Once there was a necromancer who lived in a hut by herself. Every day, she would go to the graveyard to see those passed away. Her magic could only keep the dead alive for a half hour, and it would take 5 or 6 hours to get strong enough to bring the dead alive. She would chat with the deceased, but she got lonely when she was healing. So, she put her cloak on and rushed to the city. She was about to buy a tiger to keep her company from a shady dealer, but found a black cat on the street instead (Thirin). She brought the cat home. It took a long time for the cat to accept her. Once Thirin started to really warm up to her, the necromancer died, leaving Thirin alone. He started to grow more, until he was the size of a puma. Then, one day, like all cats, he died. But when he died, he was blessed by Ephara to become a spirit. He now wanders around as a spirit, as no one can see him, but he attacks people who cast spells. Whenever he is awoken by a spell, he will summon other spirit cats to attack with him. All who are attacked by him turn from wizard to blacksmith. So far they are all too afraid to cast a single spell again, in fear of getting their face ripped off (It has happened 3 or 4 times).

A rarity amongst dragons, Felvara was a hellkite born with the aspects of a hydra, namely the two additional heads. Despite having three seperate heads, they all act perfectly as one entity. Felvara was born shortly after the fated battle between Ugin and Nicol Bolas, while Ugin remained in slumber the still active storm birthed the mutated monstrosity shortly after their chaos ending. Unlike other broods, Felvara was rogue and pillaged khans of their treasures. Since she was alone she did not get within any large confrontations with the khans, nor making contact with the dragonlords and their broods. Instead she eventually founded an abandoned settlement, and would store her stolen treasures there. As the dragonlords and khans merged, For her own safety Felvara remained dormant within her new territory, slumbering away. However if any creature, be a human or dragon, disturbs her rest, her wrath will show no bounds.

Swanova is a mystical dragon native to the outskirts of Tarkir, where rogue dragons and other hellkites reigned free of the dragonlords and their broodlings. Here contact with other intelligent creatures were few, if any. Swanova taught the wild dragons there peace along with their destructive tendecies, becoming a protecting sovereign of them should any outsider bring them harm. Swanova's unique wisdom and form amongst the lesser dragons gave him leadership. Upon his blessings, many of his dragons evolved to his infamous Angelic Dragons:and jungle tyrants. Unlike the Dragonlords, Swanova is not as elderly, and does not command any races other then the lesser dragons he considers his children. His Isolationist attitude along with the distance between him and the now regions claimed by the Dragonlords are enough to prevent his swarms from being known.

The Shrikes are a species on the plane of Lyria, a world where mana is unique in the Multiverse - fluctuating, unpredictable, almost alive. From their sky-perch known as the Roost, the female-dominated Shrike civilisation raids the lands of the plane's other inhabitants, using their black, blue and white magic to steal the spells of their enemies. A prideful and haughty race, the Shrikes hold especial disdain for the humans of Ulthin, who they consider feeble children.
Enter Lathomir - a Shrike unique among the males, in that he has climbed his way high into the court of the Roost. He has witnessed first hand the depraved and decadent society the lower Shrike classes slave to sustain, and was sickened and disgusted by the corruption he saw evident. In a sudden move, he defected to the humans the Shrikes so despised, waiting for the moment the Roost's society imploded and collapsed, so he could create a new, better one from the remains.
