Graveyard Horde: Completely fair on the 3/5. Looking back I do think the card is a little weak. I could have certainly pushed it a bit.
Dwarven Collecter: I agree on the power level a lot. I wanted to do a simple design, but that can certainly push a card.
Twisting Timewood: While a little harsh on the art, I see where you're coming from. And I've actually heard the card is pretty bad, but that was more from the take of someone playing commander, and I appreciate how you evaluate cards based on them in limited.
If you don't mind, I have a few more I would like you to review.
I've been considered offering some cards I've made, and I've decided why not.
These cards are for a set I'm currently working on called Nerotomea, which is an ocean themed library-matters set. I'm not fully done with all of the cards mechanically, which is why most of them don't have any flavor text yet.
Notes on the mechanics:
- Harbor is a zone that acts as a secondary face up library as long as one or more cards are in it (So no laboratory maniac insta-win). Whenever one or more cards are in it, you can interact with it instead of your main library.
- Sink doesn't care where cards leaving the library go, so even moving cards from your main library to your harbor counts. Cards leaving your harbor also counts as well.
- When you activate a torrent ability, you can only put that card on the bottom of your harbor if there's already a card in your harbor.
If you have any questions on how the mechanics work, feel free to DM me.
@hileandr (back on my main account, lol) I watched through the videos and I should specify some things. You can refer to me as TGBC as that is the acronym of my main account or you can call me Lennier.
1) I tend to focus on the story aspect of the cards as I have been writing stories for my sets (all the way back to Rigo which was the first set I made). 2) I've also experimented with odd card effects that MTG hasn't touched at all to see how they would work, like Corona as she is meant to be a commander that can reverse commander damage 3) Rage Mana is energy on steroids and is the only mechanic in the Earth and Battle For Freedom sets. You were actually quite accurate with the story of Earth, it returning to planarhood and all. I also added one more card (a flip card that required 3 cards in total) as well as some emblems as they have become quite wordy.
@TGBCGakurenZelthorn Thanks for watching and for the reply! I know it's hard to watch someone else critique your cards sometimes, so thank you for taking it in stride.
1) I tend to focus on the story aspect of the cards as I have been writing stories for my sets (all the way back to Rigo which was the first set I made).
That's great, I thought some of your flavor text was very well done. I'd love to see it show up on more of the cards to help tell the story of the set.
2) I've also experimented with odd card effects that MTG hasn't touched at all to see how they would work, like Corona as she is meant to be a commander that can reverse commander damage
I think that's awesome. I love seeing people try new things. My main point with Corona was that there was too much of it. You could take all the abilities from Corona and make three different cards out of it and they would each be cool, unique cards. If there were simply a card that said "When ~ enters the battlefield, you gain X life. Remove X points of commander damage" I think it would be a more effective way of showcasing a unique ability life that.
3) Rage Mana is energy on steroids and is the only mechanic in the Earth and Battle For Freedom sets. You were actually quite accurate with the story of Earth, it returning to planarhood and all. Okay, I'll keep that in mind in future reviews. What does the Rage supertype do on cards?
As for the story, I was intrigued by it! I'd love to hear more about it through the cards.
@hileandr It denotes whether or not it creates or uses Rage mana. If you would like me to give more of the story side to the cards I can definetly do that as it'll help explain cards and effects better.

(copied from my post from my main account) I have no problem with criticism at all. Plus I'm gonna direct message you some more story info for each card I linked for you to look at so you can get a better understanding of what is going on with them.
@hileandr Hi would you mind reviewing these? I'm a Johnny player so I like designing build arounds or cards that are self contained. These are my favorite ones and that I think are most elegantly designed for theme and character.
Ha, I just saw your video on Miku about anime cards, uh.. sorry but here is more, well please judge these for the design, they'll still work if I had used fantasy art but I'm a weeb.
@BT9154 I made a cycle of Hololive Vtuber cards for my Battle For Freedom set, but since none of the english v-tubers fit green I threw Korone in to fill the slot, lol
The name of the set is a mix of two greek words, Nero, means "water", and Tomea means "domain". So Nerotomea basically means "Water Domain" in greek.
I have been considering changing the name of harbor to hoard so it's more generic to te set, but I think I'm gonna keep it as a playtest name for now (A good amount of cards have the word "harbor" at least once on them). Also, yes, you can draw from your harbor instead of your main library.
In regards to putting more reminder/rule text on cards, I may make some token similar to the day/night token from Midnight Hunt. That way, cards don't feel like walls of rule/reminder text (although I might add that "and/or harbor" part to sink cards).
I think the reason I didn't want to make a swimming mechanic was because I was already doing a lot by making a library-matters set. At some point in time I believe I wasn't going to have any creatures with flying at all, so I didn't really consider a swimming mechanic, but I eventually decided against "no creatures with flying", and never really reconsidered a swimming mechanic.
Flavor. Ohhhhh flavor. When I'm designing singular cards, I think that I can (usually) get the flavor right. I think designing ten or more cards at a time makes the flavor of some of these cards absolutely horrendous. Alongside adding flavor text, I'm definitely gonna be fixing art and name choices too once I finish the set mechanically. Although for Syza, the flavor intended is that as you go deeper and deeper, they start to glow, revealing other creatures hidden in the dark waters.
There's probably something else I wanted to mention, but I've forgot for the time being.

Don't! Harbor is great, it's very flavorful. My main issue was that the cards that care or interact with the harbor didn't seem to match the flavor.
In regards to putting more reminder/rule text on cards, I may make some token similar to the day/night token from Midnight Hunt. That way, cards don't feel like walls of rule/reminder text (although I might add that "and/or harbor" part to sink cards).
That would help. I think if it were my set, I would make the harbor rules more explicit and less open-ended. For example, your description of harbor is "Whenever one or more cards are in it, you can interact with it instead of your main library." This leaves a lot of room for confusion. I'd prefer something like: "Your harbor is a new face-up zone. As long as one or more cards are in it, you may draw from your harbor instead of your library." That way the harbor itself is very simple, but the complexity can come from the cards themselves that interact with it, like Haul, or adding "and/or harbor" to Sink.
Just to be clear: Swimming isn't really an interesting mechanic, as it's just a different flying. My main point was that whenever I saw cards in the ocean it felt like they should have some sort of combat mechanic having to do with being underwater. You certainly don't have to do this, it's just something my brain does when I look at all the fish.
Flavor. Ohhhhh flavor. When I'm designing singular cards, I think that I can (usually) get the flavor right. I think designing ten or more cards at a time makes the flavor of some of these cards absolutely horrendous. I really like the idea of your set, and the mechanic names you've chosen fit very well. The idea of your set excites me both as a player and a designer. Just make sure your cards match in flavor! For example, Constricting Gloomfin could become "Eager Dockhand." He has vigilance because he's eager to do some dock work, so he's always ready. And a dockhand hauls cargo from the ships to the harbor.
I think one issue that may arise from having cards related to harbor match the flavor will be that the intended story for the set is that humans/humanoid races living on the surface are struggling to survive on the only island that is inhabitable, and that meant I had to limit the number of human(oid) pirates I had (I already changed a fair number of humans into merfolk because the set was already feeling like a generic pirate set rather than an ocean set).
Oh I did remember something I forgot! Apologies on the names that are hard to pronounce, half of the time I just press random keys on my keyboard until I find something I like.
I'm a bit too busy to share some more cards now, but I'll definitely share more of my set in the near future.
Jest of the Fest - Thank you so much for the 5/5! It's currently my most favored by the community card, and it was really awesome to hear that it got a perfect score! I gave it the artifact typing as all foods must be artifacts, at least to my knowledge.
Dolmir, Ally in War - 4/5 seems very reasonable, sorry about the period, at the time of making I wasn't too familiar with things like capitalization and punctuation on abilities.
I'll be working on some fun Limited commons and uncommons next, seeing as you would probably have a better time reviewing those! Thanks again!
@hileandr I'm intriqued! I made a batch of cards based on the Borderlands game franchise, might as well go with these.
Some notes ahead of time just for context: Borderlands is a wacky sci-fi action game with guns, cars and explosions (in space). "Sirens" are women with magical powers. Handsome Jack is the main villain in Borderlands 2.
Thanks for taking the time to reviewing my cards! Sorry for the anime images but bruh it's actually hard to find art of specific anime characters that are tasteful, fit the flavour and actually have stuff in the background. You'd be surprised of the art that would have fit the bill but only to not work at the cropping stage, art is actually most time consuming part to be honest.
Ina - It was my first card designed here so there were some grammar mistakes, wrong frame, no reminder text, I would fix them but I'm not a paying member. Yes I agree, I should have made it so it exiles that instant or sorcery and make it so you can only cast it that turn, though it might not all fit in the text box on top of reminder text.
Iofifteen - I'm neutral of the protection as it ties in with the theme of artist, I think ward came out not too long before I designed this so it wasn't in my radar at the time, ward 1 for each colour would have been something I considered if I wanted to power it down. As a note you don't need another 5 colour creature to bond with to get all 5 protection, just a BRG and you got it all.
Hakos - I remember when I was designing this it did get passed over to another player if you get a 1 but I think as I was designing the other abilities I kept running out of room and I just decided more chaos was the way to go. I don't think it would get too crazy it's only a 2/2 so most board wipes gets all of them and reset the cumulative upkeep don't most commander decks always run some kinda of board wipe? Try rolling a few dice on a generator it can be amusing.
Risu - Again I'm not sure how out of hand this can potentially get, 1/1 can be destroyed very easy and it resets the cumulative upkeep. I do agree logistics wise it can be a bit cluttered with all the time tokens but I think separate piles should work. If you have too many forest in hands they might be useful for discarding lands or something later, I don't know. Probably bump it to {2}{g} since the cheapest landfall that generates 1/1s cost that.
Pekora - Thanks for liking it, surprised you didn't mention how much treasure you can generate for yourself everytime you win the flip since it untaps and then you can just tap it to make treasure for everyone.
IRyS - Yeah not gonna lie, her flavour and mechanic isn't the best match. As a vtuber she is a half devil and angel hence white/black and supposed to be the embodiment of Hope. The untap is the "inspired" mechanic and the first one was creature being filled with hope thus getting stronger. The sacrifice choice yeah, I threw that in there because she's black not much actual lore is tied into that. I do like your idea of a judge passing judgment on a tapped (kneeing) creature.
Korone - True, I could have made it just deal damage but I think for flavour it should be fight, the actual person behind the character boxes as a hobby. The indestructible can be a trick to get two for ones (punch a creature and counter a removal) if you play an instant fight spell, I wanted it to be a fight deck build around. I do think it's pretty straight forward, each turn it punches something. On activation it should removal all counters, since you can get a ton pretty quickly, I think it could be a 2/2 but would that justify the 4CMC?
Gura - True, I didn't consider the logistics of the counters on all islands the idea was "blood in the water". Probably just getting blood counters on yourself or each island in play would be almost identical but you do lose the flavour of "Blood in the water" and there are fringe differences if there is land destruction and such going on.
Moona - This was my first wubrg phyrexian, so I think I went over the top haha. I don't play commander nor was I around during mirrordin besieged so I don't have a gauge of Phyrexian mana, I just knew people were making them without considering casting it for free so I added the clause that it is not a creature if you paid life for it. In your scenario where you put her in turn one and then each turn you remove counters seems like a heavy commitment over leaving your board empty for 4 turns and 10 life, is that worth a 5/5 flying hexproof and card selection?
Thanks for your reviews, glad most were 3/5, had I found fantasy art most would be 4/5, I'll take that.
