Make and Vote on Mechanics
Start by posting a Mechanic and an example of that mechanic with a card.
Then in the same post vote on your favorite and least favorite mechanic posted so far.
I will get things started.
Mechanic - Tempt
Wording - Each player draws a card. Then each player reveals a card from their hand in unison.
Other - After the wording are listed effects for the revealed cards.

My favorite and least favorite mechanic posted so far is Tempt. There aren't very many choices here. I'm leaning pretty strongly towards 'favorite', though. I really like the mind-games aspect of the mechanic.

Here's how I came up with this card... One night we were watching TV and a commercial came on for a game that has Kate Upton in it... she rides up all Braveheart style and says... you have nothing to fear except what's about to come out of those trees... after I stopped laughing, I made these two cards
What's in the Trees - http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/whats-in-the-trees?list=user#.VOc37ZU5DIU
And
Kate Upton, Lumberjack - http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/kate-upton-lumberjack#.VOc4i5U5DIU
Which I thought was funny... and then I changed What's in the trees to Dendrophobia to be more MtG flavored
Favorite... Dendrophobia
Least... Sorry, I have to say Tempt
XD
Wording - (This creature comes into play with a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to the number of lands you control; and has whenever you play a land card remove a +1/+1 counter from this creature.)
Other - Cards with Earthbound have smaller mana costs, but are better if played later in the game.

http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/guard-of-the-everwood?list=user#.VTsxoPnF9RQ
Favorite so far - Finale (Beeswax)
Least Favorite - Dendrophobia (Corwinnn) - I feel it is to close to intimidate.
Kind of like Morbid, but sometime you can't get a benefit from an opponent's creature dying. I had the mechanic on a card with the exact same name, but I'm not sure what happened to the original.

Favorite - N/A
Least favorite - N/A
I'll wait till more people submit their entries.
Against Odds - Whenever ____ enters the battlefield, if it is the only creature you control, put a ______ creature token on the battlefield.
Examples: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/shineguard-scout-2#.VTuLC9K4SPs
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/shineguard-guardian-2#.VTuLdNK4SPs
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/silver-rose-mystic?list=user#.VTuL8NK4SPs
Pretty much it is created to increase numbers when you have little or none. I figured it is balanced since you need to have an empty battlefield to benefit.
Favorite: Finale (Beeswax). I like it since it adds control and can keep someone on their toes by playing mind games.
"You have nothing to fear, except what's about to come out of those trees." -Kate Upton
I think you can reference someone other than Upton. Like Multani.
The mechanic is Wisdom, which allows you to draw a card when the card with wisdom taps.
Here is my example: Karma Avatar, a legendary creature from one of my personal planes.
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/karma-avatar?list=user#.VTuyN3D3arU
And here is the rules card:
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/rules-card-wisdom?list=user
My favorite would probably be Earthbound. Super cool.
My least is probably Against Odds. It seems strange and hard to implement effectively.
Who is Multani
Wording - If a creature you control blocks alone, it gets +1/+0 and first strike until end of turn.
Other -Will most likely be put on lands only.
Examples -http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/domla-desert-island-1?list=user#.VTu99vD1C70
Favorite: Earthbound.
Least Favorite: Dendrophobia
Wording - If this creature has the largest combined power and toughness on the battlefield [something]
Example:
1) http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/herd-sentinel?list=user#.VTvCEYJdU8o
2) http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/trench-angler-2?list=user#.VTvCI4JdU8o
Note: I'm considering changing the Foodchain abilities to trigger if you control THE creature with the largest power/toughness on the battlefield, rather than if THIS creature has the largest power/toughness
Favorite mechanic posted here: Finale (by @Beeswax). At Beeswax has probably got the best custom mechanics overall of any designer on this site. AustimSmith has some great ones too though.
Wording- This creature shares the same activated abilities as other creatures you control with collective.
Other- Mainly Creatures
Examples: http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/goldshrine-dragoons?list=user http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/daryun-the-knight-in-black?list=user http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/collective-consciousness?list=user
@Victator very neat Mechanic. I would maybe make it a triggered ability that if a creature you control blocks alone _________ happens. This way you could have a variety of different effects. I really like it though, it is like the defencive version of Exalted.
Wording- When this creature enters the battlefield, exile anther target creature. Its owner may pay its mana cost at any time to return it to its owners hand.
Example-http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/warden-of-the-death-row#.VTwNHCFViko
I don't want to vote.
Compulsory Contrition

Ephemeron Sprite
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/ephemeron-sprite?list=user#.VTwezmTBzGc
Wording - (Just to let you know, this is a mouthful.) At the beginning of your upkeep, you may pay X and tap this creature. If you do, at the beginning of your next upkeep, this creature gets (Something) until end of turn.
Other - This is used somewhat like suspend, in the way that it will be worded Impend, and then a cost.
Examples -

http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/gulariled-serpent-of-death?list=user#.VTwjFPD1C70
This is an sorcery that gave me the idea for the mechanic. It's of my own design as well:
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/charge-power?list=user#.VTwjQfD1C70
Vote:
Favorite: really tough to do this, but I have to say Food chain, as it's really different, but could definitely be seen on a magic card.
Least Favorite: Collective. It's just a bit to over powered, and also is pretty much a replicate of slivers. This said, I still like it, it could just use some improvement.
Whenever this creature attacks, place a +1/+1 counter on it. When there are X number of +1/+1 counters on it, it becomes pressurized. (and no longer receives +1/+1 counters)
The creature may gain an effect when it becomes pressurized.

Mechanic - Wisdom
Wording - The effects of Spells and abilities that target this creature temporarily remain until it leaves play.
Other - Things such as gaining +1/+1, or Keyword abilities until end of turn become permanent.
Examples - http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/oracle-of-the-coast#.VTxlAvnF9RQ
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/learn-from-the-past-1#.VTxlUvnF9RQ
======================================================
Mechanic - Planergaze
Wording - Until end of turn, Target Creature gains the Keyword ability of another Target Creature.
Other - Keywords are things such as Flying, Deathtouch, Landfall.
Examples - http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/apostle-of-the-infinite#.VTxlcPnF9RQ
http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/glimpse-the-planes?list=user#.VTxlwvnF9RQ
Not quite the same but http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/gira-upholder-of-all?list=user#.VTxl0PnF9RQ
Mechanic - Entrap
Wording - When (Creature with Entrap) enters the battlefield, you may choose a creature. As long as (Creature with Entrap) is on the battlefield, the chosen creature cannot attack or block, it's activated abilities cannot be activated, and it has shroud.
Other - I'd love some feedback on how to shorten the wording a bit.
Examples - http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/spindle-mech?list=user#.VTxm0vD1C70
Vote:
New Favorite HAS to be Wisdom. It's very well worded, right to the point, and pretty dang awesome.
Least Favorite is still collective. Sorry.
Mechanic - Paradox
Wording - Exile this spell as it resolves. Put a token that is a copy of this creature onto the battlefield. At the beginning of your next upkeep, put this card onto the battlefield.
Other - It would only ever appear on creature cards. The creatures I've made so far with this ability have all been legendary. The creatures ideally have enter the battlefield triggers but I think there are other ways this mechanic could play out too.

Vote- My favourite is Pressurize!
My least favourite is Territorial.
Honourable Mention - Entrap! I really love this ability, I think it might just better it if it weren't a mechanic but just a cool ability of a particular creature instead.

And here is an example:

Dang, Lonevvolf, you came up with a Wisdom too? I think yours might be better than mine...
And I had been thinking about making a Collective. Jeez, these must not be very original ideas.
My new favorite might be Pressurize. I feel like that on an artifact creature rocks both as a mechanic and flavor wise.
Here is my example
