@pstmdrn OOC: Stay calm baws. Don't take this seriously.
  • @mila

OOC: The night is young, you have just awakened from partying the previous evening. Besides, being a vampire, I plan on moving to day as the story calls for it rather than on a set schedule.

The moon is barely rising into the sky. There is something about it that is eerie... it seems abnormally huge, ominous and glowing with a faint purple light. Looking at it too long stirs shadows in your mind. As you take the blade from the man's belt, the little strip of cloth slips out. It is dragged piece of fabric with a crudely drawn map.
  • edited April 2017
I shortly wonder about the strange moon, but since looking at it makes me feel strange, I focus on the map, I found. I examine it closely, trying to find out, what it shows. Maybe it will lead me to some treasures, I'd really like to find. The first thing, I tryto find out, is the region, the map shows. Everything would be easier, if the road, I am walking on, was shown on the map. As soon as I find out, what the map shows, I start walking towards the spot marked with X, if there is one. If not, I examine the map closer to find out, where it wants to lead me to, going there.

Though the ground is littered with bodies of the fallen, the small devils cease their pillaging of the corpses. There is a thick puff of brimstone and the devils screech, clearing the area in a panic for something large that rises from a fiery crack in the ground. It is a hulking devil, sitting on squat hooves and wielding a vicious pitchfork. It licks its lips and is about to leap when Moonglow lifts her spear. Glowing strands of white light fly from it, binding the devil. "My bind will not hold long, for this is a strong foe. Vanquish it while it is weakened." The monstrous devil shrikes and curses.
  • @credius

The two young cathars turn around to face the sudden chilling whitle and clacking of teeth. Rathus is far more fearsome than the undead they were tormenting, who looked like a young woman. The sheer horror of Rathus's appearance turns them white. One whose eyes are as wide as dinner plates says, "This is getting bad... I'm not hanging around to see if more bones show up!" He scurries out of the alley. The other steels his expression, "I ain't afraid of no dead boy!" He adjusts his stance and raises his mace.
  • @mila

The map is crude indeed, depicting only a small area with little in way of reference points. After some scrutiny, you can make out a couple landmarks that give you some idea. The Hellmouth is fairly obvious, as is the Voldaren Estate, which may seem familiar as you were just there. The map seems to indicate some kind of building deep in the Farbog swamp to the South. Looking South, you can see the edge of the Farbog from here, where rocky soil gives way to thick, stinking mud.

North: Mountains, West: Voldaren Estate, South: Farbog, East: Stensia Valley

OOC: Would you like to equip your Veteran's Sidearm for 1?"

    Stats: 1/1 | Items: [Veteran's Sidearm] | Gold: 5 | Mana: BBRRR | XP: 0/10

  • @pstmdrn

Though one of the men seemed to be running away with his proverbial tail between his legs at the first sight of Rathus, the second man seemed less easy to intimidate, which did grant the skeleton some reason for concern, especially given the man's possession of a weapon of his own: a mace, splendidly suited to shatter bones and thus not exactly the best kind of weapon to face for poor Rathus.

Yet, at the sight of the poor, less fortunate and even less intimidating undead who had been tormented, the skeleton gathered all the courage and strength he had and stood strong.

Though he could not speak, he gathered his inner strength to prepare an attack with his Bonesplitter, intending to cleave the man in twain, yet not without holding a trick up his sleeve: his ability to regenerate should his strength alone not suffice.
  • @credius

Like Magic, combat happens simultaneously. So, good you can regenerate! We'll see what happens though.

The human laughs as you both go for the strike. You can see the blade of your axe heading for a meaty part of his trunk, bracing for the impact of the mace against your bones. But then, just before the hit, you see a ghastly white hand grab the mace mid swing. The Cathar is startled, but then your axe nearly cuts him in two. The hand lets go of the mace and the body drops, giving you a view of the female zombie that was just on the ground moments ago. She looks up, "Thank you friend... I am called Lana. I do not know what would have happened had you not come by. I was just bringing these packages back home to father when those men cornered me. Would you mind escorting me back home?"
  • Farbog becomes an intriguing place to go, since my newly aquired map indicates, there's at leat one builing of interest to find. I equip the Veteran's sidearm, I took from the poor guy, I killed and try to think of all, that might have been special about him. Maybe, there's a hint, what this map might be about.
While thinking, I start walking south, looking forward to reach the Farbog soon. The gloomyness of swamps always attracted me a lot. Every now and then, I take a look at the map and try to figure out, what kind of building I might be looking for.
  • @pstmdrn

Though unable to speak, Rathus did find comfort in the thought that he wasn't wrong: there was unity among the undead, even if he and the female zombie were worlds or rather many stages of decay apart.

She had saved him just as much as he had tried to save her, for that alone he was grateful and as such, in response to her request for him to accompany her, the skeleton simply nodded. Though he could not show any expressions, he did try to convey his happiness by opening and closing his jaws, even though it could end up giving a completely different signal or idea.

Holding his Bonesplitter to the side, Rathus lend the zombie his boney arm and hoped she'd accept his own little offer like he had accepted her request.

    @pstmdrn

    'Damn'

Leresus took a pause after he had exterminted a lot of those hellish critters with some rather not over-the-top swordsmanship techniques. He might be not the best swordsman in the world, but hey, people could learn and train anyway. Thankfully he also have learned magical techniques that could give him an edge in many fights. He then heard Moonglow screamed about a strong opponent or something like that.

'Oh, that's a pretty big one.'

"Hold on!" He screamed and ran to the hulking form of the Hulking Devil, sword glowed with power.

'Good that this sword is enchanted, or otherwise I could probably be dead after this.'

The perks when having a Banshee's Blade was your strength would always be increased after it tasted the blood of your enemy as long as the sword isn't snatched from you. The strength enhancement would also last indefinitely as long as nobody other than the wielder touched it of course.

The Hulking Devil finally freed from its binding.

    'Great.' Leresus cursed.

Just after that, the said devil swatted Moonglow with its rather large hand. The angel barrelled onto the ground, but still conscious.

    "Hey you!"

The Hulking Devil diverted its head towards him. Then he leapt at the Devil, preparing to slash it.

And his sword went through the devil's head and torso like a knife that went through butter. It then squirmed to the ground for a few seconds, then it laid still.

"You okay there?" Asked Leresus to the angel while took the sword from the dead devil. She then stood while clearing some dust from her.

"Thank you for your concern, human. But the devil's strike was nothing to me." She said rather flatly, with her forehead bleeding because of the impact from the rocky ground before.

    "Okay then... But you're bleeding."

"It will be fine." She said while prepared to cast some sort of healing spell to herself.

From that close point of view, Leresus just realized that the angel had a rather very beautiful form. Everything was just perfect, not too fat and not too thin. But sadly those angels couldn't feel what love is unless they were specialized in it because as far as he knew, angels were created like some form of living construct that only to obey their creator's commands.

    Leresus sighed.

'Well, at least I could take a good ol' bath after this.' He solemnly thought, then prepared to clean the street from the rest of the smaller devils that were still lurking around.

The fetid stench hits your vampiric senses immediately. The ground is mostly a thick gooey slime with frighteningly twisted trees and thin marsh grass. Bugs and snakes are plentiful, almost everywhere you look. You can feel the dark energy of the swamp all around you, calling to shadowy parts of your nature. There is a sort of uneven path through swamp. As you make your way you begin to hear a buzzing that grows louder. From within the swamp a large, flying insect makes its way towards you. It looks like a mosquito with more monstrous features.

North: Lowland Path, West: Mountains, South: Farbog, East: Stensia Valley

OOC: You gained a black mana but spent it to equip the weapon, so you are back to even.

    Stats: 1/1 | Items: [Veteran's Sidearm] | Gold: 5 | Mana: BBRRR | XP: 0/10
  • I still want to find the building on the map, but first, I want to take care of that insect. I start looking for it, readdy and willing to burn it with my shock spells.

Despite her recent throw to the ground, the Angel notices your non-combat interest in her heavenly assets and cannot help but smile a little, despite her vows. "I take it you fancy ale after a battle? There is a small inn out of the way that I favor, for the owner's are very devout. You can clean up there and we can drink. I drink free there and so will you when we share the tale of slaying the hellfiend." With the divine assistance of an angel, clean up is nothing. Most of the loathsome devils flee from her or are incinerated by her holy aura. She leads you down the paved streets of Thraben to an out of the way in called The Heaven's Heron, emblazoned with a stylized heron descending in a shaft of light. The innkeeper seems delighted to see Moonglow, welcoming you both in to a seat near the hearth. Moonglow explains the situation and you are shown to a nice, if not simple, bathing area.
  • @credius

The zombie gladly takes your arm, leading you gently through Havengul. She is adept at knowing the paths that keep you both in shadow or on isolated paths between garden walls. "People are so frightened of us, but the real terrors are the vampires. Sneaking up on you as a mist and striking. How loathsome." After a few minutes you arrive at a decent sized manor house. As you approach, the door opens, a middle-aged man, well-dressed stands there, "Oh, Lana! There you are. I've been so worried." He gives you a glance, but does not seemed disconcerted in the least, mostly preoccupied with Lana. As you get closer you can tell the man is definitely a human. "Oh papa, it was frightful! Those nosy cathars must have followed me. They struck me down in an alley. Our guest is the one who helped me." She gives him a great hug and he shuts the door when you both enter the house. Though nicely furnished, it is obvious science and study take precedence here. There are a great many books, diagrams, bubbling experiments and dissected limbs about. The man looks at you, seeming impressed, "I can't thank you enough for returning my daughter. I fear for her so every time she goes out, but what life could she be have confined here? But, what impresses me even more is your structure! It must be necromantic magic. I have yet to be able to animate such little remains using only science."
  • @mila

The insect swoops in closer, intent on stabbing you with its monstrous proboscis spike used for draining blood. It's eyes gleam like multifaceted rubies as it attacks. Your vampiric quickness gives you a moment to strike before it can even reach you.

    @pstmdrn

OOC: So far, I always write this in past tenses. I just hope it's the right thing.
  • @sanjaya666

I do the same, it's a habit from when you do online roleplaying in play by post version, there's nothing wrong with that. pstmdrn is obviously more of an rl D&D person, so he uses the GM style talking/writing in present tense... Mila's probably the same.

    @pstmdrn

It was quite a surprise to notice that the person who apparently had to be the zombie girl's father was human, which did make Lana's state someone pitiable, for it meant she had died at some point in the past and the man had probably used his vast knowledge to restore her into the undead state.

Rathus had to admit though, that it was quite unique to see a zombie with so much individuality and having retained the ability to speak and think on her own, obviously this meant that she had been created very quickly after her death, a wise choice and probably for the better.

The skeleton's jaws clacked and clappered proudly when the man seemed to examine his skeletal form, obviously intrigued by how Rathus was able to function while being no more than bones. He was right though, necromantic magic had been part of his form, yet he had no memories of his past life nor did he know who had made him, but he did know his own name: Rathus and when he woke up from his death, he had his Bonesplitter by his side.

Yet, despite not knowing much, the skeleton was actually interested in all the books and scientific equipment the father of Lana seemed to have, so even if it seemed rather rude, the skeleton walked over towards the nearest books and tried to see if they contained some useful information...
  • OOC: Either is fine. In my gaming and my writing I like the urgency of present tense. William Gibson is very influential to me and a lot of cyberpunk fiction is in the present tense.
  • @pstmdrn

Thought so, Cyberpunk is indeed first person present tense, while PbP is always third person past tense. It's just a matter of choice, though I reckon it's a bit harder for you to respond to our posts than the way around xD

OOC: I hope this isn't too far fetched with the contradictions about the angels, lol.

    -- || --

Well, things were looking good so far.

Although the bathing room was simple and plain, it was actually pretty large.

After the servants prepared the water and the bathing equipments, and then turned the fireplace on to make the water warm, he could finally take his time to relaxing.

A few minutes after cleaning the grimes and contemplating about his condition in the wooden bathtub passed, suddenly Moonglow knocked the door.

    "Wha-, who's that?"

"It is me, traveler. Can I come in?"

'Uh, I hope it doesn't involve some rather bad news.'

"Wait a minute." After a quick wrapping himself in towel, he then opened the door.

Moonglow just rushed in, unarmed, then closed the door and prepared to said something to him.

"Forgive me, traveler. This may sound rude, but I forgot to ask your name."

"Uh, its Leresus." 'Damn, is this really happening?' Leresus thought with a slight of panic.

"Alright, Leresus." She then started to gently take off her clothing. She apparently also already undid her light plate armor somewhere outside.

Leresus just stared her in silence. Who wouldn't? Any sane male person would like to be in his position at that moment. He also realized again that she had a slimmer built than he first thought, but also with a pair of nice breasts and a rather big, but not too big bottom. Adding with that delicate feminine and young face of her, it was just right. Finally she stood there in front of him, bare of clothing.

"You know, at first I met you, I thought you were just like the other humans who were either too afraid or too devout." She said while also touching his cheek. "But it apparently wasn't the case."

Then their lips finally met each other in a passionate kiss.

    Leresus finally broke the kiss.

"Wait, this is real, right? Nobody forced you to do this, right?" He asked. 'What the hell, just enjoy this. It doesn't really matter anyway.' His mind protested.

"I chose to do this with all my heart." She said with a sincere tone.

"I don't know how to say about this..." He turned his head at left side. Truth to be told, it was really his first kiss. And he would also soon lose his virginity. 'Is she always like this towards strangers?'

"Hey, Just relax. And no, I just performed this kind of activity only a few times since I aware of my existence." She smiled. "I am not the purveyor of love after all." She said while also touching his cheek.

They both then broke into a deep kiss and started touching each other.

After she made him bare of clothing and finished with the touching parts, Leresus then lie down on the wooden floor with Moonglow on top of him. Their low echoes of love ritual filled that room of that night and the musky smell of sweat was also notable.

After a few changes in the position, where Moonglow is the dominant one and exhaustion took him, the wizard finally broke the dam.

"Uh, I hope that wouldn't be a problem-"

"Worry not, there are many methods of how to make someone infertile." The angel smiled. Surprisingly she didn't smell of sweat or other humanly downsides.

'It's probably just an angelic thing.' He thought.

In the end, after they both done with their whole rustle of their rather intimate activity, the angel then joined him in the rather large bathtub. Her wings just lied outside the rim of the bathtub.

'Uh, this is awkward.' Leresus thought.

"I admit, I rather look like a prostitute." The angel confessed.

"Uh well, we've only just met a few hours before, so..."

"It is hard for me to believe to, but aside from reading thoughts, I can also feel other people's emotions."

"And you believe that I am the right one?"

"...Yes." She then stared in silence.

"So, you said you have already done this before... What actually happened to the others before me?"

"They were growing old and died, or missing."

"Oh." 'Just how old is she?'

She smiled. "Just a few hundred years, the details aren't really important anyway."

'Damn, looks like that I'm gonna need an immortality potion or something like that.'

"I'm sorry, but I currently unaware of such elixir or any spell that can extend a human's life to such an extent. Even my sisters are also unaware of such matter." She tore her gaze away and seemed to think about something.

'Well, one of those method is to be a vampire, but I doubt that she will like it.'

"...The thirst of blood and massacre is uncontrollable if someone ever turned into such abomination. It sadden me to see that a good soul is corrupted like that. Then we would have no choice to fight that person, because it is our duty to protect the humankind from such threat."

    "I know." He solemnly said.

The night was rather long for both of them. They told each other about a bit of stories of their life, about the threats that lurk across the land, and so on, until the wandering wizard-novice didn't want to take the alcoholic beverages after the bathing session and just decided to take a rest in the inn's bedroom while the angel was still keep watching over the night.
  • When close enough, I attack the insect with my weapons, hoping, a hit is enough for that creature to be dead. If not, I am ready to response to a counterattack by casting my shock spell.

@credius I play a lot of PbP White Wolf games like Mage and Changeling, present tense works well for those too. There is a sense of urgency that is nice for games set in a contemporary or future time.
  • OOC: Updates today!
