  • The only thing I was not able to do was to put the 1+* in the stats box like in Allosaurus rider.

    Entry 3:

    I know the mouse token in Throne of Eldraine are 1/1s, but I decided that I needed to give this mouse an ability that complemented her crow partner.

    @MemoryHead
    Smart, though "on an adventure" isn't currently defined within game rules. I think you need to say "in exile," but that could result in painful scenarios.
  • @Faiths_Guide I already went over this with DomriKade over on the community discord. For the sake of copy-and-pasting my main arguments directly over:

    I'd argue that it might be correct in a fashion similar to cards that refer to themselves while suspended as simply being suspended as opposed to "in exile and suspended".

    My other arguments for the current wording of simply "is on an adventure" would be the four cards in Throne of Eldraine with reminder text reading "(It doesn't need to have gone on the adventure first.)" and the fact that WotC tends to shy away from wording that complex through simplifications such as "is suspended" as opposed to "is in exile and was suspended". Ah, who knows. Maybe I'm just trying to justify my bad decisions.

    It's quite possible that you're right and now that two people have expressed that opinion then I'm inclined to agree, but it seemed like a good idea and I had my reasons at the time.

    @MemoryHead
    Let me start by saying that I also like the idea in theory. However, it doesn't work based on the rules of the adventure mechanic.

    Suspend defines a suspended card in 702.61b, which is why it doesn't require additional rules text clarification.

    Reminder text is just that, a simplified reminder of what something does, it doesn't need to follow the rules that govern rules text (all italicized text functions in this way).

    Last point, @DomriKade is/was a judge, not sure what level. If he makes a suggestion like that, it's a safe bet he's right. I have first hand experience of his knowledge crushing my ingenuity XD

    *EDIT*
    After compiling this for you, I don't think WoTC could've defined a card as "on an adventure" even if they'd wanted to without breaking all of their conventions (and maybe overhauling fundamental game rules). The game doesn't track how something ended up in a zone over the course of a game--don't hurt me, I might be simplifying that incorrectly--without additional reminders because it is too difficult for players to remember. Suspend, alongside some other cards and mechanics, gets around this with counters.

    It reminds me of all the work @ningyounk and I put into Cache and it is part of the reason @Tomigon was so concerned about it.

    Hope this helps!

  • Kind of a weird and clunky worded card I built around the one effect, but I thought fit Ajani the most. Ajani the planeswalker starts with 1 loyalty.

    @fiskerton Selfless Martyr is a tautology.
  • @KorandAngels it's better than Ajani, Martyr
  • @Faiths_Guide thanks a lot! A lot of cool cards coming out of this challenge. It was going to be 3 mana for the adventure with the opponent making two 1/1s instead, but I remembered the art and changed it.

    I’m going to keep this here, then make wording changes soon :)
  • Sorry for posting the link, I’ll change it to an image soon:

    is this still going? the date in the description already passed but people still posted
  • @Zero0, Yeah, I wonder what's going on with that. @Dechujoh64 ?
  • I submitted by entry on October 31 where I live.
  • @Faiths_Guide "Crushing your ingenuity"? You make me sound like a villain! :)

    I don't want to take up space on a contest in progress but the way Adventurer cards work is more complex than most folks tend to think. Namely, (and this is what @MemoryHead and I discussed) there's no such thing as 'on an adventure' despite what the printed token suggests.

    To MemoryHead's credit though, the concept is easy enough to understand and the game does track how a card got somewhere if it's connected to an ability so it should function. The difference is that we don't have precedent for it at this point so we're operating on an assumption of function and player understanding. This is also much more clear than is in exile and was exiled as part of the resolution of its Adventure or whatever. Hope that clears things up.

    For the record, I'm an active L2 though that doesn't necessarily mean I'm always right!

    Every discussion I've ever had with you has made me a better "smith."

    Right, "on an Adventure" has no in game definition.

    Aaand, I learned something again.

    But you almost always are.
