Why are RPGs dying at some point?

I would really like to know, why at some point, people are no longer interested in RPGs and just stay away from it, dont write anything and dont create cards for it anymore.
I dont want to blame anyone, but i want to understand the reason for it, to learn from it and to improve and make better RPGs in the future.

I inevitably just feel like people's IRL lives get in the way of the RPGs. I to know the feeling of being part of an RPG and feel it dying. But I definitely it's mainly because people have real lives and things to do, as well as jobs and lives outside of their computers, which will inevitably get in the way of participating, or they just lose interest, or feel that they no longer want to participate for their own reasons.

What i dont get is why people join then in the first place if they have so much other stuff to do. Its unfair towards those other players in the RPG.
The RPGs i did so far usually were about creating ONE card per weak and writing something about that card in the forum. That takes about 15-20 Minutes.
And everywhere i go i see people doing stuff on their smartphones all the time, so TIME cant really be the problem.
But what i learned so far is: No Party/Group based content in RPGs. If everyone has their own story its way easier if a player is suddenly gone.
  • hmmm. I feel like approaching with that kind of outlook on something is pretty negative. If a person just isn't responding to something after a while, they might have joined, then life got in the way, or they just got bored and moved on. It happens.

I designed Paper World RPG exactly for that, but then ALL players got bored with it, so I discarded the RPG then start new RPG which people don't have to worry about having wait for other people. My new RPG called "Battle On! The Quest" is for people who want to do something quick or spend some time on it before moving on. Then, they can come back as I kept their data.

The reason why I sometimes appear to be slow because my family continually require my assistance, means less time for smartphone. So, I am generally active after around 7 to 8 PM. (I normally liked to play Halo, that is)
  • back when i did Spellwebs - it dies because i killed it. people kept joining when people left. the objective is to make a rpg that is flexible, evolving, and doesn't rely on people always being there to work it out. people can leave and continue or join midstream ... if they want... least that's how it should be. also, maybe sometimes people didn't think it was what they wanted it to be and struggle to maintain interest. it's like having a youtube channel, not every video will get watched by your subscribers
