Suggestion

I cant see a category where you discuss site problems so i will just talk about it here. Is it slow for anybody else? it takes way longer to load then most other sites, and even when you successfully log in it says that your credentials were wrong? That doesn't stop you from logging in or anything its just confusing. The set feature seems to have been ignored, you cant set thumbnails for them and they no longer count commons, color etc. i also find it a little scummy to require premium to recover an unsaved card, I'm fine with the other monetization but that one seems wrong to me. Also the top cards only having like 1 upvote? there needs to be some incentive to vote on peoples cards, or maybe there just arent many people using this site...

Sorry if this post is annoying I just had to get it off my chest.

  • this is honestly not the place to voice concerns like this anymore, anyone who could make change in that field at all or even listen to it is long gone. I sympathize with your frustration though, and believe me the sight used to be so much better. But complain on the discord, not here. No one is left here but me.

Welcome to the dead site of MtgCardsmith, @wipitywap ! Here's a brief history of what has led to its current state:
    • The site hasn't had updates for years, old owner was too busy with other things, but the community was still active with members, contests, and challenges.
    • The site is sold to a new owner who promises new updates to the site and editor. Hype train leaves the station.
    • New owner slaps Proxy Shop links onto all card images of the site (Add to Print Order) and introduces AI image generator. Hype train crashes.
    • Veteran site users criticize the new updates. New owner throws a tantrum and bans their accounts and deletes their works of many years.
    • New editor is super slow and convoluted compared to previous one. Long-time members leave. (Check this last card made by theirintheattic: https://mtgcardsmith.com/user/theirintheattic/cards)
    • There are no new updates and fixes to the new site which people have been asking for. No admins seem to be present on forums or Discord; everything is radio silent.
Instead of loading all card images at once like before, this new site loads one card at a time, making each new page super slow.
Logging in or out is more complicated as you have to do it on the proxy store page. And you can log in with two accounts at the same time if you accidentally forget to log out with your previous account, forcing you to log out and log in again. Otherwise you'll see pages and cards which belong to the other account.
The reason you only see 1 upvote on top cards is just that: Not many users are left. And it's a chore to check out new cards to upvote because of the slow loading times. If you had joined couple years earlier, you'd see cards with dozens of upvotes (For example: - https://mtgcardsmith.com/user/TenebrisNemo/cards?page=2)
In short: This is the worst time for you to join this site. I suggest checking out other card editors if you still wanna make custom cards: https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/1drihap/best_make_your_own_card_site/

I hope your visit here will be brief and your creative card ideas will take form elsewhere!
  • Yeah, it's nothing like it once was. And don't bother going to the Discord. From what I understand, they don't want to hear about how sucky the website is
  • Anyone have any idea what niche the owners think they're filling at this point?  The site isn't the most user friendly, nor is it the most flexible, nor is it the easiest to shop proxies from, nor does it have the best community, nor does it have the best means of spotlighting user content, nor anything else I can think of.  I'd get letting other things fail if the site was clearly leaning into one specific focus, but it seems the current focus is to not stand out in anything.

Also, where is everyone else going to make custom cards now?
  • go onto websites like mtg.design and such
  • up to you tho
  • @Mellow_MC I know of other sites, just curious what other people are using, for those that still do that sort of thing.
