I made the artwork for this card by hand. I think it came out well. I also used just the right amount of abilities to give it a balanced feel. Tribe: Spirits. Card: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/meditating-spiritguard.
Zzem Alkrethor leads zombies into battle with other tribes of undead, hoping to gain those tribe's power and bring his adopted tribe to the top. He has the ranking equivalent of a baron in his tribe, and constantly schemes to become the leader. He joined the zombies after he became a lich, in hopes of being able to cast an undead army against Avacyn and her cohorts. He was once a high mage in Innistrad. Fearing old age, he made a pact with an unnamed demon to become a lich. However, Avacyn recognizes his dangerousness and is constantly trying to hunt him down--unsuccessfully, because when Zzem overthrew the demon he made a compact with he gained it's powers of becoming basically invisible to divine beings.
Tribe: Zombies This card is designed to leverage loss of life. It is designed to be cast on turn 3, and give you two 2/2 Zombies. You can cipher one, then repeat casting the card over the game to gain long value. Also a card you can topdeck to win the game late. In commander, this card would make you sh*t your pants, XD Maybe a little OP, but I thought it was a fun one. Here's my entry: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/deaths-beckon
@Ulakooshie. The end date is listed here... http://mtgcardsmith.com/contest. Your card has to be manually posted, so when the people who add them see the new cards, they add em in, also, I just looked and your card is there.
I tried playing around with a design that wasn't too wordy. I like where it ended. It's definitely a "build around me" card in both limited and constructed, and I'm a fan of those kinds of cards. A deck built around Hythonia the Cruel won me a few FNMs when it was in standard.
Tribe: Zombies http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/grave-guardian?list=set&set=2605 I like to think of this card as the black equivalent of Whisperwood Elemental. All those zombies you're sacrificing and using as chump blockers need a purpose until you can scrounge up a delve spell or a reanimator. This card takes care of that. It's an expensive defender with a small body to compensate for that (b) cost revive. Abuse enter the battlefield effects, use lifelink cards as 1 cmc reverse burn spells... the list of purposes goes on. I've used it as a proxy and find it to be very balanced in casual play with a zombie control deck, and I can't think of a way to break it, save for maybe with Torrent Elemental, though that card's pretty broken anyway. Anyway, I hope the judges enjoy this, and see it's potential!
