Wizards of the Coast "stole" my card design and turned it into a Lurghoyf.
But thats fine for me, since the Cosmogoyf is quite funny too, especially if you play a deck with "adventure" and "warp" mechanics, so you can exile a lot of cards to play them later.
  • Those Bastiches! First Mystery Box and now this! Chaos I tell you... CHaoS!

  • Wtf they're everywhere now
  • @jpastor So, if I ask for a Mystery Box now, do you need my shipping address?
  • @LvB I'm changing all my Dimir Thoracle combo decks to Golgari and running Cosmogoyf as the new wincon. ;)
  • @StuffnSuch // Mystery Boxes are always free… the only cost is your sanity. Shipping is instantaneous, but there’s no guarantee on what plane it’ll arrive from. 🤣
(Side note: I think I owe royalties to literally everyone in this thread at this point…)

@LvB // Animate Exile into Cosmogoyf?? That’s too close for comfort. At this rate, Wizards might as well hire the whole forum and just call it “MTG: Cardsmith Edition.” I’d buy that set instantly.

@Corwinnn // CHAOS indeed. At this rate, Challenge #5 might just be “design the next thing Wizards is going to steal from us.”

⚡ Challenge #4 – “The Mystery Box Lives”
Design a card that could only ever come out of a “Mystery Box.”

    • It can be broken.

    • It can be hilarious.

    • It can be so flavorful it hurts.

    • Or it can just be something nobody asked for but everyone secretly wanted.

We’re deep into memory lane, WotC conspiracies, and now interdimensional shipping scams… feels like this thread is alive and well to me. 🔥

Yeah, did you hear that wizards? Hire me and i'll make the snailiest Snail Edition that ever existed ;) And maybe it will have some ghost pirates in it as well !
  • I really don't want to search for art cuz most of them are absolute trash, and I can't access mtgcs so I can't even upload my own art so here I have a card for you, @jpastor

I made it for a deck that I currently run in my local mtg shop cuz ppl help me try my decks and it is really balanced (almost always wins against precons/sightly buffed precons but hasn't a consistent win rate against more complex and expensive decks)

    Faine, angelical captain {3}{w}
    Legendary Creature - Angel Soldier
    Flying, Vigilance
Faine ETBs with a honor counter on it.
Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, put a honor counter on it.
Creatures with honor counters get +1/+1
Whenever a creature with honor counters is target of a spell or ability you don't control, draw a card and remove all honor counters from that creature.
    2/3
  • @LvB // Snail Edition with ghost pirates?? Okay, now I need this set. Wizards, are you hearing this? This is exactly why the forums exist // peak creativity with a healthy dose of chaos.

@smax765 // dude, Faine, Angelical Captain is slick. I love how the honor counters feel like a natural extension of vigilance/leadership flavor. And the draw + reset clause? That’s such a clean way to prevent the ability from snowballing while still rewarding smart plays. Honestly, this feels like the kind of uncommon/rare legend you’d see anchoring a draft archetype. Balanced, flavorful, and a sweet story hook.

And speaking of story hooks… don’t forget Challenge #4 – “The Mystery Box Lives.”
Make something that feels like it popped out of a chaotic box packed by a planeswalking trickster. It can be absurd, broken, or just way too flavorful.

Bonus points if it’s a snail. Or a ghost pirate. Or both.

This thread keeps getting better // thanks for keeping it alive with both laughs and legit designs.

  • @jpastor as always, I like messing up with what people tell to make the most astonishing version possible.

I just made a new account on mtgcs so I could at least do cards...

    Here's my new card:

  • soo yeah here's my new account yesterday I had to shut down my pc so I now have officially no access to it.

  • @smax765 / @smaxx // respect That’s some serious commitment, making a whole new account just so you could keep designing. That’s the real cardsmith energy.

And that card? Absolute fire. Love how you twisted it into something fresh while still holding onto the spirit of your earlier designs. Exactly the kind of “messing up the prompt” that keeps this fun.

Also, I feel like you’ve basically just pulled off a planeswalker ultimate:
“Exile your old account. Return it to the battlefield transformed.” 🤣

Reminder: Challenge #4 – “The Mystery Box Lives” is still running.
Anyone who hasn’t jumped in yet // now’s the time. Snails, ghost pirates, chaotic treasures, or just something totally unhinged. Drop it in.

This thread refuses to die, and I’m here for it. 🔥

  • Does anyone else have an error message when logging in to the website? But though i get an error message, im still logged in. Its weird.
  • I get error messages and weird stuff happening all the time So much seems broken
  • yea me 2 so I made a new acc
  • So, i mentioned in the MTG Cardsmith Discord that the new website is slow and that i get a lot of error messages and that editor doesnt work right.
The reaction was: My posting/message was deleted and i got a 6 Day Timeout in the MTG Cardsmith Discord.

Thats the worst way of handling such a thing. Its the classic "Shoot the Messenger" reaction, that solves absolutely nothing, but makes people angry and think "why should i be on a website that doesnt care about its users?".
A good reaction wouldve been: "Thank you for telling us. Heres how you can reach the support, please describe the website problems and when they happen etc. so we can fix it and improve the site."

But just deleting what unhappy users write and temporarily banning them is the worst thing a website owner can do.

Right now im thinking about deleting my account here and moving to another MTG card creation website. Im sure theres other sites out there that actually care about their users.
  • @LvB // that’s rough, and I don’t blame you one bit for being frustrated. Getting silenced instead of supported is the exact opposite of what keeps communities alive. You’re right: people should be listened to, not punished, especially when they’re trying to help improve things.

@Corwinnn @smaxx // I’m with you too. The weird bugs and login chaos are definitely real.

But here’s the thing... this thread is ours. No bans, no deletions, no gatekeeping. Just us making cards, sharing ideas, venting when needed, and keeping a little pocket of creativity alive.

If anyone decides to step away from MTGCS, I get it // but I’ll say this... it’s not the site that keeps me coming back, it’s the people here. Threads like this are proof of that.

On that note: Challenge #4 – “The Mystery Box Lives” is still open (and fitting, since the site itself feels like a bugged mystery box right now 🤣
Design something that feels like it shouldn’t exist... but somehow does // just like us still keeping this place going.

Whatever happens with the main site or Discord, I’m here. And I know I’m not the only one.
