latest
    Good luck!
  • And don't forget this one...
    http://forums.mtgcardsmith.com/discussion/497/tutorial-cardsmithing-m15-or-the-art-of-making-custom-cards#latest
All the tutorials have knowledge we've shared for the benefit of others who might want a little help, but might be shy in asking... And this Forum thread is a prime example of why no one has to be afraid to ask... everyone is willing to help out!
  • Thanks for all the feedback, especailly @ChargingBadger and @Corwinn, I am pursi=uing your ideas and will become an even better member, with better art too ;)
  • @Paul-u Don't be afraid and said open up your horizon and your speaking to a cardsmither who has been here for over a year and I still don't get much feedback (Sorta ;) )
  • Just do it. Don't let your dreams be dreams and become the best card maker in the world. Golly Gumdrops I'll even like 5 of your cards @Paul-u
  • @AlphaOmega lol this was a while ago when I was not appreciated but thanks anyway.
