Well, this has been long thought over. But in the end, we think we can rank you three wonderful peoples in a way that is fair. It is amazing, the things you have done to be here, but never in our life has a COLONISERS season ended in a tie, and we're not about to start now. So here be rankings:
Starr Ekisha, the enigmatic mage, the bender of time, space and philosophy. You have done well. Why didn't we pick this faction for the win? Well, honestly, it was a really close call. Ultimately, I think, it came down to who could do the most flamboyant finale. And while the final submission didn't leave a lot more to want, (it was good), the others had a bit more of that badoomchingachingatsssworlworlgesamtkunstwerk. So take your trophy, and be sure to come again. The lore brought tears to my eyes at times. But no, a lore-heavy Esper faction of wizards practicing arguably-dark magic shall not win COLONISERS a second time.
Gareth, Truth-Seeker, Seeker of Truth, which Who seeks that which is true. You have done very well. An intriguing idea right from the start, when it was pitched in a previous season, only to be called back. This time around, it fared well for its creator. Lots of boom factor. Lots of mystery. Befitting of this mystic plane. However, the faction with the overall best-written arc has, I believe a bit more.... *heh heh heh* FLAIR.
I think this was put best by our pal @IzItTru. "One of the highlights of my week is seeing in what way Flair will just set the problem on fire this time".
You're the Phineas and Ferb of COLONISERS. For half the season, you somehow got away with posting the same plot twist over and over again and managing to make it fresh and exciting each time. And then that arc at the end, that was really inspiring. The knights learning to destroy not so mindlessly...
But most of all, you managed to make burn interesting. And if only for that, you deserve the win.
Alright, so that's IT for Season 5!!! A huge thanks to everyone who participated or supported the project in any way.
Expect Season 6 to start rolling very, very soon. I honestly thought we would take a break here, but it's just so fun to run this I think we can afford the effort.
This season was a ton of fun, and I'm pumped to see what happens in Season 6 with all of you. Congrats to Daedalus and Spookoops -- y'all really brought some fun and excitement to the table this season -- as well as everyone else.
I can't express how much I appreciate the interest y'all have had in Flair's character. I was honestly worried the setting the problem on fire might eventually become repetitive, but I love that it became a highlight and something that I was able to make "fresh and exciting each time."
> "But most of all, you managed to make burn interesting."
I'm glad it worked out because lemme tell ya, making almost mono-red was something very outside of my comfort zone. Any of you who know have played MTG with me or have talked about it with me probably know that I run control almost exclusively and would never be caught dead playing burn or mono red aggro.
To peace on Mystik and to who-knows-what on the next plane, Cheers
P.S. This isn't the end of Flair. He will have a special place in a custom set in the future, though I'm not sure when that will be.
@pjbear2005 I may be wrong, but I think he means a round of Colonisers between all of the previous winners. And @DrakeGladis it’ll probably be a few more seasons before there’s enough winners to have it happen.
Congratulations to the top three and, in particular, @SammySammyson!
I have produced your precons - 60 card Colonisers legal decks that nobody asked for, with needed reprints to fantasise about and commanded by your cards. I have them in the form of folders with images in, so I'm not sure how best to give them to you.
@AxNoodle, the best option would probably to just make them into sets with links to them. I understand that this would not be able to make them our own, but then we could go in and save them to a set we create.
