  • @ChoyBoi It's a little hard to judge balance, as the synergy with it is undefined. I think it's a creative design, so I'll leave a favorite.
  • @jicklemania2
I'm mainly trying to judge whether the mechanic is something I'd like to make more of, and so far no one has given me any feedback.
  • @jicklemania2 ; - Fair point on Lightblade Defender's problematic hexproof status. I guess what I would need to do is rework the card rule so it can still do what it's intended to do without technically being hexproof -- similar to how Helplessness operates on your Miskah concept (pretty cool, btw). I'm also okay with Child of Wrath hitting its own ravens considering it plays into the destructive flavor I had going for it, and considering it also exiles any non token it kills, I think the ravens being squishy is a fair trade-off, IMO.

@ChoyBoi: This bit of the Forestmorph mechanic is still throwing me off:
    {t}: Add {g} for {3}
Am I understanding correctly that you're getting 1 green mana for the cost of 3 colorless?

  • @KEdRuss
You pay 3 to cast it as a thing that taps to add a green. It's the same wording as with the morph mechanic.
  • @KEdRuss I suspect that you've read it slightly wrong (more accurately, I suspect that you haven't paid attention to the speech marks). You can pay {3} to play it as a Forest (like the lands) and the Forest will have "{T}: Add {g}." due to being a Forest.

On that vague note, I'd recommend to @ChoyBoi that you change up the reminder text wording just a little so that you play it as a a land rather than cast it. Lands aren't cast, normally, and there's absolutely no reason to warp that base gamerule here. While I'm not utterly certain what the wording would be, I feel safe in the assertion that this isn't currently correct for that reason.
  • @MemoryHead
I didn't think of that. Thanks a lot.

@jicklemania2 @ChoyBoi Sorry! That wasn’t me. I gave my cousin, @CallMeBob , my password by accident. That’s his card, not mine, and he’s new to Cardsmith, so I’m sorry he didn’t give you feedback, jicklemania. And now I’m going to go tell him to get off my profile. Also, ChoyBoi, I just saw your question about Protean. First off, I’ve changed the name to Charm for the future. Second, no. When the enchanted creature dies, the Charm card goes in the graveyard too.
  • @RandomFandom Ohhh ok lol. It's fine.
  • Tezzerets Rescue
    https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/tezzerets-rescue

Unfortunately, I don't have any art for this card, as I am not an artist. But I also didn't want that to stop me from making a card, so here it is.
  • @Obidiah if this can flicker planeswalkers at instant speed (with an additional loyalty point), I feel this needs to cost more to cast. Or have an additional rule where it would cost more to target planeswalkers.
  • @ChoyBoi I actually really like the idea of Forestmorph. It has really interesting implications with both other morph cards and cards that interact with lands. It would be weird to see it in a standard format, as land destruction might become meta if these cards become strong. I think this card is fairly balanced, as it requires you to build a decent amount of synergy for it to be strong, but is a good payoff for going for that synergy.

Here are two commander ideas I came up with. Give me some feedback, cuz I really like the ideas behind them!
    https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/agnate-metathran-general?list=set&set=56813

    https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/lovisa-balduvian-scourge?list=set&set=56813
  • @KEdRuss, Luminarch Gate could safely be 8 colorless. Most Mono-White Weenie decks, which is where this card shines, would struggle to make it worth the price or to get sufficent value with it, especially since it can be a very dead card in some matchups and is easily hated out as an artifact.

@RandomFandom , Protean Convictor is cool, and a top-notch card design in my eyes.

@jicklemania2, Mishka is cool and probably not overpowered.

@Obidiah , Tezzeret's Rescue could feasibly be 2 mana and at uncommon.
  • @KingSumples , Agnate is cool, although I do feel like it is outclassed by other commanders (Edric, Spymaster of Trest). Lovisa on the other hand I don't like for several dozen reasons; Boros being the weakest color combination in Commander makes this rather bad, the existence of Gishath makes it also seem underwhelming, and the fact that all you get is an underwhelming damage dealing effect which is rather hard to use efficiently, considering how most enrage enablers are one-offs. I mean, you can theoretically use this as a weird politics commander deck, but the only result of these politics is removal which isn't that interesting, and it misses out on the interesting non-R/W politics options of EDH.
  • @KingSumples I really Like lovisa, and can imagine she would be a fun card to play and keep board presence strong, and agnate is pretty good, but I bet it would possible for him to be a rare.

Here is a simple card from me:

  • @zizick123 , just to warn you in case you think it's how the card works, first strike does NOT affect fighting. Each will still deal combat damage to each other as normal, and first strike will do nothing.

Also, the card is extremely strange. Black doesn't have a single card that fights. New Black cards also generally doesn't get first strike unless it hates on white or is a Knight. In addition, Assimilate seems like a rather useless mechanic considering how "Morbid" exists as a mechanic.
  • edited October 2020
@zizick123 - Echoing what @Potato13 said, Assimilate is too similar with Morbid (... if a creature died this turn...) and mono black never makes creatures fight each other. First strike is also very rare in mono black, but it does show up now and then.

Also, the wording on the card is a bit ugly. Some letters are capitalized even though they should not be. The first letter of all creature types is always capitalized, but "Fungus" in the abilities is not. The order of the abilities is incorrect, as keyword abilities come before more unique abilities. The word "Assassin" is not typed correctly in the abilities, and the word "fight" is too close to the right border.

I'm also not a fan of leaving the artist uncredited. The image quality is quite bad as well. If you send me a link to the source where you found the image, I could try and find the original artist.

Here's my card. Post a constructive comment on it and/or favorite it before posting up to two cards of your own:

    Demon of Cravings
  • edited October 2020
@TenebrisNemo - I like it! I also love the Hellraiser-esque flavor. I also think adding flash to this wouldn't be terrible, since you're still paying for -1/-1, and it is still likely going to eat a spell once it ETB, anyway. Fav'd.

As suggested, two cards coming right up!

    Ysolda Seraph of Wills

I'm really interested in getting feedback on this next one, since it features an original mechanic: Reflect.

    Angel of Crystal Wings

    Rule:
Reflect (If this permanent is the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, you may copy that spell or ability and choose new targets.)
The example of how I see this mechanic in play:
    • You cast Angel of Crystal Wings. It resolves.
    • Opponent then responds by casting a spell like Murder on Angel of Crystal Wings. It still resolves and AoCW dies, but now you can copy and choose Murder on another creature.
  • '@KEdRuss , Ysolda seems actually fun. I'd love to make some sort of Naya Angels list for Modern with it.

As for Angel of Crystal Wings; I don't like Reflect. It feels very narrow as a mechanic and not capable of synergy or fun interactions (Unlike Hexproof, you can't play Bogles with it, it doesn't actually protect the card, and it relies entirely on what your opponent is doing.). The way it's worded, it can also infinitely copy a spell on the stack ("If this permanent is the target of a spell or ability on the stack..." instead of "When this permanent becomes the target...".), and if worded the other way that I'm suggesting, the card posted doesn't work. While the mechanic is simple, I find it a simple kind of boring and uninteresting in terms of design limitations and lack of fun interactions. Also, it's hellish for limited.
  • @Potato13 you need to post a card. You can't just give advice.
  • @KEdRuss

    Card 1:
Very strong for a 3 CMC, you need to add flavor, and there are a few MTG typos
    Card 2:
Reflect is a very strong ability, the last ability has a MTG typo, again, room for flavor.

  • @jaceberlin
Wavewood Fae is a cool idea. However, I feel it should be at least 4 mana, since exiling a card from hand is powerful, as is having a death trigger and a self sac that lets you draw a card. Not to mention it has good stats for 2 mana. The other thing, which is entirely an ascetic thing, it that the words are too close to the border, draw isn't capitalized, and there needs to be a period on the end of the second and third sentences. Finally, I wish you put this in small text because this would look way less squished.
Also, nothing in the rules says you have to post a card to comment. It only says you must comment before posting a card.

    Here's mine:
    Murk Waker
  • @ChoyBoi I don't know how I feel about this one. It seems rather odd, and I am not sure really where it could be played. It seems very niche and very conditional to have only certain creatures get only certain land walks. I just don't really see the use I guess.

    Here is mine:

    http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/malorns-champion

  • @zizick123
Malorn's Champion is a cool idea, but there are a few errors. I do not think something can be a demon imp, so it should be one or the other. "Trample, Flying" should be "Flying, Trample", and lastly, I'm not sure about the mechanic. Imps are not really a tribe, since there are barely any and no tribal support. This seems a lot like raid, except applying only to Imps. Also, if possible, please try to credit the artist.
    __

    Here's my two:
I'm just looking for feedback on the mechanics, both made by me.
    Dawnblade Champion
    Dreambinder Mage

  • @ChoyBoi i like both mechanics and both cards and they seem decently balanced. I would.want to give some.pointers but I.just don't see abything wrong with them other than the dash by hero.just seems a little.big too.me. Great work on the card ChoyBoi!
I hope you like. I couldn't confidently decide on reach counter or deathtouch counter. I'd love to hear what you think!
  • @KrakenSalad
The long dash format is what is used for those mechanics. If you look at cards with raid, they have the long dash.

    @KrakenSalad - I left a comment on your card

Here is my Card... I'm not sure about the P/T on this.... I feel it's possibly a bit high

    Leandra of Duskwood
  • @Corwinnn Cool card. I'd love it as a commander for an Illusion tribal. I also wouldn't say the power and toughness is TOO high but i could also see it beong a 2/3 or 3/2. But a 3 cost for a 3/3 with an ability that's balanced works good to me. Awesome work on the card and flavor text!
    https://mtgcardsmith.com/view/vulrun-arcane-harvester
The first card I feel like the mana cost is a bit low and was thinking of making it a 3 cost. As for the second card I was aiming for it to be group huggish and I tried go balance it by making exile or graveyard from battlefield instead leaving the field seeing as blink effects and all. Hope you guys like!
