Master of Magic (Closed for Judging, Feedback)
Hello, everyone.
In Strixhaven, there's a mechanic called Magecraft ("Whenever you cast or copy an instant or sorcery, [effect]." I found it interesting, and it reminded me of another mechanic called Spell Mastery ("If there are two or more instant and/or sorcery cards in your graveyard, [effect]." Here are examples of each:
My challenge to you is to make cards using either mechanic, or both if you feel like it. This contest will ideally end at on June 7th, with wiggle room depending on interest.

(Just realized that I forgot the "or copy" clause for Magecraft. I may get around to remaking the card soon, but for now let's just irrata it to say that.)
I decided I wanted to try and get Magecraft on a spell, and have Spell Mastery there too. Technically it has a Spell Mastery ability, but using the keyword took up too much space.

heres my entry
@pstmdrn
I think this is a good start, but I feel it’s a little cheap for a counterspell, and in the “spell mastery” section, I would have out “1 damage” instead of “one damage”. Still, a good idea for a red/blue counterspell.
@KorandAngels
I enjoy this card. I’d say that you could shorten the first ability’s sentence to “…exile it instead.” I also think the spell mastery ability is more of a red/black ability, since green/black does more with gaining life than losing it. Still, a fair enough card, if a little strong stat-wise.
@NicoStoner
There are a few instances where you refer to this card as “Museum Curator” instead of “Solomon, Museum Curator”. I enjoy the Lorehold flavor, but the spell mastery ability seems very overpowered for the ability, especially for an uncommon creature.
@Void_Retainer
This is an interesting Act of Treason reimagining. I’m not sure if I’d have put the {2}{r} ability on the bottom, but I think it’s a good way of keeping the card on the battlefield. I think if that ability were activated only as a sorcery, it would be a little better.
@ThePhantomJoker
I like this card. It makes Adventures easier, and has a simple magecraft ability that works off casting them. I feel like this would work as a White or Green/White card, but this version is still good.
This is a cool card. It’s a destroy card with an amass effect tacked on. Personally, I think it might cost a little more or be either an amass 1 or have only one opponent lose life.
@Void_Retainer
This card is good. I think the first ability should have two sentences instead of one, but it’s still good. I also like the spell mastery ability, although it might be a little overpowered depending on how it’s playtested.
@WarriorCatInAHat
This is a cool land destruction card. It reminds me of Chandra’s Fury. I think this card could be {3}{r}{r} instead of {4}{r}{r}. I’m not sure if the spell mastery ability fits or not, but I think it’s interesting.
@JadeFire
I like this card. It’s simple, and works with some Strixhaven abilities. I think it could just be red/blue, since it works well with Prismari stuff, but I still like this.
[Split into two pieces because of length]
This isn’t a bad card. I think it’s a little overcosted, and there’s one or two minor grammar error, but I think it’s a good enchantment.
I think this card could be reworked. The first ability isn’t really in-color. The second ability is okay, but I think it could be a little better-worded.
I think this is a fairly good card. The first ability is a little oddly-worded, and the spell mastery ability technically doesn’t count as spell mastery, but I still like this as the front side of a card. I also think its stats are a little high.
This is probably your weakest card here in this contest. There are a few grammar errors, and the magecraft ability is incomplete.
This is a pretty good burn spell. The only real thing is that this could probably be an uncommon card instead of a rare. As an aside, are all of these for a specific character or story you're making?
@Aggroman
This card is interesting. I like how you did your best to include both abilities on the card. Now, I’m sure there’s a way to cut down on some of the words, but that’s really the only thing I have about this card.
@Zaheer_The_Grim
While I like the card, I think that its ability is more red/blue instead of blue/green. I also thin the spell mastery should read “…shuffle up to three cards you control in exile” instead of what’s there. Still, fun card, and I’m sure there’s a deck one could build around it.
@samconsumepie
The only real feedback I have for this card is that I feel like it could be 1R instead of 2R, since its spell mastery has a drawback.
