I think your Baloth was overall more playable as a standalone card, it can be used with Mutate but it doesn't have to be. It's just a solid, well-costed creature with a bunch of relevant abilities. My Baloth may be more flashy but it's also a "build around me" card that has minimal usefulness outside of a tribal Beast deck. That's what I'd guess set them apart.
It would help if you could post the name of the duel your entry is for. That way I can easily find it
