  I also haven't posted in forever, thankfully things haven't moved much/I haven't had anything specific to respond to or work off of really, so that makes me a feel a little better about it. But I do need to do some major writing if I want to stand a chance later.

  I didn't read Mowu's Wiki page until now, so my headcanon was that Mowu had some magic tether (or maybe in Mowu's case, a leash) that made them planeswalk whenever Yanggu did.

  Usually it's up to the writer. Akuma for example popped up from outta nowhere with no rhyme or reason. Likely a rift opened underneath her.
