  • This card uses a custom mechanic for multiplayer that I've used on a few cards, Continue. (Basically, you get to keep your battlefield around and keep interacting after you've "already lost")
    Unfinished Business
  • @CrucibleOfHate Your card is now featured on WhyMTGCardSmith!

I wanted to make a PAct series for the 10 guilds

Is a submission of a card with printed mana cost {X} acceptable (i.e. a card with converted mana cost of zero when not on the stack)? I ask because I don't want to spoil the intent of this contest by posting something along the lines of Chalice of the Void, Astral Cornucopia, etc, rather than something strictly 0.
  • @Involutus I thought of that, but I think I have to say no because I want to have a X challenge in the future and X is different than 0 because you can choose to pay more than 0. I know it falls along the lines of CMC = 0 but no sorry.
  • To All: Giving everyone personal feedback is really tough. I think I'm going to push the end date back to tuesday. In the future, contests might be 9 days long as opposed to 7.
  • No worries. That's what I thought :)
  • You're putting in a lot of work for these contests! I hope you get paid for the overtime!

  • @CrucibleOfHate Why would they even put that card on Why MTG Cardsmith? It's just so... bamboozling.

Guys, my god, I'm sorry guys, I have so much to do and so little time, and managing my challenges is only one of them, unfortunately. This might have to be extended a while, I'll let you guys know when I'm done. In the future, I'll probably have to limit entries because it's either that or to stop giving every card feedback, and I don't want to stop doing that.
  • Detailed feedback is a killer!
  • Charge a $5 entry fee per card!
  • @King_Devil_II, just take your time and do it right. I'm sure everyone really appreciates the work you put into hosting these challenges for our enjoyment. Cheers, mate! :D
  • You leave feedback?
  • @wiili Yeah check out some of the earlier challenges

@voiceofsparta Check your card's comment's, @Koover left some good advice
  • @Damnation (98/100) I think this card would be great as an instant, because if you’re discarding at the beginning of your upkeep, an instant offers more flexibility but is still balanced. I love this card for several reasons. The art is fantastic, but mostly, I love the way this card changes the early-game. Scrying before drawing to get that one extra land you need or that one Mox Diamond can really change the flow of the game. On your next turn, I don’t think anyone would pay {u} unless they have nothing to cast (which would be unusual on turn 2). Discarding a chump blocker or a card with Madness is ok, because, this isn’t Yu-Gi-Oh so card advantage isn’t the only way to win! Love this card!

@Animist (100/100) Wow, to say the least. Those 0/0s can do many things, they can get boosted Leyline of the Meek on turn 1 to not die as they enter, but what I’m thinking of is Disciple of the Vault accompanied with evil diabolical laughter (look it up if you don’t know what I’m talking about). The art is great and the flavor text is great (love that reference) and I really challenge anyone who plays Izzet Artifacts not to play this.

@Biblio1 (87/100) Like @Corwinnn says, RoFLMao! I like the concept, but I don’t think anyone would actually use it well. First off, no one is actually going to destroy this card. Attacking won’t do anything, and blocking with it is okay, but trample with get through and damage won’t be dealt, for just one discarded card. I don’t get the uncommon status but I got a laugh out of this one!

@ImBadAtBalancing (84/100) I think this is a bit much. If it worked as intended, a target player would potentially suffer heavy damage, but the wording is off so that opponent could go “LOL haha no.” With some tweaking, this card could be a buster.

@VSSS (87/100) Ok, ok I like the concept. The casting spells for a small creature for a smaller price. The only problem is, I don’t really think after 5 more creatures are cast, a 3/3 will do much. I think it would actually still be balanced if you made it a 5/2 or a 4/2 with trample. Also, first strike is a white or red ability so it doesn’t fit well with green. But I absolutely love the core of this card.

@JBYT_LoadedTommy (88/100) I think that I can see this as a common. Even with all the abilities, it might as well be a common because of the {3} to boost and the inability to trigger exalted. If you take away the unable to attack or block alone, and maybe even the enter the battlefield tapped (because you couldn’t activate the ability without haste anyways), it would be a pretty sweet 0 drop!

@Paratriad (95/100) Suicide black at its finest! The only thing is, this being a rare is turning out to be One With Nothing again. If this was an uncommon, people would be mooning over it, like Monastery Swiftspear, but, as a rare, non-suicide black players will groan and moan and complain. In addition, I actually don’t think the effect is good enough for a rare but the un-orthodox way it works is. Suicide black is very risky, and this card doubles the risks (and fun!) I really don’t see this is a contemporary card, though. It’s just too risky and enchantment removal is rare among black cards. People playing fog will also blow you away. Overall though, this is just a super fun multiplayer card, and with great artwork! (Though do remember to include the artist next time :D)
  • @seaspray4TF3 (90/100) I love the creativity but, this is unfortunately a terrible card. Unless you just don’t use her ability and end the turn, chances are, your opponent won’t either, and this will just be an useless piece of planeswalker on the battlefield, once you use that first ability, your opponent will kill it off with her ultimate and gain card advantage. Unless you uncover a Black Lotus, and maybe even not then, it’s not worth it. It might be 0 mana, but it’s just not worth it. +90 for creativity and balancing.

@strongbelieves (96/100) ...And we are back to Suicide Black (kinda). You know when your opponent Stifles a Phyrexian Dreadnought, and all the other players throw their cards on the table and groan? You know that evil feeling you get when you smack this card onto the table, kick that 12/12 off the board then gain 24 life? You know then that this card is awesome. In a few turns though, you won’t. The weakness of this card is that your opponent chooses the creature. If it was “sacrifices a creature at random” this would be perfect, yet still balanced. That emblem will come back to haunt you in the long run though, so the player that plays this will have to weigh the pros against the cons. Overall? This is a well rounded, balanced card. I feel like someone should make a 0 mana 0/1 flash just for this.

@Kotadis (91/100) Ok, ok, I love the concept. I’m a fan of the Moxes, but I don’t think it should be Legendary. None of the other Moxes are legendary, and it doesn’t make sense, because your opponents reap the benefits, too. Small syntax error: it’s not a “token copy” it’s a “token that’s a copy of”. Otherwise, not a bad card!

@Xenthori (90/100) I thought so hard of what to give this card. I don’t have a real rubric for cards, but after this challenge I have to make one. All because of this card. I thought of giving it a perfect score, but this card was really just too simple. But then again, I shouldn’t be punishing for simplicity. But if it’s too simple, there’s less margin for error, so the card should be rewarded with a high score. But… And therefore I enter a paradox. Because of this card, I had to make a rubric, and then redo all the scores above based on it. I decided +90 for No Syntax Errors, Balancing, Fits the Theme, Usefulness, Art, Flavor Text. No points for creativity. Overall? This is the new Spellbook.

@citizen66 (97/100) This is kind of overpowered. Topdeck three is literally nothing for pure card removal, your choose, not even in play, at instant speed. To balance this, making it from an instant to a sorcery seems like the best option. I love the concept and the art, this is a great card.

@Gelectrode (94/100) I can see why it was fun to make! It’s a really fun card, but there are some mishaps. First of all, this card is a bit underpowered. It would be hard enough to get some P/T on it, but even harder to sneak it past blockers without evasion. Once you do get it past blockers, somehow, usually you’ll search your library for 1 card. Powerful, but not necessarily playable, because of how easy it is to block it and remove it. It’s a really fun card, but not quite there as a fun, playable card.

@FangQuil (91/100) I really love all the flavor that’s going on here, the sun is cycling, but if you pay mana it get freeze framed on the Dawn. I don’t necessarily think that the ability is too useful, though. 1 damage is virtually nothing, just ask suicide black players, and even 1 damage to all the creatures he/she controls isn’t that much. What I would suggest is making this 2 and 2, which is a bit over the top, but not that much, considering the drawbacks and that it’s a rare. Simoon is 2 mana for 1 damage to all creatures a target player controls, but is uncommon. Lightning Bolt is 3 for 1, and it’s still a common/uncommon, so with the drawback of you draw it, you cast it, and the opening hand gimmick, this could still be balanced even if it was 2 damage for both. I really love the concept, though.
  • @RedRedMage (85/100) Black Lotus is not overpowered. It is crazy, godly, and a terrible mistake. Just because you skip 1 draw, DOES NOT mean you get a Black Lotus! Let’s do the math. 3 mana. 1 land your first turn. 3+1=4. 4 mana can get you Concentrate. That’s 3 cards. 3-1=2. 2 extra cards, FIRST TURN! That is pure card advantage! That is the definition of overpowered! It would be balanced if it was skip your next turn, but by no mean does 1 draw step equal 3 mana! Okay, sorry, I freaked out when I saw this, but it is really a cool idea, a counter, less OP Black Lotus. Keep working on it!

@CrucibleOfHate (96/100) I can’t even… Games with this… Honestly, all I have to say is that this is purely broken unless you’re playing team magic. Why? Well, it does one of two things. One. The other player(s) is/are stupid and won’t give up one card draw just to continue the game, or, they give up a card. Both options are over the top. The second moreso than the first. This should NOT be a common! This should be the rarest rare in stores! This is Shahrazad all over again! Other than that, by the way, I love the card.

@MrRansom (95/100) This is so simple. I love simplicity, and this is good, but, as I mentioned in @Xenthori ‘s feedback, simplicity is hard to grade. I love this card, and nothing is wrong about it, but it doesn’t really meet the uniqueness I want to see. I love this card, don’t get me wrong, but, it’s just, too simple. And I love simplicity, but others will more complex cards are displaying more uniqueness, and I have to give them credit for that. I love this card though, by the way.

@Corwinnn (95/100) I really like it! It could be so very useful in just about any blue deck! The problem is, it isn’t too practical. Getting all Four keys you would have a 1/15 chance before getting the first one, then a 1/20 chance, then a 1/30 then a 1/60 chance. That is not good. Chances are, you wouldn’t be able to activate this at all in a game. If you allowed any number, however, then the draw 4 would be a lot less useful as you could just end up drawing more Keys. Overall, awesome concept though.

@Tomigon (98/100) I absolutely love this card, it is amazing in its balancing and choices. It’s balanced because of how the creature has to be tapped, and the choices are pretty sweet! A couple things though, I think the Kicker cost can easily become {4}{u}{u} instead of {3}{u}{u}{u}. Also, there’s no way this should be a common. I mean, come on! Even Mind Control was an uncommon! This should either be a really powerful uncommon or an average rare. I love this card.

@DeepSky (94/100) Let’s consider the possibilities. Idiots can put it into a Gruul Aggro and randomize the results. Or, it can become a staple in control. Yes. Control. This can be the most devastating card in control ever seen. Control usually doesn’t run many creatures, and this is a perfect removal addition to a blue-heavy control deck without much removal. I love the card, but the balancing is kind of off. Also, Fiery Impulse is 1 mana for 2 or 3 damage to a targeted creature. I like the card, and with some work, it could turn out great!

@wiilli (88/100) Whoa. That was literally my only thought when I saw this card. That, and nice art! The comments are right, nothing for a free 2/1 is way too overpowered. There should be at least a drawback. Maybe something like, When Lightning Crusader enters the battlefield and was not cast with its Dash cost, it deals 2 damage to you. That would make this card potentially work. I like the concept, and, with a few tweaks, this could be a huge Boros aggro addition!

@koover (88/100) So, I’m getting the message of 15 mana for 1 cast. And you may or may not even get it? I dunno, not very great, I’d say. I would change it to this: 3 gold counters, and only you can pay to remove them. After that, you can cast them if an opponent did not pay during his or her last turn. That might be Legendary Mythic status. Otherwise, I’d change it to an uncommon or a common and make it not legendary. I love the core of this card though.

@Mongoosa (83/100) A few Grammar mistakes I’d like to point out are that it should be: Gain control of target creature until end of turn and untap it. It gains haste until end of turn. At the end of your turn, it deals damage to you equal to its power. Next, this is way overpowered. Even if it was P+T combined, it would still be WAY over the top. Because it doesn’t tap after paying 1, then you could potentially gain control of ALL your opponent’s creatures and win before the end of your turn. Way too much power, but with some tweaks, it could be great! I really like the idea!

@Nicholas_Bolas (89/100) This card is creative but it would be more readable if there were line spaces between the text. I like the concept, but it’s not very powerful. On turn 5, a 5/5 isn’t much, even if it “can’t” die. The next time it would come out would be turn 10, and on turn 10, you’ve either lost, are about to lose, or are about to win without the need for another 10/10. I mean, just look at Ghoultree. I like the concept, though.

@tneckababy (90/100) Let’s face it, this card is pretty bad in power. The ability is basically a regenerate of sorts without the benefits of still dealing damage and it has to tap. I think this could very easily be an uncommon. I like the core of this card, and it could better with a few tweaks, like maybe Flash.

@fabiocbinbutter (DQ/100) I love the card, honestly, very creative, but I have to disqualify this card for a couple of reasons: For one, it wasn’t made on MTGCardSmith. Also, this card isn’t 0 mana. It’s a forced suspend that is technically 0 CMC but questions were asked in the middle of all this and I said that it actually had to be 0 as the casting cost. I really love the card, and if it fits any other challenge I’ll do in the future, I hope you’ll consider making this again on MTGCardSmith this time and entering. Sorry.
  • @FireForgedFiend (90/100) This card is OK, but honestly, power level is low. Hexproof even for all creatures isn’t really worth 4 mana even if you cast it on turn 3. I think it could be 3 mana for the pact, and cast on turn 2, which is balanced because there isn’t much to protect on turn 2. I love the concept, though.

@TheCopyrightContinuum (99/100) Great card. Love the choices, protect a creature until it can attack, or boost it. You were right though, one counter is probably enough, two with choices is a bit overkill. I love the flavor, the art, this is a fantastic card.

@gterww123 (97/100) I love this card so much… It’s so useful that I fell in love with it at first read. Two things though, it’s a bit OP. 3 mana for an entire new hand? No. That’s a no-no. 4 mana would be better. Another thing, @milanaarz was right, better wording would be: If a player would shuffle his or her library, that player shuffles the cards in his or her hand into his or her library instead, then draws that many cards.
{3}: Target player shuffles his or her library. Really cool card though, I love it.

@VoiceOfSparta (80/100) I think I know that you meant end of turn. That would’ve been epic. Unfortunately, with this wording, it becomes way too OP, as the creature gain the ability and never loses it. I love the concept, though.
