  • Nice idea. Can’t decide the Iast stones though GL
  • Hey! Here's some food for thought. I won't go into the entire process of how to make a set, but I'll give you enough to get started:

From what I'm interpreting, your set seems to be a top-down design, where you have the story first, and then you make mechanics. I would say that before you make your whole set around the infinity stones and specific mechanics, you should think about what your set feel is going to be. Is it going to want the player to feel like a superhero/supervillain? Do you want to be searching for infinity stones? An example of this would be Kaladesh, which wanted the player to feel like an inventor. Giving a specific feeling will help you decide on what you will want your design space to be.

Your next step will be to create a list of themes that you want for your set. These will be things like heroes, villains, and infinity stones. This will help you when you want to create your mechanics so that they feel both thematically and mechanically correct. Sometimes a theme works better as a mechanic, and sometimes it works better as just a single card.

After you create a list of themes, you start going through those themes and experiment with how you could possibly turn them into mechanics. I'd recommend going through the process of creating your mechanics on the forums, so you can get feedback in the middle of the process. This does make it take longer, but it is very much worth it. Once you have a good group of 3-5 mechanics, you can think about what your archetypes will be.

    Some personal opinions:
    • I don't think that you should have factions based on infinity stones. I feel like it would make much more sense to have factions like S.H.I.E.L.D and Hydra and keep the infinity stones for legendary artifacts somewhere else in the set. Also, I don't think that you need each infinity stone to be a specific color (there are 6 infinity stones, and only 5 colors, which won't add up). Once you eventually get to the point where you are creating your rares or mythics (I'd recommend first creating commons first, then uncommons, rares, mythics), I would just look at what each stone does, and accurately represent their effects through the card's abilities.
    • I would recommend not tying Marvel lore into Magic's lore, just make your set exclusively Marvel-themed. Just recently, WotC announced Magic's Universes Beyond, which is going to be full sets and decks that are completely themed around other franchises, like Warhammer 40k, and Lord of the Rings. Response to this news has been very mixed because it means that magic will be sometimes breaking that fantasy setting that it usually has. I'd say that creating a Marvel-themed set with your own marvel lore and characters is fine, but I would stay away from tying in Magic's actual lore because it would feel awkward.
    • Nanda Hackamof seems to be based on Scarlet Witch. I think that you can just use the actual Marvel characters, rather than needing to create characters similar to existing ones. (I don't think Marvel would get upset at you for making fan content  ;) )
  • That's a lot of useful feedback! I would just need it to have a "Neither"  team or 3 other teams, thank you for the feedback!
