Exypnos was born on a barren, remote plane, into the leadership of a group of rowdy dragons. He was known by many as "The Peacekeeper," which makes sense considering his talents for using magic to pacify others. He used his powers originally to keep the more bloodthirsty dragons in his clan in check. Then, one day, a planeswalker wandered onto his plane, and as the negotiator, Exypnos went to greet the stranger. He seemed peaceful, and Exypnos allowed the weary planeswalker to stay the night with his clan. However, in the night, Phyrexians attacked the dragon clan, and by the morning, only a few dragons, including Exypnos, and the stranger were left, and Exypnos's spark had ignited. He accompanied the planeswalker from then on, providing both help in fights and out of them.

Pagos and Fotia are a two-headed dragon, and as expected, they're like the Siamese twins of dragons. Born on the same plane as Exypnos, after he left, Fotia specialized in the burning fire magic, while her other half, Pagos dedicated himself to mind and ice magics. At one point in Exypnos's journeys, he returned to his plane, to take refuge and rest after fighting Phyrexians and Eldrazi. Unfortunately, a force of Phyrexians followed him back, and Pagos and Fotia were surrounded by them, until their sparks ignited and Pagos and Fotia went to Zendikar to help fight Eldrazi.
Referencing Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon
The Phyrexian oil that consumed Skithiryx's flesh and mind was so incredibly concentrated that it created a planer rift inside the very fabric of his essence. Instantaneously transported to the original and desolate Phyrexia, Skithiryx heard the subtle whispers of one who only called himself Yawgmoth. Soon, both of them realized that Skithiryx was the purest embodiment of the eugenics that drove Yawgmoth for centuries; a form beyond death itself. Skithiryx now seeks to spread its "enlightened gift" with all the multiverse.

Disappointed in Ral Zarek's inability to discover the secret of the Dragon's Maze before Jace, Niz-Mizzet ignited his mind in a fire of pure physic power. Ever curious, he telepathically looking into the mind while it was burning and saw the raw essence of the planewalker's spark. Thus enlightened, he dismissed the mind fire, released Ral Zarek, then later ignited his own spark since he now knew what it was and how to find it.
