Cycle Challenge - Merfolk
With the fourth Cycle Challenge having just ended, it's time for the next Cycle Challenge
The Cycle Challenge - MERFOLK!
Like a lot of you, I really love a good cycle of cards. Let's try this out and see how it goes. If people seem to like this, we will continue to have a new challenge each week for the next few weeks or so.
This weeks Cycle Challenge: Merfolk
Here are the rules...
1. Must be a Creature and must be a Merfolk.
2. CMC and rarity should be consistent.
3. Must have 5 Merfolk, one of each color, to complete the cycle.
4. Try to fit each one into it's color with both FLAVOR and ABILITIES.
Judging will be based on flavor, votes, and comments, as well as playability and balance
The reward for this challenge shall be a TROPHY and a custom card of choice! The top three cycles will be announced.
This challenge will end on August 7th

Nice cycle of Merfolk! Great artwork and you got quite a few votes on your merfolk, which was nice to see. There was a slight imbalance of power among them, but overall these are really fun!

Great art work for this neat cycle. There were a few little nitpicky issue, like giving four of them a static ability but not the fifth one, and giving some a tapping ability but not all of them, still I really liked some of the ideas you had, especially the Stormspike and Colossal merfolk.

Here is another set with great artwork! I love this theme you selected for this cycle. It's very simple and elegant (that could just be the artwork talking) If an opponent has the advantage, they are suspicious and territorial, if you have the advantage they become brazen and willful. Nice job!

Maybe I just like Merfolk a lot, but here is another set with great artwork! Much like Looverse, you went with a simple and stylish cycle. You also had some slight differences in the merfolk, but in general those were flavor choices and I think they don't diminish the overall balance of the cycle. Well done!

Another, great artwork set! I don't think there were any duplicates on artwork, which is pretty amazing! This one is cool for the ability to use them in blue decks, multi-colored decks or even mono-colored decks. There was, to me, a slight imbalance on some of the abilities, but really minor stuff.
All in all, these were pretty solid... all in the 40's, all with different artwork. Great job to everyone!

Congrats to ALL the Cardsmiths who participated! I think this was my favorite of all the cycle challenges so far.
