Here’s my common slot submission:
Here's my entry for the Rare slot
Winners
Tier I - Common
✅ Verdict: Ichthys of Limbo is better designed.
It's cleaner, better aligned with hybrid color identity, and uses familiar mechanics (scry, mill) in a way that works well at common.
The triggered ETB is flavorful and functional without over-complicating board states.
Chiroptera is creative, but a bit messy—pushing the color pie and common-rarity complexity boundaries in ways that would concern a real set designer.
Tier II - Uncommon
🏆 Verdict: Erelim of Indifference is the best designed.
It’s the most elegant, printable, and mechanically sound at uncommon. The afterlife mechanic ties in beautifully with the Spirit Avatar theme, and the card could slot right into a modern Orzhov draft environment. It’s resonant, memorable, and rewarding to play.
🔹 Final Rankings:
Erelim of Indifference – Simple, strong, and printable.
Oracle of Deceit – Creative and flavorful, but with mechanical dissonance.
Saint of Catharsis – Powerfully flavorful but too punishing and complex for an uncommon.
Tier III - Mythic
✅ Verdict: Emperium of Dawn is better designed.
It more consistently feels mythic—both in body and in effect. Its scalable, game-altering ability makes it terrifying and flashy. While its effect is dangerous (borderline oppressive in limited), its elegant synergy and potential for back-and-forth combat outcomes make it satisfying to build around and interact with.
🔹 Final Rankings:
Emperium of Dawn – Bold, expressive, and impactful.
Medicant of Chaos – While the challenge was to create a mythic, I tried to judge this as a mythic. As it turns out, it was more like a rare (which is what you intended). Intriguing and deep, but requires setup and may underperform without support.
