Monster Movie Contest (Ends January 31)
Hello,
Very near in time to the creation of this discussion, wizards of the coast offered up a batch of Secret Lair items with a general theme around monster movies.Using your clever artistic skills, either hand create or copy a movie poster from the internet, but add font to the card in photoshop, paint, power point, etc. so that it could be a magic card.
We also have seen the creation of actual movie monsters, but these movie monster cards had actual magic cards, with a different name and more magic-like artwork.
Create cards that are like real magic cards, but themed after a movie monster.
Way back, I created a movie monster set discussion where anyone could drop some cards in as they make them. Check it out here.
Here are some examples from that discussion that other cardsmiths have made:
Create cards directly themed after a monster movie that showcases the main monster(s) or that tells the story of the movie with the card's abilities and flavor text. I'll also accept other characters or items from movies if you feel the desire to create them.
You have three options for this contest.
(Below each of the above examples, I've included a spoiler with the corresponding option from below.)You do not need to denounce which option you are submitting for.
Option A - Movie Poster Card
Using your clever artistic skills, either hand create or copy a movie poster from the internet, but add font to the card in photoshop, paint, power point, etc. so that it could be a magic card.
Option B - Magic Translated Monster Card
Drop a card that's like a real magic card, but is themed after a movie monster.
While the artwork might not be the best here, it has no mention of the movie's name in the title, but the card text matches my direct interpretation card.

Option C - Direct Interpretation Monster Movie Card
Drop cards directly themed after a monster movie that showcases the main monster(s) or that tells the story of the movie with the card's abilities and flavor text. I'll also accept other characters or items from the movie if you feel the desire to create them.
While I chose to go with a comedic approach to this movie, it translates the story pretty well. The main monsters are giant ants. Instead of creating a giant ant card, I went with this approach. The main threat was that they were populating and spreading. It seemed like they'd kill one ant and two more would appear. Eventually, there were so many ants that the military locked the city down while they finished their operation. As such, this was the translation of the story into the card. For an optional, added challenge with this option, make the converted mana cost equal to your rating of that movie 0-10, with 10 being the best movie ever.

At the end of January, I'll announce the winners, who will receive appropriate prizes for their efforts.
If you've already created stuff like this in the past, feel free to drop those here as well. You can also expect favorites on entries as I see them, because this stuff excites me!This discussion has been closed.
