Brion exited her sleeping place quietly as she did she was almost knocked off her feet by the furious winds catching herself on a nearby log she pulled up her hood and began to move through the now desolate forest. The found her way through the collapsed trees and still formed puddles of acid, it was about an hour into her trek when she heard the thing. At first she thought it was the still raging wind but then she saw it in the corner of her eye a dark cloud of red energy and malice screaming toward her. She pulled out her bow and knocked an arrow firing a shot, although he aim was perfect the wind knocked the arrow away.

"Of course", she cursed in her head knocking a second arrow "Let's try this again" she fired the second arrow this one landed into the wrath sending a shudder through the beast but at this point it had reached her a tendril of red energy lashed out striking her in the side ripping through her flesh like a thorns. Brion reached to her side and pulled out an arrow from the quiver at her side knocking it she whispered an incantation into her bow, an enchanted longbow made for killing exactly this type of foe, the arrow lit up in a holy light the huntress released the arrow which fired through the creature like a ray of sun cutting through shadows, and with a rage filled scream the wrath dissipated into mist.

  • Only a few hours of morning research go undisturbed for Solomon. As he leaves his tower for a morning stroll to observe the damage of the storm, he is confronted by the wraith.

"What do we have here? Did you cause all this damage, hmm? Well we can't be having none of that, can we?"

He pulls a chain from within his cloak and even though his stance and technique shows he has no experience wielding a chain as a weapon, with a single whip, the chain shoots towards the wraith, wrapping around it a few times before the wraith begins to seeming be absorbed into the chain, causing blue, ethereal flames to course their way down its length.

"Well whoever or whatever sent you should be finding it difficult to do so again now." He chuckles to himself, as he finishes his observation notes, gathers a few samples of the corroded ground and flora and returns to his tower once again.

  • @Tommia when will heat 3 end?
  • edited November 2019
I'll be getting to this tomorrow. Spent about half my available time working on a decklist
  • Forecast for today: Chance of planar collapse within the next few hours.
  • (Just in time!)

Montague walked out of the cathedral, only to see that the landscape had drastically changed. Acid rain was falling from the sky, making the desolate landscape around him steam. "Even stranger.", he thought. "I wonder what caused this." Just then, a growl sounded behind him. he turned around and saw a... thing... walking towards him. It looked like it was stright out of a nightmare. "Who are you, then?" Montague asked. the creature didn't answer, still creeping towards him. "Nevermind then. I'm sure you aren't able to answer anyway." The creature falls over, a knife stuck through it's skull. "I hope there are better enemies than that." Montague said, walking away from the beast. "I don't want to be bored on this adventure." Montague walks out of the village, looking at the world beyond.

Please read all of the important details.

Those that need to complete Heat 3
    - @HeroKP

Those that need to catch up before taking on Round 1:
    - @TezzeretofCarmot21 - Heats 2 and 3
    - @kandra127 - Heats 1-3

    Round One

You easily hold off the wraths, but your safety doesn't last. Suddenly, you hear a crash, and you're surrounded by similar beings. You're forced to flee as the meek among you are torn to shreds. It's all up to survival instincts now.

You run. Hide. And for only the strongest among you, you fight back, eventually having to stand down. As you flee, you come across other survivors. Whether you team up or not is up to you, but you hear a voice in your mind. A reminder that only one person, if anyone, can make it out alive. Each of you will face a unique challenge. It's up to you if you want to team up, stay separate, or fight each other.

    - @shadow123 @ASubtleGhost @HeroKP

Lilac's retreat leads her back down into the library, where she is swarmed. She flees down a staircase, passing by Yadgar without either of them noticing. Yadgar is in hiding, but one of the wraths find him, and he is forced to defend himself. The sudden dissipation of the wrath attracts more wraths, and Yadgar is forced to flee as well...

The two descend deeper into the library, neither of them getting close enough to notice each other, when Lilac's fleeing is interrupted by a run in with a sphinx. However, even this low in the library, there are still windows leading outside, and soon, even more wraths swarm in, stopping her escape. The merge into a single hatebound being, blocking the way as Yadgar arrives.

    image

All of you attempt to use your nullification spells again, but to no avail. The wrath only grows angrier as it approaches fast in a ball of flame and a cursed mist of hatred and violence.

Your bonus challenge: No nullifying effects (return to hand, tap, prevent damage, counter, etc.), as the Grudge Wrath is too hellbent to be affected.

    - @Credius @Schmoohawk

As you emerge from the safe cradles of whatever sheltered area you could find, both of you hear a noise near the bottom of a destroyed staircase. You move in, when you realize that you two aren't the only ones here, coming across each other and a gargoyle hellbent on survival.

    image

Bonus Challenge: No effects that say destroy creature/artifact, as the Gargoyle will just reassemble itself.

    - @IzItTru @Blazin_Biscuit

As you trudge through the marshy slop to stay alive, you notice a dark but bountiful clearing, seemingly free of hostile life. However, just as you reach the clearing, both of you trip, falling next to each other. You both turn to see a long snake coiling around you, and it's trying to eat you alive.

    image

Bonus Challenge: No creatures, as the snake will devour them and grow stronger.

    @Bowler218 @KorandAngels

You are both forced to flee, going south to avoid harm. You both reach the top of a mountain, encountering each other, You try to evaluate each other, when suddenly, a storm begins to form in front of you. You try to get to cover, but the storm forms quick enough to send you flying down the mountain, and you soon realize that the storm is alive.

    image

Bonus Challenge: No creatures, as they will get absorbed in the vortex.

    - @sanjaya666 @Xero0

As you flee through the castle, you try to fight off the wraths, but are forced down corridors, eventually, running into each other on accident, unaware of each other's presence. Both ends of the corridor meet at this point, turning towards a balcony, and you are completely surrounded. Left with no choice, both of you run to the balcony and jump off into the water below. However, you soon realize the water holds its own host of problems.

    image

Bonus Challenge: No red spells, as your access to red mana is scarce.

    - @JackDraco @Termite1

Both of you wander through the rock formations before stumbling across catacombs of an ancient civilization. You feel compelled to go inside, so you do. You realize that there was once an underground civilization here... what killed them? No matter the case, its citizens don't seem happy to meet you, as the ground begins to come alive.

    image

Bonus Challenge: No effects that destroy artifacts or lands, as there's always more of them.

    - @ouser94501

As you wander through the village, you notice the people acting strangely, as though entirely unphased by what's going on. You try to save who you can from an incoming swarm of wraths, but they won't budge, saying they have nothing to worry about. That this is "exactly as things were meant to be." In fact, your actions are actually drawing suspicion. Enraged by your refusal to accept your fate at the hands of the Wraths, the citizens take it into their own hands.

    image

Bonus Challenge - No violent noncreature spells (damage, destroy, etc.)

    - @Mantis17

As you slink through the market, one of the workers thanks you for your service to the market by giving you a bag of apples. Since it's the only food you have, you decide to eat one, and soon realize it's been poisoned...

...you wake up in a dark room, shackled to a ball with all of your belongings sitting in a corner. You realize that there is a locked door between you and your things, and a minute later, a rogue comes in. She plans to kill you.

    image

Bonus Challenge: No actions that you couldn't reasonably do without moving your legs (ex. A spell that grants buffs to creatures, since you would be the attacking creature.)

    CRITERIA
    - Must be a non-legendary card with CMC 4 or less against the encountered creature or phenomenon. Effectiveness is determined solely by score.
    - Each of you have a bonus challenge. Failure will result in a 3 point penalty to your score.
    - If you want to partner with a player you encountered, you can.
    - If you want to fight a player you encounter, declare so, mentioning them, and I will give you the rules for combat.

    The Deadline is November 22nd.

NOTICE: Anyone that does not complete a challenge on time will be eliminated for the sake of the other players. Players must be caught up by the deadline in order to advance.

This go round I'm actually judging. Against a nonplayer, you'll need 13 or more points. TO CLARIFY, YOU ARE NOT FIGHTING THE PLAYER YOU ENCOUNTERED.

    - 6 points for overall card balance
    - 5 points for realism, proper grammar and syntax, and the like
    - 4 points for following the color pie and the ideals of your color (combo). Instant fail if you use colors outside of your chosen three. (If you chose less than three, you may claim colors until you have three to use You can do this at any time.)
    - 3 points for proper rarity and difficulty (Overly basic cards will lose a point. Blatantly simple cards, such as vanilla creatures or far too dull effects [ex. Opt] on instants/sorceries will lose two,)
    - 2 points for fitting flavor and overall card feel
    - You can't resubmit cards you've already submitted in this contest
    - You'll lose two points if the card was not made within two weeks of this challenge start date.
  • no red spells as my bonus challenge?
I get why sanjaya would have that challenge, but my character doesnt have red in his identity so I kinda win that by default
did u mean blue instead? it's the color our characters share after all, so I'd assume
  • @tommia I think you may have glossed over some of the story. The village that Montague awoke in was long abandoned, therefore there shouldn't be any people in it. Sorry if this causes any inconveniences. if you want me to take the challenge anyway, just tell me.

@Xero0 I am well aware of this. This isn't a fight against them. Right now you are kind of working together, and fights are judged mano-a-mano with different criteria and separate cards

@ouser94501 (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ (I forgot that part. Even wrote it down so I wouldn't forgot. You can tell how that worked out...)
  • @ouser94501 As you scavenge for any resources you can find, you come across an old shack. While it appears abandoned, everything is in great order, and you're dehydrated, so you make your way in and help yourself to some water...

...your thirst is finally quenched as you gentle put the bucket back where you found it. You turn to leave, and-

    image

No sound. No trace. You can't even hear him breathing. The man blocks the doorway, and begins to utter an incantation of death.

Bonus Challenge: No instants or sorceries.
  • Well, guess I'll just kick off this heat than xD

It was rather annoying to be forced to flee and hide, especially for someone like Myrca, who had the blood of the great ancient dragons run through her veins. However, she had to admit that in the end, it was still for the better to be alive rather than just some half eaten corpse outside.

As she rose from her hiding place, she noticed she was not alone, someone else had been hiding near her position. Alas she was not given much time to think about this, as a strange, artificial looking creature seemed to be hellbend on taking her and this other stranger down. "Ugh...no rest for the weary, it seems," She sighed, mustering whatever mana she could gather to call upon some aid in the form of illusionary dragons from her home plane. Even if she had been beckoned to this new place, it didn't mean that she was left without a connection. "Learn your place, little gargoyle."

The merfolk in the river was indeed... troublesome and curious. Their appearance and behavior suggested that they are intelligent creatures, even he could see that they could perform complex communication with each other by using strangely distorted voices (probably due to being underwater) and a sort of sign language that the droid unaware of.

But the droid wondered why there was no real progress of technology in this world.

"Or perhaps this world is still undergoing the medieval age." The droid wondered.

And then one of the merfolk attacked him. With a literal pointed wooden stick. Despite suffered no real damage, the merfolk was also poven to be a slippery one as he couldn't retaliate the attack.

"I might need to install an underwater module later."

Luckily he didnt need to breathe while he was stumbling around underwater. And then he pulled something that aglow with blue-ish light from a hidden storage in his body.

    "Goodbye, annoying water dweller."

Then a sphere of distorted space with a hint of electricity engulfed the droid, and then he vanished.

@TezzeretofCarmot21 As you brave out the storm, your shelter begins to give way. Acid rain seeps in, wind blows past your face, and it seems like it'll collapse at any moment. But it will do...

    The next morning...

You wake up in an arid desert, with no shelter around you. How did you get here? You stand up, and realize that you are lying on the roof of your shelter, apparently all that remains of it. You gather your bearings, and defend yourself against a wrath attack, but little do you know that nature has something else in mind.

    image

    Bonus Challenge: No creatures.
  • ...Well that’s quite the pickle.
  • Brion stared down the snake, it let out out a hiss and reared back to strike but it never got a chance to. Without making a sound it collapsed to the ground.

Before the Mermaid could do any damage Mason created a bubble shield to protect himself and give himself room to breathe, now with time he examined his sorroundings, not long after, the agitated mermaid collapsed from the effect of the acidic waters and he could leave unattacked

    SUBMISSION FOR HEAT 3

As the wrath starts charging at Erixmethane, he suddenly has an existential crisis. And while he's not confident enough to kamikazee, he die! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm sorry for my reluctance to participate on time. Life started lifing and it didn't stop lifing. I promise to have my entry for Heat 4 be up in a few hours, and then to participate in every challenge since on time. Thanks for not booting me out so far, @Tommia. :)
  • @HeroKP Don't worry. While I want to keep the pacing fast enough for everyone, I don't want people to be kicked out just because they were busy (been there, done that).
  • @KorandAngels Please specify if it's an instant or sorcery.

P.S. I haven't had enough time to finish the next part of your story on Stitia. I am working on it, however.
