  Magic: the Gathering is philosophy. The color pie and the mechanics along with the front and back templates are the ciphers or "Rosetta Stone" for understanding its meaning.

  People study Seinfield for psychology, they study Blackjack and video gamers for pattern recognition. They study fiction novels for literature. They study pop music for music theory. They study the effects of illegal drugs on the human brain. People even study World of Warcraft and other MMO,s as contained psuedo sociology and economic structures. Philosophy is simply the practice of asking why. You can continue to mock me or you can start asking why, the choice is yours.
