I was aiming for one card per mechanic but sod it, it's 00:07 in the morning of the closing date and, well i just think i've gone a bit overkill.

    @Tomigon , @Corwinnn

I have some proposed tweaks for three of the mechanix. I'll follow each of them with why/what I think. (I put them in alphabetic order.) Have a look and entertain the thought. ;)

    - Animosity (This creature deals and is dealt damage to and by creatures in the form of +1/-1 counters.)

Just a small tweak, because Animosity breeds Animosity, and that's how it spreads. If you hit someone with animosity, you will spark it in them as well. Why is there animosity if it is dealt damage from an non-creature source - like Pyroclasm?

    - Hunt (If this creature is unblocked, you may have it assign its combat damage to a creature defending player controls.)

After a word with @Platypusburger, I realized that Trample is just too good with Hunt, and it doesn't fit the flavor of hunting down a creature from behind the lines, with the extra damage that might trickle through to the opponent.

I personally like that it can hit Shroud and Hexproof creatures, because you still have to attack through potential blockers in order to get to them (Shroud doesn't make them invisible), but if people feel it's way too strong, you can always change the "to a creature" <-> "to target creature".

    - Temper N (This creature gets +X/+X, where
X is N minus the number of cards in your hand.)

    My explanation is:

The higher the temper, the less the tolerance for missing cards.

A number makes it easier to follow. Otherwise you see the word "Temper", and then have to dig up the mechanic rule (for when there is no flavor text), to remember if it was 3 or more, or less... or was it 4? :-/

With a number, you automatically give it +N/+N, then subtract the number of cards in your hand.

Makes it easier to remember, and also makes the mechanic less restricted. Otherwise, the most a creature could ever get is +3/+3.

  • am i alright to leave the cards i've posted with those abilities the same, because i like them like that?
  • @Blazin_Biscuit - yes... yes you are!!
  • yay, don't have too remake loads of cards!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :D
  • @Cryptonight
You are genius.. feedback like that is greatly appreciated! That's what we are interested in, and one of the reason we started this contest. You can use your versions!

Here are my thoughts about your ideas:

    -Animosity
I still prefer original version. I think that's the matter of whether you like "animosity breeds animosity" or not. Also I think it is fine to get +1/-1 from non-combat damage. But I understand why you think your version is cool from your text.

    -Hunt
Very neat rewording. But there are a few things I think I need to say.
First version of hunt's wording was very similar to yours. But I realized; if you are playing multiplayer game, when you declare the attack, all of your opponents are defending players. With your wording, if you attack player A, you have an option to hunt player B's creature. I didn't like that happens, so I fixed the wording. So my version needs to say "that player controls", and "unblocked" was too simple, unfortunately..

I kinda relieved that you like that it can hit Shroud and Hexproof creatures. Hahaha.. Because replacing "to a creature" with "to target creature" isn't possible. Current version of Hunt is a static ability. Static ability doesn't target anything.

Btw.. one small thing : Is "instead" necessary?

    -Temper
That totally makes sense! I think I'll update my card that used Temper!

    --------------------------
I say this again : As long as the concept isn't changed, you can fix the wording/mechanic like @Cryptonight did. Actually I like to see that. You don't get minus point because of that.

I really want to see how @Cryptonight's versions of mechanics are used, but unfortunately, today is the deadline.. But if you have tweak idea for the mechanic, please leave a comment on the TheMechanix set's cards.

Judging has begun.. no more entries please!
  • @Tomigon Yep, you were right
  • It's time to announce the winners!

    Honorable mentions

"Last of the Battalion" by @seaspray4TF3
    http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/last-of-the-battalion?list=user
^Power, flavor, art, everything about this is elegant. It's a great piece of an art! But I wanted to pick a card that has more creativity in the ability as a winning card. Sorry. But the simplicity of this card is making it such beautiful. I like it a lot!

    "Hidden Outcast" by @Blazin_Biscuit
    http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/hidden-outcast?list=user
^Before the thoughts about the card, thanks for tons of submissions Blazin_Biscuit! I'm very glad you enjoyed this contest. Your cards tend to be overpowered. I think Hidden Outcast is the most balanced card among your cards. Nice work!

^It seems balanced and useful in limited, I think. Sorry, that's all thoughts about this. Hahaha, great work Faiths_Guide, as always!

    - 3rd place!
    "Price of Pride" by @seaspray4TF

    http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/price-of-pride?list=user
^It's a bit overpowered, but I really like the idea! I didn't expected that this use of weave is coming!

    - 2nd place!!
    "Living Hill" by @milanaarz

    http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/living-hill?list=user
^It's simple, but I think it's very well balanced. Also, props for the idea of putting alternate cost to the landmorph!

    - 1st place!!!
    "Elvish Tracker" by @Cryptonight

    http://mtgcardsmith.com/view/elvish-tracker-1?list=user
^3 custom mechanics on a single card! Hahaha, this is why keywords are needed. They are all harmonizing in one card very cleverly. Imagining how it fights is like seeing fantasy action movie. But I must say, it is close to the op side, but I think it doesn't reach to the banned level. Great card!

    -----------------------------

Thanks to all participants! The entries were more than I expected, and it was really fun to see such creative cards coming from you. Some might afraid of breaking the color pie by using a costume keyword. But I think good custom keyword mechanic can explain a reason that your cards don't need to be bonded in MtG tradition. It's always fun to see new custom keyword mechanics created. Keep up the great works everyone. If you want my feedback about your card, feel free to send me PM or reply to my disqus comments. Thanks again to all! The next Mechanix contest will be opened by @Corwinnn (in a few days I guess?). So please check that out and I hope you enjoy that as well!
  • Congrats to all winners!
