Tommia Set Challenge: One-Up

Be sure to read all of the rules, and make sure to respond to the latest valid entry!

Based on my past "Daily mini challenges: how will you respond?" contests and their younger cousins, here comes some fun...

It's time for the factions of Tommia to battle it out to see who will come out on top!

How it works:

- The first participant can submit the "tribal" card of their choice.

- After this, the next participant will have to make a card that can take care of the previous card. This will continue until I feel we have enough cards.

- The faction that performs the best wins!

See below for the factions and their mechanics.

Rules:

- NO COUNTERSPELLS OR MANIPULATION OF THE STACK!

- The card you make must be tribal to one of the five factions in some way.

- You cannot use colors other than the colors of the faction your card is for.

- Your response doesn't have to be "a response." For instance, the card you're responding to is a 1/1 vanilla. You can respond with a 2/2 with vigilance, a sorcery or creature that deals damage, etc.

- You cannot respond to a card with a card from the same faction as one of the last three entries. (Ex: Let's say the last three entries are for the Tetsuken, the Zankuno, and the Shiryozen. Your entry must either be for the Yunomare or the Yosuka.)

- You must explain how your response will neutralize the card(s) before it.

- You may respond with two cards, but they must be from the same faction.

- At least one of the cards you submit must be able to be responded to without a counterspell.

- If the previous entry is two cards, you can respond to one or both of them, but specify which.

- You cannot respond if one of your cards are within the last five cards, but you have an unlimited number of entries.

- Your card(s) must be able to deal with the card it's responding to, whether subtly (tap down, return to hand, etc.) or completely (destruction, exile, etc.).

- Try to avoid using your own mechanics unless they aren't faction specific.

- Try not to use too many non-evergreen keywords and abilities. Use them as you wish, but I don't want a repeat of last time where I had 50 something mechanics in the set!

- Your card needs to be balanced.

- You don't have to consider possible interference with cards from outside this set. For instance, don't fret that an MTG card and one of your cards might create an infinite loop.

- Avoid making cards with real people or known fictional characters for my set. Last thing I need is Tommia to be taken over by an army of John Cenas or one thousand Five Nights at Freddy's animatronics.

- Cards must at least be serious enough to be in a real MTG set. Don't think they'd approve a LOLCat, or a card that would allow you to destroy target player, but jokes and such are allowed.

- Do not make proxies. Originality, folks!

- Only submit cards you own. No anonymous entries, either!

- Plx us prpr grmr sntx. Please use proper grammar and syntax.

- Don't worry. I can fix misteaks mistakes.

- Sometimes, I may start a new round. Make sure to look in case I do!

- By putting cards on this page you agree to allow me to remake those cards, at my sole discretion, for my set. You also give me the right to make any changes to the card that I feel necessary. Credit will be given.

Prizes:

- All cards from winning faction: 2 favorites

- Top card from each faction: 3 favorites

- Top card: 5 favorites

- All satisfactory entries get a favorite from Tommia. Only cards from Tommia contests get a favorite from Tommia!

Factions and their playstyles/mechanics:

Yunomare:

Playstyle: Enchantment creatures and enchantments; often uses combinations of cards that work together, such as a creature and an enchantment that work together.

Colors: White/Black

Preexisting Mechanics: Bestow, Constellation, Enchantment Creatures

New: Imagination -- If you control an enchantment creature, [insert ability]

DO NOT USE IMAGINATION ON ENCHANTMENT CREATURES

Shiryozen:

Playstyle: Aggro control with minor mana-ramp; protect your creatures!

Colors: Blue/Green

Preexisting Mechanics: Megamorph, Manifest, Protection

(Courtesy of Mana_M0nger) Divulge (If this card is put face down as a 2/2 creature, you may turn it face up and cast it anytime for its mana cost.)

This mechanic is used for non-creature cards, namely instants and sorceries.

New: Spellveil (While this creature is face down, if a spell an opponent controls would target it, you may turn it face up.)

Zankuno:

Playstyle: Control and permission; cut off supply and keep permanent spells off the board.

Colors: Blue/Black

Preexisting Mechanics: Buyback, Flashback, Fateseal

"New" (Returning from the Earthrealm Set): Cyclemill # (At the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, that player puts the top # cards of their library into their graveyard.)

Tetsuken:

Playstyle: Control the battlefield with creatures and an Iron Fist; uses more legendary creatures and occasionally tokens.

Colors: Black/Red

Preexisting Mechanics: Battle Cry, Menace

"New" (Returning from the Hyperbase set): Notoriety (Whenever this creature attacks, if it wasn't notorious, it becomes notorious at the end of combat.)

Explanation:

Creatures with notorious almost always have an ability for when they become notorious. Some cards interact with notoriety, and sometimes, creatures may have the ability to remove their notorious status. This appears mainly on legendary creatures.

Yosuka:

Playstyle: Keep opponents on their toes; lots of hard-to-deal-with creatures, direct damage, tokens, direct damage.

Colors: Red/Blue

Preexisting Mechanics: Rebound, Populate, Dash

New: Thunderstruck -- (When this permanent enters the battlefield [in the case of a permanent]) If you dealt damage with an instant or sorcery this turn, you may copy that spell. Spells with Thunderstruck cannot be copied this way.

Dominant creature subtypes for each faction. Don't feel limited by these though:

ALL FACTIONS USE HUMANS!

NO SPIRITS! USE DREAMBORNE INSTEAD IF YOU WANT TO MAKE ONE!

Dreamborne creatures are always enchantment creatures!

Yunomare: Dreambornes are more prominent; Mages

Shiryozen: Anything related to green including elves, beasts, elementals and such; Shamans

Zankuno: Horrors; Rogues; Illusions; Shades; Mages, maybe zombies

Tutsuken: Rogues; some Goblins; some Minotaurs; warriors; maybe a Mage or two

Yosuka: Mages; Some Weirds; Drakes
