Gears of the Mechanix - Contest (10$ Prize!)

It's been 4 years since we had a proper Mechanix challenge on the forums. They were among my favorite contests to participate in: To play with the innovative and creative custom mechanics which other Cardsmiths have made, and then show off your own take with the mechanic(s) you picked. Long I waited for a new Mechanix challenge to pop up someday to get my gears of creativity rolling again, but that didn't happen... until now!

Welcome to Gears of the Mechanix!

In this contest, each participant must create a card involving (at least) one of the 12 hand-picked mechanics of the Tome of TheMechanix (see the examples below!)

Criteria
Presentation, art selection, templating, spelling, balance, creativity and flavor.

Rules:
1. Each entry must use one (or multiple) of the featured mechanics.
2. Post a link to your card with your entry (if it's made on Mtgcardsmith).
3. Each Cardsmith is allowed to submit up to 12 entries.
4. Cards can be edited and switched out before the due date.
5. Only new cards allowed.
6. No joke cards, but humor can be involved.
7. Credit the artist of the artwork you use or the AI art generator used to create it.

Prizes:
1st Place
- 3 favorites of your choice.
- One of the following of your choice:
⦁ 1 month of Cardsmith Premium Subscription (10$ value).
⦁ 1 month of Discord Nitro (nonbasic, 10$ value).
⦁ 10$ Gift Card on Steam.
2nd Place
- 2 favorites of your choice.
3rd Place
- 1 favorite of your choice.

Each acceptable entry will be favorited by my new account, CuriousGhost. The top three winning entries will also get a TROPHY and added to the HALL OF FAME!

The contest will be closed for judging in two weeks, on 6th of May, 23:59 EEST. The judging will take a few days at least.

Let the gears of the Mechanix rotate once more!

  • Here are FAQs from the past #MechanixChallenges

    Q) Can we change or remove the name of a mechanic?
    A) Yes (just make a note please)

    Q) Can we make minor changes to the mechanics?
    A) Yes

    Q) Can we use two or more different mechanics on a card?
    A) Yes.

    Q) Is double-sided card allowed?
    A) Yes

    Q) Can we use the mechanic without its reminder text?
    A) Yes
  • Wow look at those names!
  • I have a question @TenebrisNemo. Can we use card creation programs other than mtgcardsmith?
  • @kaoz42 - You sure can!
  • I know that only one card counts as a valid entry but can we still make other cards with these mechanics and post them here @TenebrisNemo?

  • Heres my submission
  • Do we have to put an explanation of the mechanic?
  • Just wondering because whenever I put in the explanation the formatting breaks
  • @Lurisauri - Each participant is allowed to submit up to 12 entries, and they'll all be counted as valid.

@Mellow_MC - You don't have to put the mechanic's reminder text on your card. Also, remember to post a link to your card with your entry!

To me Kederekt Creeper is an inspired card, so what better way to make it even more of a lose-lose situation than to add Hunt to it?  Also, the art looks like a combination of the art from Kederekt Creeper and Kederekt Parasite.
  • @TenebrisNemo Just one more question: What exactly is the “templating” criteria supposed to be?
  • @Kaoz42 - Most likely templating is card construction.... mana order, rarity (does the symbol match what you said it is), sentence structure, order of mechanics... that sort of thing
