Hunters of Tarkir/ War on the Stars

This is basically a crossover card set, between the present Khans/ Dragons sets and the predator movie series, where the Yautja have found Tarkir, and marvel at the Ferocity and Grandeur of the plane, and resolved to stay and hunt, 5 tribes appeared that parallel the khans that embody the components that make up a hunter

Instinct: Temur/Atarka
Honor: Abzan/Dromoka
Cunning: Jeskai/Ojutai
Deception: Sultai/Silumgar
Bloodlust/ferocity: Mardu/Kolaghan

  • First thing I usually do is come up with Legendary Creatures and Planeswalkers that are the driving point for the set. This is a topdown designed set so the story influences the mechanics as opposed to the mechanics influencing the set. From there design mechanics for each tribe and then you have a basic guide to designing the rest of the set

  • Mechanics of Hunters of Tarkir

    Challenger: An aggro centric mechanic, whenever the creature with challenger destroys creatures it deals damage to, you put +1/+1 counters on it equal to the Challenger number

    Brtualize: another aggro centric mechanic, whenever the Brutalize creature is block the blocking creature gets -1/-1 counters equal to the Brutalize number

    Subjugate: a more strategic mechanic, it works like exploit. When the creature enters the battlefield, remove +1/+1 counters equal to the subjugate number to activate the effect
