Circuit Contest 7: Sometimes being behind is being ahead.

Want to win imaginary internet points? Great! You've come to the right place!

How to win said points? Well - It's like create a card in Red, Black or Blue that features a catch-up mechanic. Good examples of these are "Avatar of Might" or "Timely Reinforcements". Catch-up mechanics have mostly been seen in white, with a bit in green, but for this contest, I want you to make one in another color. How does red "catch up"? What can one do to catch up other than put tokens down or gain life?

Section 1 - Rules and contest guidelines.

The rules are simple, and are as follows:

1st Make a card with a catch-up mechanic in any combination of UBR colors. Linvala, The Preserver is a recent printing that is a good example of this effect.

2nd - You may submit up to two cards. You may remake as many times as you please. You are encouraged heavily to fix mistakes. Cards will be treated AS IS and not as COULD BE.

3rd - Only new cards. Cards have to be made explicitly for the purpose of the contest. This is to prevent people from submitting formerly favourited cards

4th - Post entries in a set. This is in order to prevent remakes from becoming spammy. Whenever you remake, remove the old card and add the new card. The set link stays the same.

5th - "WotC-like" art only. Anything that looks like it could've been printed in the past 5 years or so is acceptable.

6th - Not a rule, just a some advice: Don't rush your cards. Don't rush to post ASAP. Every card entered will be seen and considered. Take your time to find fitting art.




Section 2 - Prizes.

The main change to prizes is that I am no longer offering my services to anyone specific. All prizes will now be dispensed in mini-circuit or circuit points. I am, however, reopening my thread here: Card prognostics thread!

1st place: Two circuit points.

2nd place: One and a half circuit point. (Half a point?)

3rd place: One circuit point.

4th place: Half a circuit point.

Reminder: CARDS take the spot, not CARDSMITHS. This means you can potentially take both 1st and 2nd spot. Or 3rd and 4th.

Section 3 - What is a circuit contest?.

Much like a real "circuit", such as the one our Pros in MtG play in or that F1-drivers compete in, you participate in a bunch of individual contests that rack up points over time. People with the most points at the end of each "circuit" participate in some kind of special contest and are crowned winner of the circuit for that period. It's basically just a cardsmith league.
Basically: The more you participate, the more points you are likely to build up. The contests run from week to week and consistency in participation will be key to come out ahead.
That said, missing a contest or two is no catastrophe and that is the beauty of the circuit!

The circuit is basically just a really big "bragging rights"-contest.

Subsection 3a - How does the circuit work?

Beginning from today (12th of May, 2016) a contest will be posted on the morning of each Thursday. This will continue for 4 weeks, aka, until four contests have commenced. Once those four are done, a "monthly" contest will be posted. This contest will last 3 weeks and will be posted two days after the most recent weekly contest is done. A monthly contest is a bigger contest that will give contestants more time to consider entries - Monthly contests require more "complete" cards and a tougher/narrower ruleset will apply. If this is all a little confusing, don't worry; More details will follow the actual monthly contest thread.

Subsection 3b - Can we enter our own contests into the circuit?.

Of course! I hope more people will do so! I cannot make enough contests on my own and if the only contests in the circuit are judged by me, there will be an obvious bias and a lack of diversity... in the long run. I will "purge" the rankings now and then, but I will get to that by that time.
Basically, feel free to add your contest to the circuit!

Here are some guidelines to hosting a circuit contest:
- As a circuiteer, you have to allocate a total of four points per contest. You may distribute these points as you wish, but in no smaller amounts than half points and with no more than a total of two points given to the same person.
- You may host one contest into the circuit every 2nd week.
- Once your contest is over, let me know how you distributed the points and I will add them to the official countings.

Simply: PM me, link me to the contest you want to be part of the circuit and fulfil the minimal requirements.

Basic requirements (These must be met for the contest to be accepted into the circuit):
- At least 1-week duration.
- Must have at least 5 individual cardsmiths participate.
- Must have the 3rd rule in its ruleset, detailed above.

I will "quality check" each contest submitted. Nothing major, just to make sure we hold ourselves to a minimal standard - Any contest made with half a care will enter easily.


Judge recruitment

I am still looking for another judge. Anyone are welcome to trial as a judge. Especially people that have already trialed once! (Hint hint.) - To be a judge, you need to have a Reddit (Click me to sign up) account. I use this website to catalogue entries and to make communication on single entries easier. Reddit accounts are free and come with no strings attached.

As a co-judge, you are allowed to participate in the contest(s). You are just not allowed to vote for your own card.

Co-judges are expected to be available during the week of the contest to talk cards over. Judges should refrain from giving too much "direct" advice to a participate - Point out formatting flaws and obvious flavour-issues and such, but try not to get too involved as it has a tendency to make people unintentionally change their cards more to the likings of the individual judge.
Bonus points if you are open to actually TALKING about the cards on a voice-service (I own a Teamspeak server, for example), but it is not a requirement. I will, however, pick people that are open to this. DomriKade and I had a great time during the last contest and it was so much less time consuming. Strongly adviced!
