Whenever Guards of the Consul is blocked, the blocking creature's controller may return Guards of the Consul and the blocking creature to their owner's hands.
The wording is a bit off.
Considering this is a 1/4 with Defender, I'm supposing you meant:
Whenever Guard of the Consul blocks a creature, that creature's controller may return Guards of the Consul and the other creature to their owners' hands.

EDIT: Maybe my suggestion would better suit the -8? Or fine as is?
