Just a question, do our previous challenges still exist? I'm just slightly confused as to what the whole "...and the deadline has ended..." thing means. Sorry if this is an annoying inconvenience or something, but I'm relatively new to the mystery box challenges. Are our prizes still there, and does my "Mystery Challenge: Create a Bird Horror creature card." still have relevance?
@CrimsonFox As you can see with jadefire's entry, which is for an older mystery box from the last deadline, you submit your cards whenever. When a deadline ends, it just means I will judge all the entries that have been submitted up to that point.
Ultimatum is like Assist in that other players can help you cast the spell, except instead of asking a teammate to help you, you're requiring your opponents to help you and they can work together to pay the full amount. Like Assist, other players get the first opportunity to pay. So the only way the ultimatum cost isn't paid is when they choose to not pay or don't have the ability to pay. Ultimatum seemed like an appropriate name for this ability because the card dictates how much needs to be paid and the manner in which it's to be paid (under pain of consequences).
@Jadefire what happens if you don’t have enough mana to cast a spell with Ultimatum yourself, and your opponents decline to pay for it? Can you not cast a spell with ultimatum unless you could already pay for it yourself? Or does it work like Assist where you can choose to take the spell back if they don’t pay as much as you want/need from them?
@cadstar369 I believe this excerpt from Rule 601.2 would apply "If a player is unable to comply with the requirements of a step listed below while performing that step, the casting of the spell is illegal; the game returns to the moment before the casting of that spell was proposed (see rule 723, “Handling Illegal Actions”)." These steps include paying the cost (601.2h). So there's no point in even beginning to cast the spell unless you have the ability to pay for it all yourself, since your opponents will just decline to pay anything, but there's a rule to deal with the case where someone does.
