Italics and mana symbols

I noticed that when creating a card, putting a mana symbol like {2} within a section that is marked with < i > italics < /i >, the {2} displays as plain text instead of the desired symbol. Is there a workaround for this? Starting and stopping italics before and after the mana symbol creates an unintentional paragraph...
