  • @KalamMekhar @Faiths_Guide I'm a little late to the conversation here, but I think WOTC should just reprint hierarch rather than ban it. Sure, it does a lot, but it also dies to a lot.

    I think if we're going to ban anything in modern, it should be Ancient Stirrings. That card makes Tron way too good by allowing it to dig for its combo pieces at an incredibly low cost.

    That said, I think modern would be better off if we just got powerful new cards instead of banning things. Standard's power level has been abysmally low since Theros left the format, and I think it's high time we Make Magic Great Again.
  • Of all the cards, i've made during my short time here. Most cards I create i end up disliking after finishing them. but these five cards, i'm honestly proud of these

    Faerie Hunter - Surprisingly the weakest of the five you posted. I'm not sure why it's legendary, but that's your choice. A hasty 6/4 for seven isn't too bad, except the ETB is all-the-way-down terrible - you are giving an opponent 12 power and toughness worth of creatures. Faeries are also traditionally blue and black, which is another issue I have. The activated ability feels pretty lackluster and niche, as well, since most of the time the Faeries you'll eat with it are the faeries he makes, which are way too big if you ask me.

    Tormented Predator - The classic vanilla. The only issue I have is the glaring 5 power for a 3-drop, which is just over the top.

    Alluring Light - This is a color pie break. Blue doesn't get outright removal. The closest I can think of is Reality Shift, which lets the controller of the creature manifest.

    Bill, Forgotten Diver - This guy is all over the place. The first ability doesn't really seem to help you except to accelerate your mana, the second ability doesn't functionally work since you can't activate planeswalker abilities during combat, and the third ability relies on you activating the second ability first or just outright playing an islandwalk deck.

    I don't know the precise wording for the first ability - someone else may know better. The second ability would probably be best worded as "Creatures you control gain islandwalk until end of turn." The ultimate is probably better off worded as "You get an emblem with "Basic lands your opponents control are islands in addition to their other types."" to prevent them from being completely locked out of the game if they don't play blue.

    Orc of the Savannah - This is really just a 5/5 for two that's really, really splashable. Don't know what else to add.

    thank you for the critique. I'll take your words into consideration
  • Hi all, here's what I've been working on lately. Most of these build late at night, so minimal views if any. Just wondering if any are worth your faves...

    I haven't received feedback on this card, I liked the artwork so I created this on the fly. I really want it to stay a common, believe it or not, but it feels powerful for a common. Anyone have suggestions?

    @sorinjace
    Ascertain Deformity should probably be an uncommon. I can see why you want it to be a common, but it feels too wild of an effect as a reverse-Bob sometimes to be a common. I also think you can probably drop it to {2}{b}{b} instead of {3}{b}{b}.

    Edit : For those who don't know, Dark Confidant is sometimes referred to as Bob.
  • @sorinjace, don't forget to capitalize 'sacrifice,' nor italicize the speaker. I agree with @Damnation, Ascertain Deformity should be an uncommon for being a smidgen outside (but not completely) Black's central color pie.

    Thoughts y'all?
