  • Well, it didn't break my computer but it lagged out whenever I opened the tab, so I just deleted the tab.
  • How is it around here? Making any cool cards?

I have a question for all of you: What is your take on the new sets coming in 2023? Which is the set you're excited most and which you're excited least? (If you don't know which sets are coming, here is a short video that shows all: https://youtube.com/shorts/NX1XZDjWvCQ?si=8OdygciUKfof3gwq)

For me, it's definitely the Aetherdrift set, because I'm a totally vehicle lover but the other standard sets seem also very nice. But I have to say that I'm not interested in the Final Fantasy set, because I just don't like the theme of it and it's just nothing for me.
  • And if you want you also can say what you think about the Magic Foundations set. I really like that it gives new people a easier chance getting into MTG and that some cards gonna be (at least) until 2029 Standard legal

At November 8th im at a Foundation Prerelease Event.
What i heard so far sounds good, especially that Foundations is standard-legal until 2029. So basically, you can collect a Foundations set and then based on that, when a new standard set is released you need only some cards to create a deck that works.
For new players this is nice.

And since Llanowar Elves and Giant Growth is in that set, i really hope that other 1 mana staples are in it too. It would be so nice if Lightning Bolt, Dark Ritual, Swords to Plowshares, Brainstorm and such would be standard legal ^^

    btw found a funny combo:
And then you deal 1 damage to the enemy ...

  • Here's a random topic of discussion that amuses me... will we ever see an un-set that's intended to be an outreach format... for example... like a stand-alone magic card game that could be sold in stores as a party game?
  • Oooooo...that's actually a really good idea, since Magic: the Gathering can be a massive investment to people, so having it as like a board or card game would be good for people who want to get into it but don't think they're willing to spend 500 bucks on one deck.

I imagine having something like that with an un-set (even without the decreasing likelihood of future un-sets) would be problematic, for at least two reasons.  One, unsets are most entertaining when they are making jokes for the MTG community.  The more a joke feels like an inside joke, the better it hits.  The generic humor cards don't feel nearly as special as Chaos Confetti, Crow Storm, Extremely Slow Zombie, or Old Fogey.  The other reason is that it's really hard to make un-sets that reduce the complexity.  Though they aren't ever serious, they also aren't ever simple.  I don't know if that would be helpful for bringing in new players, but, like you, I do agree that it could be an absolute blast to play, but maybe it should be designed for people that already know Magic, rather than as a outreach game.  I'd play that if they made one.

That being said, what are everyone's favorite tools to introduce a new player to the game?  I love playing a round of Game Night, but I can rarely find enough people to play.  It's still one of my absolute favorites.
  • hey @stuffnsuch what do you mean by "a new player"?

Hey guys. Just thought I would put this in random discussions. I’m going inactive because life sucks and I can’t seem to be entertained by cardsmith anymore. I’m making my account inactive right after this. If you want to know, it’s because I’m really fucking depressed and suicidal. I won’t bore you all with all the stupid shit I’m going through. So I hope you guys have a good life and that you’re all happy. I might become active in a couple months or years, but don’t expect me back. Goodbye, fellow cardsmiths. May all your dreams come true.
  • Do you guys know what unsanctioned is

Amazoncom Magic The Gathering Unsanctioned Card Game for 2 Players 160 Cards Toys Games

It sounds like exactly what you were describing
  • @TheDarkKnight1234567
You know, I remember Unsanctioned existing, but there didn't seem to be any attention directed to it from any source where I get my MTG information.  It seemed like a random product that no one cared about and I, therefor, assumed it brought nothing meaningful to the game.  Looking at things, it seems you're absolutely right.  This looks amazing.  I wonder how much they cost?  Wow, less than $40.  I might get me one for Christmas.

@jpastor New to Magic.  Someone that hasn't played before, or at least doesn't yet know how to play the game without someone walking them through it.
