With that, I believe it's time to make a fresh thread to have a clear picture of where the set is at!
I'm starting to prepare everything by proof-reading commons and uncommons and I'm noticing some stuff I let slip:
I - COMMONS
1) The green pump spells have been mixed up quite a bunch. Now that we've settled on an expensive masterwork pump spell that gives +3/+3 and trample, I didn't like that the even-life-matters pump spell also gave +3 power so I made it +2/+0 instead of +3/+0 and reduced its cost by one mana:
2) I wanted to add a serran life and a masterwork card to the colourless cards for as-fan purpose. I think masterwork can work with the equipment as an "attach for free" mechanic. And I modified Iffy Doctor's Kit slightly so it still enables Renewal, life loss, and second spells triggers easily in the early game but does that using serran life:
3) I also don't think the "secret" milling lands theme is anywhere strong enough right now to justify having the common land (Recovering Landscape) only looking at the graveyard. I originally wanted to avoid Evolving Wilds because the set already has a lot of colour fixing through serran life, but I also would like to encourage a five-colour masterwork deck so I ended up mixing the two cards:
II - UNCOMMONS
1) Excommunication in white felt like 3 life was a pretty cheap price to pay, so I increased it to 5 life so you really think about it twice before casting a spell with the same name as the excommunicated card.
2) Front Line Melee was kind of a placeholder as I didn't really have an idea for this slot. Now that Messenger of Serra doesn't gain serran life anymore, I used the opportunity to recycle a design I recently invented for a contest:
3) Blizzard Phantasm was really complicated to understand so I streamlined it. It's 7-mana so that gives it a little power boost:
4) Arcane Folio was too wordy. I kept the theme but gave an immediate repeatable reward so it wouldn't have an ability that generated counters and an ability that used them. I considered a tap/untap ability but Blue could use some help in the life manipulation department so I re-used the "serran life conversion" idea from common:
5) The WB Angels and Clerics archetype is trying to give a different feel to Angel tribal and Cleric tribal but the black directional card, Minister of Serra, used them for the same effect, just scaling better with Angels than Clerics. I separated the two abilities, giving life loss to angels and life gain to clerics, and adding a point of toughness to compensate:
6) Demise of the Unsightly still felt underwhelming now that we regularly have better Murder like Poison the Cup, so I added a bit of scrying:
___
Also, I need to test something for the new thread intro, don't mind me:
My usual position is that we don't need specific hate for serran life because it's easy to deal with the opponent gaining serran life with regular means like attacking or damage spell, but you're definitely not the first (or last) one who proposes a serran life hate spell xD I'm starting to consider it's something people expect and we should do one anyways, just to meet expectations ^^ We haven't done the uncommon artifacts yet, that would be the perfect place for something like this design.
The set actually has something super similar to Benevolent Relic already (it's part of a cycle of uncommon enchantments)! =D
Don't be sorry, I don't expect anyone to keep track of what's in the file or not! Even I am lost about what's in the file or not sometimes XD I just want to give context as to why I don't go "Sure, let's put that in the file with the rest" immediately ^^ Feel free to throw any idea you have in the air, sometimes it hits the right spot and we can always re-contextualise ideas later ^^
I'm doing the intro for the new thread right now and I noticed a couple more issues:
1) BLUE:
There was no 1-mana creature (which is possible, but I still think it's better to have one especially with the second spell archetype around) and only one Art creature. So I transformed two creatures into Art and I made one 1-mana instead of 2-mana:
___
And with that, here's the refreshed thread for the Rezatta set: LINK!
I'm pretty sure that the yugioh designers design cards and randomly apply names to them, then get someone to try and draw s thing with that description to that name. The exception would be with cards that are particularly linked to other cards.
Hi, for various reasons I don't want to get involved in this massive superthread. But i am curious about 2 things. I was thinking of making a galley for you guys as like, community service.
1) Are cards being officially ruled as "in" the set? I assume the thread creator ningyounk would be the authority for that. 2) Is there a collected Gallery of them somewhere?
I quickly realized there is not way a casual read is going to get me the official list. Many cards have many versions. As many cards were obvious not made on Cardsmith but a program that allows more artistic freedom, so can't be linked into a Gallery here.
I could make one for you guys, but would need to know which card images so I can DL them and upload them over on Deviantart.
1) No, there is no card that is permanently locked in the set yet ^^ While some of the cards are less likely to change than others, none is protected at this stage and more importantly we'll go through a flavour overhaul at the end, so every card is going to change name and illustration (and potentially gain flavour text) at the end of the process
2) Because the cards are changing so fast, there's no up-to-date gallery at this stage (I do keep one on my computer but even that one has multiple parallel versions xD) Updating each card on the site whenever there's a slight change would just take too much time.
The best way to have a complete overview of the set is usually the introduction of these threads. Just so you know, the latest version of this thread can be found here: LINK (I'm not sure how you unearthed this one, to be honest XD)
what's the summarized story of this set going to be, as I feel like so far I don't see anything that hints at a conflict of overall story. Even a basic 5 plot points, in story spotlight cards, could be a good way to help with some design ideas.
If I remember correctly, the story isn't fully developed yet, but the general summary is that the angel planeswalker Serra is reborn on Rezatta, and from her rebirth comes a new period of change on the plane. There's probably more than that, but that's just what I remember.
I like how this set has developed. I had looked at it a long time back and it has come a long way. Do we just submit here that we fell will be good for the OP and everyone critiques them?
I've looked at it before, but I noticed how there doesn't seem to be much of a conflict cause lets be real, planeswalkers draw in problems wherever they go. Also, is Eco a planeswalker of a legendary creature as I remember early on there was discussion about having a mute planeswalker character.
If you'd like to design some cards for Rezatta, you can head to the latest thread there: LINK. I'm going to post a more detailed explanation on that thread so we don't keep pushing this old one to the top of the discussions list every time ^^

The lore is that it's two things of the exact opposite. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the contribution! =D
