I went through the list, and here are the mechanics I really liked:
@Faiths_Guide and Warp. (When you draw this card, you may reveal it from your hand. If you do, you may cast sorcery spells as if they had flash until end of turn.) @Fabiocbinbutter with Shellgame. ({cost}: {effect}. Reveal this card from your hand and shuffle it back in. An opponent picks a card from your hand, and if it has the same name as the revealed card, discard it. Activate this ability only as a sorcery.) @Biblio with Recon (I'd change the name though). (Whenever you declare any number of attackers, defending player reveals that many cards from his or her hand.) @Tomigon with Insidious N. (Discard a card with converted mana cost N: You may cast this card from your graveyard this turn.)
@ChasetheHuman and @Piffantour, your subthemes will be in the set (I couldn't judge them though, because they're not really mechanics), and I will favorite 1 other card of your choice. Tell me them on this post.
I guess I'll do this: 4th gets 2 favs on whatever cards they want, 3rd gets 3, 2nd gets 4, and 1st gets 5, and the mechanic in the set.
I like the idea and flavor of this a lot, and it's very cool. "Oh, here's my card! Want it? Well, try and find it! Oh, not that card? Oh well. Ha! Try and find it again!" and there could be different costs, like maybe to discard a card so your hand gets smaller and smaller and the opponent has more of a chance finding it, I don't know. Amazing concept. My concern is that the reminder text is really wordy. Maybe a bit to complex for common. -------------------------- Warp by @Faiths_Guide
This is so cool! You could do, so much with this! Thoughtsieze in the middle of combat, or Supreme Verdict *puts on evil face*. Sort of like Miracle, but so much cooler! Also pretty simple, not that hard to understand for newer players, I'd put it on a common. What I'm thinking is that you could make it "until your next turn," so you can get more use out of it. -------------------------- Recon by @Biblio
Short and sweet. Extremely simple, and in the world that the set is on, super flavorful. My only criticism is the name. -------------------------- Insidious N by @Tomigon
Very cool, many applications for this. Basically a reusable flashback, at a cost. The thing is, though, is that the discarding is a pretty heavy cost, but if you remove it, it's better than flashback. Actually, that might be an upside... --------------------------
4th place: @Fabiocbinbutter with Shellgame. Send me two cards for me to favorite.
3rd place: Insidious N by @Tomigon. Send me three cards for me to favorite.
Now, the top 2:
1st place: This was close, but Warp beats out Recon. There are just more uses for it. In my set, I'll use the until your next turn, though, to use it to the best of it's ability.
@Biblio, send me 4 cards to favorite. @Faiths_Guide, send me 5 cards to favorite.
4th, 3rd, and 2nd place, I will use the mechanics (unnamed) at least once throughout the set.
Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you everyone for participating! Happy Holidays!
However, I have to point this out; Discarding in my Insidious ability is the most important thing. Insidious' concept is totally different from flashback's. If I remove discarding from the Insidious ability, it ruins everything. Concept : Opponents can't see your hand, so they can't know when you can use Insidious ability. And adding "N" makes your move more difficult to be expected. That's why I named it "Insidious". If it is just a flashback with no discarding, everyone can expect when you can use that spell again. That's less scary. Insidious ability uses your hand as a place where evils hide their plans. Your challenge is to make a "hand" matter mechanic. So that's why I submitted it. Same in my Inkling. It uses the rule that no one else but you can see your hand as a weapon. You give an information on purpose, and confuse opponents with your poker face. Like;"Is that card is still in his hand? How should I move now if that 's true?". Link to the card : http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/whisper-of-fireflies-6?list=set&set=1178 Check out how the ability is interacting with card's effect.
But I enjoyed making cards very much I hope you understand the concepts of my mechanics later!
