Prophecy - Feedback and Suggestions Welcome!
Hi Guys!,
After creating about 50 or so cards, I wanted to try to make a whole set. The set name is Prophecy, the first in a 2 set block (the next one will be called Temporal Scrolls). The story takes place on the plane Dominaria after the events of the Time Spiral block took place. Here's the plot to catch you up on the storyline:
Dominaria is at rest, and is recovering from its various wars and planar rifts. Jhoira, one of the main characters returns to Dominaria at the request of one of her former students at the Tolarian Academy. The student discovered a mysterious artifact that becomes known as the Fatestone, only to discover that it held a foreboding omen. The artifact prophesied a dark future descending on the plane. A demon would rise at the hands of a necromancer and wreak havoc on the plane. Jhoira sent word to Teferi for help with the impending threat. Meanwhile, Liliana Vess returns to her home plane of Dominaria in search of Belzenlok, one of the 4 demons she made a pact with. Teferi returns to Dominaria fearing that the sealed rifts would break open again from the demon and runs into Liliana. He does not know her, as she left her plane at a young age, and she coerced him into finding the demon.
After waiting for Teferi for too long, Jhoira impatiently embarked out to find him, only to discover Teferi under Liliana's magic ripping open a rift to free the trapped demon from his imprisonment. The demon burst from confinement and in a rage stabs the bystanding Jhoira and flies off. Liliana, upset about the demon's lack of gratitude set off to catch up with the demon. Teferi who came to his senses amidst the chaos, stopped her from leaving. Blaming Liliana, Teferi convinced her that she should at least help Jhoira, then they would find the demon together. Jhoira was badly injured, but more at risk from the demon's corruption that was draining her spark. Teferi used some of his spark to heal her wounds, but couldn't stop the corruption. Teferi and Liliana helped Jhoira back to Ghitu, the realm she was born in, but Liliana fled afterwards to find the alone.
Teferi finds Liliana only just as the demon realized her motives of removing her curse and became enraged once again. Teferi saves Liliana by trapping the demon in a slow time bubble. As repayment for saving her, Liliana promises to help Teferi find a cure for Jhoira's affliction. As they arrive together in Ghitu though, Jhoira is dead and the plane breaks into a civil war.
There are 3 new mechanics in this set, but like the Time Spiral block, it uses many more keywords from previous sets. The new ones are Harmonize X(when you cast this spell, you may reveal X cards that share a color with it. If you do,________) and Solitude(as long as you only control one creature,________). I'm still trying to develop the third. In this set I plan to use Suspend and Buyback as major mechanics, and will splash in numerous other ones.
I will ask for ideas and fine-tuning of cards in this thread and will have a gallery of all the cards in my set, Prophecy. Please offer any advice, suggestions, or feedback you have. Anything is much appreciated!
