Check out this new forum discussion I started over there in an attempt to get some more traffic here for @mtgcardsmith and the rest of us to benefit from!

  • "Currently I'm the "Most Popular Smith" on the custom card creation website that is MTGCardsmith.com."

    Your modesty is showing.

    You can't put custom cards in a deck on tappedout. One community is for brewing and sharing decks and the other is for coming up with new cards. There's some overlap but this doesn't seem like a great way to promote MTGCS, especially the 'me-centric' feel of the post and claiming that the site doesn't have many people on it. You should probably advertise either the site or your own creations and not try to do both.

    Thanks for your suggestions. Take note that the discussion is in the custom card creation forum where it does actually make a lot of sense and would allow for simple, possibly extensive, overlap. Also, with TappedOut users consistently more and more tethered to Untap, this grants another great way to test out customs.

    Unfortunately it is true that this site currently is low on activity serious cardsmiths, I hope it changes moving forward!

    And those original quotation marks were no accident. I don't by any stretch consider myself the best smith on the site, but in any actual ranking with regard to this site, I have become (due to the users) the most popular. I can think of more then a few more capable card designers than myself. Feel free to debate this point however, I won' t mind altering my observation!
  • @Faiths_Guide
    How is that true exactly? Our daily card average is ~700 new custom cards. In April, Cardsmiths made a total of 18,000+ cards - and those are just the cards that were published and saved. What sort of metrics are you using or expecting?

    @mtgcardsmith
    I wasn't referring to the casual card creator (which accounts for the majority of creations), but, rather, the number of us actively commenting and edifying each other and thereby bettering the website environment. Those of us active on the forums and contests etc. etc.

    I'm glad there's high activity and all, I just wish there were better ratios between serious cards and design versus "whymtgcardsmith" contributions.

    Please correct me when/if I speak inaccurately!

    I like your ideas @Faiths_Guide. However, I think it's important to give cards from other creators as examples instead. Otherwise, the point doesn't come across as well. Otherwise, you need to at least accentuate other people's cards over your own

    Examples could include cards that make major changes to how the game functions so as to astonish the reader and/or show how all around cool cards are being made daily.
  • @modnation675
    Yes, I'll be adding more images for sure!

    I'm looking for more cards you could post. But I'm waiting until I gather many, so that the two ones we've made being in there doesn't mean we're biased.

  • Again, you should probably make the topic about your creations and not the site in general. Mentioning where you made the cards is fine, trying to represent the site in a self-promotion post is not a good idea.

    @strongbelieves
    That's fair. I really only presented it the way I did because I've been submitting designs I've made here as images to the big custom card discussion on TappedOut lately. I reasoned that they'd like to see where the cards were coming from.

    zephramtripp is mentioning my worry on my discussion...
  • It may be better to show them the gems of creation, to show that the active users are indeed at skilled creation and balancing, and to alleviate the WMTGCS fears.
  • Also, I know if @Tomigon were here, he would mention that it's best to get permission by the other Cardsmiths before you post their cards as an example of their work. Sometimes they can feel hijacked and misrepresented, if they don't happen to like that card for their own personal reasons.
  • @Corwinnn
    Good point. I really should've only used my own, not used other's.
  • Actually I am the most popular
  • @delrethius
    Oh, whoops, yeah! I totally slipped up there! My apologies XD
  • I like the forum and I hope I see some newer smiths come join. (I'm not new I'm just TheFriendlyGeek's new account) Also, its hard to jumpstart my new account. This may be advertising, but could you maybe post some of my new cards on my new account on the forum.
  • Okay I reread what I just said and that definitely is advertising. Sorry xD :l

    @ImagineThat
    You should just make sure to join the daily challenges and look for feedback in the "post your cards here" kind of challenges.

    Other than that, it's a great idea to give feedback on other people's cards because it'll convince them to give you some support as well. Although, you should do so for the sake of helping others first and foremost.

    Edit: You should also put your cards into set sections on your account, as well as provide references for artwork. This just makes the viewer experience better overall. (This includes links to the image source!)
  • @modnation675 okay ya I get what you mean :)

    @ImagineThat
    We have at least 2 new accounts so far! I'd call greater than 0 a success. :D

    I think I'm gonna speak with Corwinnn later today to see if our god can mention some features to mtgcardsmith that would help the user experience be streamlined.

    Especially in regards to commenting on people's card pages (and replying to messages on them.) as well as posting linked card images. Thus helping new users with the hassles of community feedback and sharing their cards!
