Using the keyword " lessen". It was somewhere in the list, idk lol.
I liked the idea of this one since I actually have an entire archetype built around -1-1 counters. Being able to create a card centered around the main characters of the story that also helps counter the main win con of one of the baddies from the other deck works well thematically. Only making this one card since it's like 4am here and wanted to throw my hat in the ring prior to the event ending haha. Hope you all enjoy~

On my way to 900 cards!

@code936 I think you forgot to use a mechanic from the list. Lessen isn't in the list. If you wanted to do something with -1/-1 counters or counters in general maybe you meant Glow, Passage or Painborn, but they're all different from your mechanic.
  • @code936 - Unfortunately what @Lurisauri said is true: Each entry must use one of the 12 mechanics presented in the first comment of this contest - https://forums.mtgcardsmith.com/index.php?p=/discussion/comment/239036/#Comment_239036

While Lessen is indeed a mechanic in the Tome, it's not featured in this contest, so I cannot accept your entry, though I appreciate the effort!
  • The contest is still open so this will be my last card:

A take from the other side of a widowmaker.  I adjusted the reminder text to have the milled Lurk card not hit the graveyard first before being exiled, like how Madness currently works.  This was originally because creating a token copy of Widowclaimer was a cast trigger and not having it ever touch the graveyard in the first place made the counting for Delirium much clearer.

    Lastest-minute submission here!
I realise I'm not the only one who decided to make a Song Bird (Great idea!) but I've been sitting on this idea for the last week but only just got around to making it.

    Aria of Eternal Resplendence

The idea with this one is to make use of Everlasting in a way that'd make the alternate cost larger rather than smaller in an interesting way, and so I thought the Song enchantment type fit perfectly. By paying the Everlasting cost, the song now flickers itself, and so it plays eternal!

  • Judging Results!

Thank you for joining Gears of the Mechanix! Even though two of the listed mechanics weren't used, I was still surprised by the amount of creative entries posted here! And, as a consequence, the judging process was not an easy one! But after putting each of the 18 entries through a careful examination, I have decided the top three winners! Though before we get to them, I'd like to mention certain entries that came close to the top!

    Honorable mentions (in alphabetical order)

    The Top Three

    ! 3rd Place !

    Windswept Acolyte by @jpastor!

Quite lovely, offering both combat- and sacrificial value to bring something else back to life. Well done!

    - You get 1 favorite from me to a card of your choice -

    !! 2nd Place !!

    Inherited Distinction by @TheCubicalGuy!!

I could see this played in EDH tribal decks. Flavor is excellent, and the flux cost also seems well-balanced!

    - You get 2 favorites from me to cards of your choice -

    !!! 1st Place !!!

    Vibrant Serenade by @Jadefire!!!

Great idea with Song Bird subtypes! Bypasses the mechanic's weakness by immediately bringing (at least a little) value to the battlefield on the turn it's cast. Fantastic design!

    - You get 3 favorites from me to cards of your choice -
