Epic cards, many rulings, mostly inspired

Okay, so let's go over this contest.
Everyone is allowed up to 2 entries, it would be good if you put them in a single post(you can edit it as much as you want)

In this contest, you make a card that is difficult to explain, may have many rules you need to add to it in the comments or is all-around full of possibilities.

If you draw inspiration from a card or multiple cards, just post them, if any of the rulings apply it will be easier to understand your card.

Currently, on gatherer, Sorin Markov(1st place), Karn Liberated(2nd/3rd place) and Lichs Mirror(3rd/2nd place) have the most rulings/ most words in their rulings.

Prizes:
1. I will look at ALL of your cards and choose any number of favourites from them, at least 2(and your entry)
2. I will favourite 2 of your cards (and your entry)
3. I will favourite 1 of your cards (and your entry)
I might favourite other entries I like as well.

Ending this contest on the 5th of April... or if there is not enough people posting on the 10th.

Here's a card that I made that could be in this contest http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/otherworldly-mirror

Note: If there has been a similar contest I would like to know.
Note2: You can use cards made for other contests or other cards, but you must add a comment about rulings to them.
Note3(Edit 1): It would be good if the cards were balanced and playable.
Note4(Edit 2): I would prefer a comment of your rulings on the given cards site(not the forums) but if you dislike making a Disqus account, I'll just post your rulings from here on the card itself. We can then talk through Pm's to fine-tune the rulings so they are more comprehensive.

    1. If you copy a card with cycling, grandeur, or similar in-hand abilities, these can be used
    2. If the copy a card like clone that was a copy of another card, you do get those characteristics copied, not just the clone card
    3. Like all forecast cards, the card must remain revealed during your whole upkeep, even before the ability resolves. It must then be kept revealed for the remainder of the turn due to the ability's effect.
    4. Like a few other cards, this card does not have a mana cost. It also does not have a type.
    5. If this card becomes a copy of something with a mana cost and type, you can cast it (or play it if it is a land). As it goes onto the stack, and/or resolves and enters the battlefied, it continues to be a copy of the chosen card.
    6. Like instants or sorceries, if this card ends up on the battlefield (and is not a copy of anything), it is put into the graveyard as a state based action
    7. If it is put into a graveyard or exiled, or put on top of your library while a magus of the future is in play, it continues to be a copy since it is still revealed. If it is put into your library, returned to your hand, or exiled face-down, it will no longer be a copy.

    The Forgotten One
    http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/the-forgotten-one-10

Flavorwise, I based it off of Arcanis the Omnipotent, since I was trying for an enigmatic feel and Arcanis fit the bill perfectly (notice how the only creature type is warrior).

--> First entry from Biblio, I laughed x)
  • Biblio doesn't have THAT many cards... just like 254
  • @Mendus
You just checked here - http://mtgcardsmith.com/user/Biblio2
but you have to check here - http://mtgcardsmith.com/user/Biblio1
    and here - http://mtgcardsmith.com/user/Biblio
    for ALL of Biblio's cards
  • Reality Splicer

And a card that probably breaks most rules in some fashion:
    Spell Inhabitation
  • I just realized two of the entries for different people are named reality splicer... and their effects are quite different.

This card was designed, as its name implies, to be unchanging. It is essentially impossible to remove from the battlefield once played.
    Godiel, Eternally Immutable
    image

It has hexproof and indestructible, already an incredibly potent combination. In order to make it truly untouchable I gave it solitary, a mechanic I made for a set I'm slowly working on that is sort of the inverse of hexproof. Instead of preventing it from being targeted by enemy spells and abilities, it can't be affected by untargeted spells and abilities (so a Doom Blade would kill a normal Solitary creature but a Wrath of God wouldn't). Then to top it off, you can't be forced to sacrifice it.

It should probably cost a bit more even though it is a 0/3 defender because I don't think there is any way for an opponent to remove this card from your board once you play it.

The rules text I defined for solitary: Spells and abilities that would affect all or each permanent of any of this permanent's types do not affect this permanent. This includes effects that would affect all permanents.
  • @Dodgerer
Ya, we both made our cards for the same contest. One of the rules was, "It must be named Reality Splicer" haha!

    1) If a spell or ability gives this card flash and there are still spells on the stack when the game restarts, those spells return to their owner's decks.
    2) It doesn't matter how a card was exiled. As long as it's in exiled, it can't be resolved in the new game.
    3) If a card would return from exile and there are no cards with the same name in exile, that card can be cast.
    4) You must follow all the normal rules when casting a spell with the same name as a card in exile. Only when it would resolve do the effects of Rewrite the Universe take place.
    5) If the spell causes something to happen the moment it is cast, that effect still occurs. The spells still count as cast, and effects like prowess still trigger.
    6) If a new card is exiled during the new game, spells with the same name as that card can no longer be cast as long as that card remains in exile.
  • for me i add only one card for now, maybe if it is done then, i will add the other one

  • I need some help thinking of any of the many rulings this one may need...

    Consuming Penumbra
    http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/consuming-penumbra?list=user
  • @Dodgerer dont you want to change replay for one of your other cards? it seems like the winning one
  • Anything counts, but try making rulings for it, that make clear things that might not be clear+ interactions with specific cards.

Things that have the most rulings, most possible problems in the game that aren't taken into account with just the text, but can be induced are what I'm looking for.
  • Contest ending in two days, any more entries are appreciated
  • Last 5 hours before This contest is closed, expect results on friday/saturday depending on your time zone.

Not going to be online at midnight.

    http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/infinite-fluctuation?list=user
    1. If a player controls another player's permanent, he or she still shuffles that card into his or her own deck.
    2. A land creature will be put into the graveyard instead
    3. If a player controls no nonland permanents, nothing happens
    4. All cards put onto the battlefield are immediately placed onto the battlefield. They are not cast and cannot be countered.
    5. All noncreature spells placed onto the battlefield this way are exiled instead.
    6. Yes, that means planeswalkers, enchantments, and artifacts (noncreature artifacts) are all exiled.
    7. Land cards placed onto the battlefield this way stay on the battlefield.
    8. Creatures put onto the battlefield this way still abide by the legend rule
    9. These creatures are not cast, therefore abilities that say "Whenever a creature is cast" do not trigger, however abilities with "Whenever a creature enters the battlefield" do still trigger.
    9. Emblems are not removed (common sense)
    10. Creatures put onto the battlefield this way still have summoning sickness
    11. All cards that actually enter the battlefield this way (so anything but noncreatures) enter the battlefield simultaneously.
    12. If a creature card has "When this creature enters the battlefield..." and the stated effect deals with creatures, nothing happens
    13. The cards that are put onto the battlefield are not revealed. Abilities that say "Whenever a revealed card..." do not trigger.
    14. Creature spells with X in the mana cost have an X value of 0
    15. The effect of Infinite Fluctuation occurs before other spells on the stack. Creatures or other spells on the stack at the time Infinite Fluctuation resolves remain on the stack, and resolve once all noncreature cards enter the battlefield.
    16. Legendary Enchantment Creatures- Gods are not exiled. They are considered a creature when they are in your hand or library.

That's all the problems I can think of

    Tibalt, Fortune Embraced

    1. Tibalt's [-8] only effects the person by the total of what they exiled, not the total of all players cards. I exile four lightning bolts, I take 4 damage, doesn't matter what everyone else exiled.

    2. Tibalt's [-8], the damages source is Tibalt but I had no space to notate that.

    3. If you cast one of the cards from Tibalt's [+2] then it is no longer considered "exiled with Tibalt" for the purposes of his [-3].

    4. Tibalt's [+2] exiles three cards, then you declare whether or not you will cast one. After this has been decided you select one at random. If you can't cast the one chosen at random it remains in exile.

And all kinds of other rule thingies.
  • 1. Replay, by @dodgerer, although he had it as a bonus card, he actually only wrote rulings for it, also it seemed more useful than his other two cards. Now, this card had by far the most rulings and only about two seemed unnecesary with some maybe missing.
    2. Rewrite the Universe by @M15CardMaker, just by comparing it to Karn, it would have a lot of rulings and could be useful although it has a high cost.
    3. Spell Inhabitation, by @Faiths_guide even though there haven't been many rules written to this, it would create a lot of bugs with things that have other don't put into graveyard but somewhere else, and many of the same problems as opalescence.
    4. The Forgoten one by @Connor2001 I personally don't like this card that much because of its randomness but I have to admit that its fair and pretty good, along with having a pretty difficult to define structure.

    Some honorable mentions:
Super adaptoid, It didn't get picked because it is very weak, I mean incredibly weak, and so it gets an honorable mention.
Infinite Fluctuaitions, this seems like a weaker rewrite the universe and uses very similar things.
and Fabios Reality Splicer, as I really like the card but feel like it needs a card type for graveyard purposes.
  • Thanks to everyone for participating, also, Faiths Guide, you already had 2 entries, notably i didn't much care because I like looking at difficult cards.

and we can close the thread
