Can we talk about Letstalkaboutthis?
I just want to talk about the existence of the account and the fact that it just seems to be a vigilante account. It first appeared during the Fruit Dragon flood and only just appeared for the second time commenting on the big Egg fiasco. The account has been making comments to shut down whatever they deem to be non-serious. Is this a good thing for this site or a bad thing? Magic is supposed to be fun and what really is the harm in being cavalier about the game? Let's talk about this.

My issue with the fruit dragon craze was not so much that it existed, but rather that it was essentially just @Sorinjace and a couple of other random smiths making sub-par, bad designs and then favoriting them to the top. It was choking out the space for good designs. Had the fruit dragons used proper MTG wording, syntax, etc. I wouldn't have had a problem with it.
My problem with the whole @Eggdad thing is that he is being completely immature, and being mean. That said, he is just a troll account who I think will go away if we ignore him. I feel that people like @Krampiszman are just feeding the flames of this troll, and that we need to stop giving the Eggs the time of day.
To be clear, I do not have an Anti-fun stance like @Phelgaming (I think I spelled that right, but I don't really care if I did, that's not the point). I have no problem with "fun" cards being made. Heck, half of my own designs are probably not even half as serious as almost everyone else on the site. I just don't like sub-par designs dominating the sites or people being jerks.
I probably should have just left this discussion alone as this is an old debate.
So 'Letstalkaboutthis', since you have been on the site for a long time, why don't you TELL US WHO YOU ARE? You say you don't want to hurt anyones 'feelings' but you can't help or control how someone feels about your posts regardless of your intentions.
I'll be the first to admit, my designs needed work in the beginning, but you know, i'm willing to bet that YOU was sub-par in the beginning as well (no disrespect, its just a guess). Give me a break man! I'm far better than I was a year ago. I joined this site to make unbelievable cards, quite literally that in the beginning. Since then, I have learned that this site doesn't want you to make ridiculously over the top cards, and that there was even a forum or contests for that matter. I have come a long ways on here, and I am improving everyday. I have a good attitude about it, and believe it or not, I love the constructive criticism that other cardsmiths leave me, including yours, that is, if you have left me any with your normal account because you have not disclosed who you are as of yet.
I just wanted to do a shout out: @Phelgming has been one of the greatest helps to me improving my cards with his constructive criticism (thank you @Phelgming), and the support from fellow cardsmiths on here such as @Corwinnn, @Tomigon, @Lujikul, @modnation675, @KalamMekhar, @captain_Pugsley, @Dechujoh64, @Aryanf, @KrampisZman, @MagicChess, @kandra127, I could go on, there are some really cool and creative cardsmiths on here that have been really helpful and kind to me and my friends. I just wanted to say thank you @mtgcardsmith.com! -sorinjace
As the saying goes... It's all fun and games until someone steps on an egg... wait... no, that's not it...
For example, with this whole @sorinjace thing, I'm pretty sure that Letstalkaboutthis was more worried about the fact that we were consistently seeing cards from like the same 3-5 people (who aren't mega smiths) on the front page. This was compounded by the fact that not all of those cards were even particularly good. The thing is, there is no point in complaining about it. Sure, it sucks when you spend hours on a trying to perfect it's design, all to have it go unnoticed while a different card that isn't well templated and doesn't use proper syntax makes it to the top. Unfortunately, that's just the nature of cardsmith. You can either complain about it or help the people to improve. I'm personally a fan of the latter.
To speak about their opinion about what is happening on the site.
Sadly. It is difficult to write and give the reciever the correct intent of the text. Text is just so netrual so even if the writer intend it to be simple opinions and maybe constructive critice it might be recieved as complaints and blaming for the reader.
Most of us are not proffesional writers so we are not able to put the exact feelings both into the text and out of the text.
This is a great community and we should not assume that other people want to make us feel bad or insult/blame us. Most just want to help the community. We just all have different methods for it. Some want to increase the good, other wants to decrease the bad.
About the fruit dragons. They might have not been made in the proper quality but they were just a temporary trend and writing about it would not stop it. I think @Letstalkaboutthis wanted to adress larger and more permanent "problems" but when writing it is easy to become a little too emotional. Also without a proper toned voice to tell the words.
First off, can we agknowledge how utterly stupid that whole thing was? Sure, some guy was doing things that make to sense or anything, but like, ??? pardon me? I feel like there is a certain line of maturity that's crossed when one says "everyone who comments on this is big poop" but like, I almost feel like being that offended by it is even worse... I don't really think it deserved all the negative OR positive hype. If you don't like when people do stuff like that, then do what you tell people and just ignore it! It really isn't hard to just not look at a single thread in a sea of threads.
Also, I think we all need to take a big ol' step back. As with any of these things, we need to give others the benefit of the doubt. What if eggdad was a nine year old child who's feelings were destroyed by letstalk? What if letstalk is a troll who doesn't care about the community? Now, I'm not saying any of these things are true, but we gotta realize that we really have no idea who we're talking to. The way I see it, stupid people will do stupid things, always, and you can't stop it. I don't blame you for seeking anonymity, but I think we all need to remember that we're all nerds making custom magic the gathering cards on the internet. It doesn't need drama, and I feel like if you're at the point that you make an account that doesn't post any cards is completely unnecessary. That said, we can't be a 1984 esque no wrongthink military state of a site.
Things change, new people and trends come and go. I mean, I am evidence of that. I am a relatively new account and was blown away, like @sorinjace, at how responsive and supportive this whole community was. Until egg dad and letstalk came along. But you can't freak out about that. You can't antagonize people for making "bad" cards or "bad" posts.
But by saying that, I have become a hypocrite. You shouldn't antagonize other people, but I also can't antagonize you. At its core, we're all here for kicks. WOTC isnt allowed to look at these cards, and you can't really realistically print them. There's no reason we should be on here other then to have fun. And if becoming a stupid annoying egg lord is your thing, do it! If you want to make an anonymous account and berrate everyone you disagree with, I can't stop you. But please try to keep the magic in these forums (no pun intended).
After lots of consideration and messaging, I have really come to understand ALL sides of this issue. I know who @eggdad actually is, and I know who @letstalkabouthis is as well. I don't want to "expose" them, but i will say that both of them are being equally really hypocritical and pretty dumb to be honest. To egg dad, I'll say, "mate, why?" and to letstalk, i'll say "please calm down. I understand your stance, but you could be a little more chill about it, mate." And to both of them, and to everyone else, and to me, I say this.
why do we care? this shouldn't matter. Can we please just have good time and make cards? If trends come and go, its fine. But to the "silly" people, don't rub your egg cards in people's faces by posting them in serious contests, and to the "serious' people, dont act like you're better then everyone else. 'Cause you're not.
